Great review Andrew. I picked this up on DVD not long ago because it was many of the flicks I remember seeing as a kid. I like it a lot better now (it originally disappointed me because the monster sees little screen time) and I'm glad you did as well. Gotta love that theme song at the end too. "The Graveyard Shift."

Oh, before I go off to do some stuff, here's a little factoid: the crazy foreman, Warwick, is played by Stephen Macht, who played Del Crenshaw in "The Monster Squad" which I just reviewed. Mwahahaha, cross promotion!   

Keep up the awesome work Andrew, I like the new little touches and changes you've made around the site.

I recall seeing this flick a while ago and reading the short story.  Brad Dourif in just about any role is a sadistic delight.  I vaguely recall in high school thinking that Kelly Wolf (Jane) was attractive in her role.  Not exactly sure what i was thinking back then.  Good review.

I remember going to see this one in the theater when it came out.

I wasn't overly impressed despite the presence of a monster. I caught it on HBO a time or two after that but haven't seen in it in at least 12 or 13 years. I suspect my appreciation for the film has grown after cultivating a love for bad movies. I need to track this one down.

It's pretty damned cheap Tim. When you go on your next DVD binge, pick "Graveyard Shift" up. By the by, watched "Island Claws" last night. I managed to stay awake through the whole thing and I giggled almost uncontrallably at the "Queen Crab" at the end of the film. LOOK OUT FOR ITS FOAM CLAWS!!!!

This is a very under-rated movie, I enjoyed it. I'll buy the dvd sometime soon, even though it deserves a Special Edition.  

I love end theme song as well.

I definately remember loving this movie when I was in Elementary school/Junior High and watching it at a friends house. Even then I loved bad and bloody horror movies.

I remember seeing the film a while back.  I liked how it portrayed working in a factory.  Having worked in a factory myself it brought back memories(crazy a**hole boss, and etc).  On the other hand, I didn't like how big the factory was.  They find a hidden basement and then they find hidden catacombs after that.   Keep searching and maybe there is a passage to china somewhere in the factory.

Man, I saw this piece of crap back when it was in theaters for like 2 weeks.

What waste of money, it's not even good on a so-bad-its-good level like Maximum Overdrive was.

I agree. Night Flier was surprisingly good.

Btw, they have Graveyard Shift, April fools Day and Tales from the Darkside The Movie in a DVD set for like abut 20 bucks.  Seems like a damn good deal.

  Wow, this movie is what I like to refer to as a "diamond in the rough." It is rare and semi-original in concept but lacks the need to be seen more than once, unless you just get bored and want to see a suspenseful scary movie...oh yeah the monster turns out to be a great player of hide and seek even though it is GIGANTIC! How this is possible I may never know...

I agree this is sort of a diamond in the rough.  Good characters and atmosphere.  Kept me interested.
