Post by: Harry on June 22, 2004, 10:58:04 AM
House of 1000 Corpses 2: the Devils Rejects
oh yeah!
I'm a huge horror movie fan, and Rob Zombie is a fantastic writer/director for the genre. Alot of people didn't like his movie, but it's one of my favorites. Supposedly "The Devil's Rejects" is going to be a hell of alot darker "it will make the first movie look like Finding Nemo".
I also heard rumors that the Firefly family meets up with another psycho killer family...can anyone say "showdown"?
anyho...am I the only one really excited about this?

House of 1000 Corpses was unwatchable. And I haven't met anyone (aside from "Harry" just now) who said otherwise. I'm not sure how much money House of 1000 Corpses made in theater and VHS/DVD sales, but I'm certain the sequel will do much, much worse.

In fairness, there are a number of people on this board who liked the movie (Brother Ragnorak should be puttin in an appearance any minute)

In honesty, I have not seen the movie as a) I'm not much of a horror/gore fan and b) Rod Zombie's schtick bores me

I liked the movie for what it was meant to be and I'm looking forward to the second one. Not holding my breath waiting for it but when it comes out, I'll see it.

Maybe Rob Zombie has figured out how to tell a story on the screen by now....if not, it'll suck like the first one.  There were a few good parts but I wound up just reading a book during the last half hour or so because I no longer cared what was going on.

Post by: Harry on June 22, 2004, 07:51:50 PM
it's meant to be a tribute to horror movies that Zombie likes, being that he is a huge horror film guru...he accomplished what he wanted to perfectly, in it's own sense it is a perfect peice of art...many people don't get that...but many people don't get van gogh.
I really enjoy the genre, so I get all of the "inside jokes" so to speak.

>he accomplished what he wanted to perfectly, in it's own sense it is a perfect
>peice of art

As I originally wrote after watching the first movie; The term "trainwreck of a movie" never seemed so appropriate as it did for this movie...

I'm not much into slashers, so probably I wasn't getting all the "obvious" homages the film had, but I found it quite imaginative and well directed. I'll probably watch number two when it hits the theatres.

Title: Re: House of 1000 Corpses 2: the Devils Rejects
Post by: Harry on June 23, 2004, 12:32:17 PM
Neville, if you enjoyed it, you should go back and watch some of the movies he based it on, you would enjoy them too.  House of 1000 corpses got me really into horror flicks, I had seen a few before, but after I read about what zombie liked, I started watching those movies.
Obviously The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and more than the first one, you would notice the TCM2 is alot like house of 1000 corpses.  Also check out Wes Craven's "The Last House on the Left" which is really the first of the slasher sex crime movies...it's not incredibly scary, but you can see where zombie pulled from it.
there is supposed to be alot of humor in these movies...they should give you a few cheap scares, the ones you're almost ashamed of, but you should also laugh at how ridiculous the situations are (i.e. "what the hell is she doing, any sensible person would run the other direction")
I guess you maybe just have to be a little odd to appriciate and enjoy slasher flicks.

Title: Re: House of 1000 Corpses 2: the Devils Rejects
Post by: Neville on June 24, 2004, 12:35:41 PM
Oh, I'm not completely ignorant about slashers. Seen the first TCM and some other Tobe Hooper, but it is just that many things frm the movie looked a bit tongue-in-cheek, you know, as if Zombie was saying "Know were I took this from?", and often I couldn't imagine the source. I may watch TCM II (It's been on my list for years), but Las house on the left is completely out of the question. I tried to watch it years ago and had to stop. F*cking disgusting load of crap if you ask me. Early Wes Craven uses to get me on my nerves, and not precisely the way it should.

Title: Re: House of 1000 Corpses 2: the Devils Rejects
Post by: nobody on June 24, 2004, 01:45:24 PM
I've never seen Last House on the Left. I was always turned off by hearing people say I'd never get to see the full, uncut version (because it no longer exists). Is that true? And why exactly do you say its a "disgusting load of crap"?

Title: Re: House of 1000 Corpses 2: the Devils Rejects
Post by: Harry on June 24, 2004, 04:37:07 PM
it is.

I watched it, and it's one of those movies that you almost feel ashamed if you don't say you despised it... but I didn't, I tried to appriciate it for what it's worth (which isn't much, even Craven will tell you that)
it's really bad.
you just have to keep telling youself
it's only a movie
it's only a movie
it's only a movie

:)

Harry:

I agree with you.  This movie reminded me a LOT of the classic drive-in movies from the 1970s.  I loved it and am a proud owner of the DVD.  I can't figure out why so many horror movie fans hated it.  I felt like I was back at the drive-in again . . .

