Scott & Chris K. the other day were discussing "Bloodthirsty Butchers" and talking about Andy Milligan who directed it.   He is known next to Ed Wod Jr. as one of the worst directors of the 20th century.
Either you totally love his work....or despise it.
Chris K. seemed to know a bit more about him than most people do.

For those of you who would like to know even more, I found a 2 part article someone wrote about him & his films.  Each includes photos and are very well written.

They provide very detailed background on Milligan.  Each of his films are also provided with a synopsis and breakdown of certain scenes & the movie as a whole.  Again, still shots from each film are shown.

I highly recommend reading is quite fascinating!
I knew absolutely zilch about Milligan except for a few of the titles of films he's directed.  After reading these, I know a heck of alot more.

Check them out....

I read most of the website on Andy Milligan. This might be a case of the directors story being more interesting than his films. The film dialogue of Milligan can not be compared to Ed Wood's fantastic wackiness. Milligan makes Ed Wood look like a genius in my opinion. Though the Andy Milligan website is good and informative especially about his relationship with his producer.

The music in the two movies BLOODTHIRSTY BUTCHERS and THE RATS ARE COMING ! THE WEREWOLVES ARE HERE ! are ridiculous and the acting was infantile at times. I'm not saying this to be mean. I'm saying that in fact they speak in childrens voices many times. Now this isn't a bad thing for a bad movie fan, but the dialogue on top of the voices make this beyond dumb.

I'm going to give THE BODY BENEATH a chance one day if I can find it. Also the copies of BLOODTHIRSTY BUTCHERS and THE RATS ARE COMING ! THE WEREWOLVES ARE HERE ! that I have are on the Vid Kart label and may not do the films justice as ChrisK said, but again I can't see how anything can turn these films around. Surely viewing the copies I have a painful viewing..........Ouch.

The "Andy Milligan Ghastly Stew" articles are interesting, but they leave so much other items out. It leaves out some of Milligan's other moments: his strange hatred of dominent women, coping with his own homosexuality, his horrifying family lifestyle, etc. In other words, the article delivers very little. And the article comes across as a bit condisending towards it's subject.

If you want to know more about Andy Milligan, get a hold of his bio "The Ghastly One: The Sex-Gore Netherworld of Filmmaker Andy Milligan" written by Jimmy McDonough. It tells you everything about Milligan, his films and how he made them, 42nd Street grindhouse theatres, and Milligan's tragic suffering of AIDS (which Jimmy himself tried to help Milligan as best as he could before his death).
