Post by: Doggett on January 04, 2009, 08:12:15 PM
According to "my online computer scan", a random pop up but it looks just like windows, I have 600 trojan viruses. Have my security systems failed on me or is it a trick..
It wants me to return to system Security and download it to secure my PC

What do I do.

That popup is as fake as Micheal Jackson's nose.

It must be very fake, indeed.
I get security updates all the time, usually at the bottom of the screen. Never a pop up. It also never tells me that I have 600 and whatever viruses.
But it looks so authentic.
I'm scared :bluesad:
Somebody hold me.

That's the link...see if you gat the same as me. If everything goes to plan it should say that your computer is filled with viruses. Please don't let it just be me!!!

There are quite a few "scareware" programs that, after they infect your computer, try to convince you to buy a version that will "clean" it.  However, the cleaner version usually just ads more malware.  Install Ad Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy and see if you can't find and kill the scareware.

This is the first time that it's happened. My security system's quite good so I don't think I'll be downloading any anti-whatever software. I've been down that road before and it made everything a lot worse. I've decided just to close the box and I didn't download what it told me to. Hopefully it won't come up again.

I almost downloaded, though.

Thanks badmovies.org, you saved me!!!

If it was just a website popup, then no worry.  If you did get some scareware on your computer you will see the same box again at a later time.

Ad Aware and Spybot are pretty well known programs, and I'd recommend either without worry.

I've been using Trendmicro security products, and dealing with this junk is a thing of the past.

That doesn't even look to be "scareware" (which means a program got onto your computer).  It looks like that is just a website generated pop-up that is trying to trick you into paying for a cleaner.  In recent weeks there have been some charges filed by state authorities.  I know that the hosting company Alpha Red, well their owner, had a case pop up around the same time they decided to go into bankruptcy.  Funny timing, that.
