Werd!  Jean-Claude is one of the few martial arts actors with a laundry list film credits, making almost as many (if not as many) as Chuck Norris.  He was a mainstay of the genre.

And while he was predictable as all hell (sometimes yelling and telegraphing his blows before doing them) he was still a lot of fun.

I also wish him the best for a quick and speedy recovery.

Certainly hope JCVD has a full and speedy recovery. Have to admit to being a fan. His movies are fun.

His first movie was Black Eagle with Sho Kosugi, if I remember right. Either that or it was No Retreat, No Surrender.  It was also said that before Kevin Peter Hall got the role of Predtor, Van-Damme was considered, but was later nixed for being too short.

I've read somewhere that he got the call for Blood Sport and he dissed the Predator role?

That's possible. I may be mis-speaking here, but as I had heard it on a TV show, he was actually turned down for the Predator role because of his height, thatbeing the sole reason.  Again, I may have gotten it wrong though.

If that was the case however, that was his big break because it allowed him to further his budding martial arts movie career. And what a a career he had.

I've heard he actually played the Predator briefly, but the only shots of his are ones where it is chamoed.  Either way, he is way too small for the role.

Agreed. The way Predator turned out with the massive Kevin Peter Hall was much better.  And it gave Van-Damme the chance to do something better, and that he did.

One of my faves is Universal Soldier. Very interesting take on the long speculated-on  "uber-soldier" program and it had Dolph Lundgren playing a bad guy for once. Good stuff.

He's done that twice.

Oh that's right,  I forgot. I think the other role where Dolphie was the bad guy was the big Russkie Ivan Drago in Rocky 4.
