"Alex finds himself in an expressionist dream with some heavy THE SEVENTH SEAL imagery going on. He's served wine by a ghostly man in a black robe. When he wakes up he's...sticky. His body is covered with open sores and clear slime. He quickly degenerates into a slime-puking, scabby, warty pus-bucket of a man, specifically a slime-puking, scabby, warty pus-bucket of a man with a taste for murder! He beats a homeless guy to death with a lead pipe!"

This must be the worst breakup ever portrayed on film. 

Pouring your soul out to your girlfriend when she dumps you is hard.  It is as if she is cutting off your head and dismembering your soul.  However, really devastating breakups feel like your brain is leaving your ruined body and crawling across the kitchen floor, beseeching her for compassion.  In Alex's case things go a step farther than that.  As his battered psyche attempts to escape, his ex-girlfriend chops it apart with a meat cleaver.
