Title: Having trouble with live streaming video
Post by: LilCerberus on January 12, 2018, 10:06:59 PM
I need some help figuring out how to live stream video.
When I try to webcast on facebook, it always cuts out before I even get started, with a black screen saying "Unknown Error".

I've tied youtube, but it says I need to install some sort of encoding software & run that.

the whole things driving me crazy.

Id say it depends what you want to stream for to be honest, if your looking to just do some streaming for friends and family then Facebook lives brilliant for that (Though I've had problems with it before...usually stemming from me setting my cameras privacy settings too strictly (It may be worth double checking you've shared your camera with Facebooks app)

If your thinking of doing something with a little bit more reach in mind and your looking to cultivate an audience then Youtubes live options would be the best in my opinion. basically you have to download a piece of software that acts as your broadcasting equipment and encoder. you link your youtube account to the software and then schedule a live broadcast in youtubes settings (It sounds messy but its a lot more straightforward than you'd think) I did a 6 hour public domain horror-cast last halloween and I managed to figure out how everything worked within 45 minutes of setting it all up :)

heres a pretty handy guide on how to set up live streaming on youtubes end:
https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2474026?hl=en-GB

and if I can reccommend any type of broadcasting/encoding software I'd say Wirecast is the most accessable (Its the one I use) the free version will place a small watermark on your video but it's quite discreet...and to get a license for it is practically peanuts.

If I can be of any help do feel free to chuck me a message :)

I think I figured out part of the problem.
New Laptop, & my security settings were set too high...
Managed to run a couple of successful tests just now.
