Title: "Thriller: A Cruel Picture" .....Holy crap.
Post by: KYGOTC on September 19, 2008, 11:11:20 AM
Heard lots of good things about this movie for a reeely long time so i rented the uncut version from Netflix.

From this movie, I now know that there need not be blood and exposed organs for something to be graphic and disturbing. Ya see, this is one of those movies that makes sex and nudity something that any heterosexual male turn and look away from. We get some close-ups of some big ol' cocks and the inside of this lady's butt hole. Not to mention at one point this dude friggin' blows his load all over the place.

Now, at this point it seems that i would just be describing a porn movie. Trust me, there is more to this flik than just anorexic nudity and finger-in-ass action. There is also alot of drug use. Particularly the needle kind. The kind that makes me squirm. LOTS of heroin use.

Now dont get me wrong! All this is welcome in to me as an exploitation movie enthusiest. I loved the movie. Some of the way it was filmed was really cool (like when she was fighting these cops and it was all in slo-mo. It was trippy.) And the set up is just really interesting. But If you go into this movie thinking its just another lovable b-movie with explosions and gore, just know that there is MUCH more to it than that.

Sounds interesting although I'm amazed Netflix carries something that grahpic.  Then again through Blockbuster I've gotten a lot of suggestive stuff.

Netflix carries both versions of Thriller (both by the same company) - the edited "Vengeance Edition" and the unedited "Limited Edition".  Don't ask me why the same company released two different versions.

However, I wasn't surprised that Netflix carried them.  After all, Netflix also carries Caligula (1979).

I saw the edited version and was actually somewhat dissapointed.  I saw another movie with christine linbergh and they go to that same bus station.  I want to go there.  and see her!

The movie was finally released on DVD in 2 versions: the version with the porn inserts and the original version as envisioned by the director.

I've seen both and while the porn-insert-version is rougher, I usually recommend the version without those shots.  BTW, that wasn't the original cast in those porn shots.

Funny, I said the same thing about CITIZEN KANE.  :teddyr:

I bought this DVD a few months ago and posted some comments about it here.  I was really surprised at the hardcore sex scenes.  They caught me completely by surprise.

I have a review scheduled for this one, probably during October.  The version I have is the uncut, yep-that's-sex version.  Like Torgo said, I think that the "They Call Her One-Eye" version, that lacks the hardcore scenes, still preserves the heart of the film.  That is the story of a young woman who is kidnapped, forcibly addicted to heroine, and turned into a prostitute for a bunch of cruel customers.  Oh, and she has an eye cut out for disobedience.  She learns to drive, fight, and shoot, and then takes her revenge.

After seeing this film, I have had nightmares about crazy one-eyed hookers with shotguns.

It seemed like the filmmakers were lacking either resources or the skill to really bring the story's wild premise to a perfect fruition.  The slow motion fight scenes were a little off in their execution.  Some parts seemed "choppy."

It is still a disturbing movie, and worth a look.  I can understand why Tarantino found it so inspiring.
