Porn moguls Larry Flynt and Joe Francis are appealing to the U.S. Congress to grant the adult entertainment industry a $5 billion (GBP3.3 billion) bail out - because it is suffering from the global economic meltdown just as much as others.

Hustler magazine entrepreneur Flynt claims adult DVD sales have plummeted in the last 12 months, with figures down 22 per cent from 2007.

He says, "With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It's time for Congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America."

Meanwhile, Girls Gone Wild creator Francis is planning to travel to Washington D.C. to make his point heard, because he's adamant the porn industry is a key part of the U.S. economy - just like the financial and motor institutions.

He tells TMZ.com, "Congress seems willing to help shore up our nation's most important businesses; we feel we deserve the same consideration."

It's another brilliant promotional idea from Flynt.  He'll think up some crazy idea, anything, to keep his name in the papers.  All that free advertising for the cost of throwing a press conference.  Whatever you think of his morals, politics or the business he's in, he is a marketing genius.

Sort of like how he keeps offering celebs (and the daughters of celebs) a million dollars to pose nude in Hustler.  Recent examples I can recall, the Bush Twins, and the Olsen twins (although why he think THAT would ever work is beyond me, for the Olsen's they could probably find a million dollars lying around in the cushions of their couch at home.)

But again, anything for publicity, I guess.

Much like the "legit" movie industry, I can definitely understand the porn industry coming under hard times. Akira's right that porn and booze will always have buyers, but you can't download booze for free from any number of internet sources. Even the people who don't know where to download movies and/or porn for free more than likely have a friend, friend-of-a-friend, co-worker, or street walking bootleg peddler who can get it for them. Like the Rev said, this is definitely a publicity thing by Flynt. Unlike thousands of automotive workers, nobody cares if the porn stars and producers go out of business. Unlike cars that deteriorate and can eventually become broken down and useless, good porn can be "useful" FOREVER. :teddyr:

The majority of the acts shown on modern porn don't lead to pregnancy, if you know what I mean.

Who would want to see those two sticks nude? They're just gross.

Flynn is a marketing guru he now how to play the system and neither one of them really expect to get a bailout as they know would turn the far right on it's end. But that's what Flynn and Francis thrive on is shock value, Flynn more so than the latter. I could see why 20 years ago or even 10 you might buy a 'Hustler' but today nearly any google search will turn up a multitude of porn more explicit than Hustler ever was.

Well, one thing we don't have to worry about, is him offering the Obama girls, since they are only ten and seven, a million dollars to pose in the nude. Even he wouldn't stoop that low, I hope. Now, on the other hand, in eleven years, when the youngest turns eighteen . . .? No telling what he'll do.
