Title: Looking for help with a movie
Post by: mssjg on October 25, 2001, 08:02:23 PM
A long time ago, I saw this movie on Television and I got in in the middle so never saw the beginning, no title.  It was about a dorm, sorority house, and the girls kept getting killed one by one.  The killer makes these cat noises, and the girls are looking for it, one gets suffocated by a garment bag.  The house mother even gets it, she hids her booze in the toilet tank, and thinks she hears the cat upstairs, go to look and gets a hook in the jaw and flies up the attic door.  Finally, they think it's this girls boyfriend, (the killer evesdrops on phone calls) so they finally reach the police, he gets shot, everyone in the house is now dead, the one girl left alive is sedated, and she is in bed with one guard posted on the porch of the house.  Then, you hear the guys rocking chair in the attic, and the guards in the car are shown with their throats slashed.  Does anyone know the name of this movie?  I believe it is from the late 70's and Shelly winters was the house mom.  It's driving me crazy, Joyce.

Black Christmas (1974), a.k.a. Silent Night, Evil Night and Stranger in the House.  Stalker stuff from the man who gave us Porky's and A Christmas Story.

Lot of people love this movie.  I'm not one of them, but I think I'm in a clear minority on it.

Yes, I love it.  Pre-Porky's Bob Clark.

I dunno.  I just watched (and reviewed) Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things, and I didn't come away feeling that pre-Porky's Bob Clark was a good thing.

Discerning Viewers Shouldn't Watch Children Play With Dead Things...

Black Christmas is one of my favorite movies. Even if you hate it you have to admit it did pretty much set down the whole slasher standards. Children shouldn't Play with dead things I love pretty much just for the atmosphere and the zombies alone. It has this certain eura to it.

"Even if you hate it you have to admit it did pretty much set down the whole slasher standards."

With respect, I shouldn't have to admit that.   I saw it when it came out and didn't have the sensation that I was watching horror movie history in the making.  I'd already seen most of the movie's gimmicks in other movies, many of them in made-for-TV movies.  The only thing I can recall as a possible novelty for a horror movie was foul mouthed coeds -- not the sort of standard setting I personaly care for.  Maybe others do, though.

But as I've said before, I accept that I'm in a clear minority here.  And perhaps someone who saw Frankenstein when it first came out would've maintained there was nothing really new there, either.

warm regards,