Not being a horror fan or having seen the movie, I'll nevertheless take a guess :)

Filling a movie with references to other, prior movies in the genre only can really pulled off with any respect if you first show you got the skills to create something yourself.  There is a fine line between "homage" and "ripoff" and the line can be drawn at the point where you don't *need* to put it in. Do you put something in that otherwise you wouldn't have to simply as an honor to prior artists when you could easily do something else?  Or do you out something simply because you're not skilled enough to come  up with something on your own?

Being a jazz fan doesn't mean you can play jazz.  Being a musician and releasing your first 'jazz cd' that's filled with riffs from prior artists ins't really an homage..first prove you have the skill and the chops to actually play something original, then when you have some credibility as an artist, you can go and release an 'homage' because people know it's really an homage of respect..a nod to the masters before you, and not just a rip off from your own loack of creativity.   There's are *reason* that bar bands playing cover tunes don't make as much or get as much muscial respect as the musicians who first recorded the song.

Now, I don't know how much of Zombie's movie actually shows his own skill and how much is just cliches and 'homages' to other works, but when a first time effort comes out from a 'fan' that's filled with 'homages', I'm not initially that impressed

I mean, Of Unknown Origin (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114795/) was *not* an homage to Alien and The Thing :) It was just a painfully bad an uncreative movie :)

I think Zombie had enough originality in it, and it's not like he just ripped off from one movie, it seemed more like homages to many movies.  I do see what you're saying though freep, and I agree with you.  If nothing else, zombie showed his originality and creative strength in the creation of some of his characters, Captain Spaulding and Otis especially.

If you have ever enjoyed any White Zombie videos merely for theitr colorful representations of horror and cool looking halloween s**t, you would know that this movie is overflowing with Rob Zombie originality and artistic style.

So what if images, story elements, and character profiles are vaguely based on a genre of movie or horror element we have seen before. I think he satisfied himself and that was the most important element in any artistic endeavor.

I still think that HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES was one of the most enjoyable horror movies in years.  After years of crap like SCREAM, FREDDY, JASON, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID, and all the rest of them, HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES was a breath of fresh air.

You are not alone, while it was not the worst movie I had ever seen, it was certainaly not the best.  I did not like that characters, they had no depth.  Though the effects were fairly decent.  Just not something I would sit down and watch often.  But I did like the guy in the gas station, the clown guy....he was pretty funny.

Yeah- the clown cracked me up.  I watched the intro part on the main menu at least twice.

As far as the movie, I'll agree that the effects were good.   I didn't give a care about whether the characters lived or died, which doesn't help with the suspense factor.  The bad guys were merely annoying... not scary.  The little plot "twists" didn't do anything for me either.

In summary: I didn't like it.

Horror movies shouldn't be all cozy like most recent horror movies have become.

House of 1000 Corpses was awesome, for the type of movie it was.  It was meant to be a graphic, and sometimes funny, horror-movie-on-acid... or maybe LSD... i wouldn't know.  Either way.

The clown was funny, the characters did their parts well.  The movie was very enjoyable.  I had seen the original TCM a few years ago, and when i first watched Houseof1000 on DVD after it was out for quite some time, and I didn't see the connection.  Then a month later i saw TCM2 in the theaters, and felt like I was watching a PG-13 version of Houseof1000... Too many things were too close, but House was a better movie because of its randomness and more gore.  It belongs as a horror classic, and I think will be a cult classic in the future.

I am so excited for the Devil's Rejects.  I loved Rob Zombie's House.  If only more people truly appreciated horror in the genre and its history. House of 1000 Corpses was truly one of the best films ever made.  If you don't agree, maybe you can wake up next to Otis or Captain Spaulding. Ha ha ha...

true that Monster Fan.
I'm really looking forward to the "bounty hunter" aspect of Devils rejects.  Zombie says that the movie will be less of a Horror film than the last and more of a "extremely violent western"

it shall be cool.

House of 1000 corpses was an AWESOME movie.  people dont like it because they watch it in the wrong context.  Look back at all his music videos hes ever done, even since White Zombie.  Look at House of 100 Corpses.  Its a music video without music.  and its scary as hell.  and i think i have you all beat for autographs.  Its not the movie autographed, but back in 1996 on their La Sexorcisto tour, i got an Ibanez guitar signed by Rob, J. , and Sean (was his girlfriend and bassist for band) worth somewhere around $900-$1000 right now. and its not signed on the pickguard like the cheap ones.  But anyways Devil's rejects is going to be awesome.  I hope the unholy two are like vampires are werewolves or even better demons or something.  but prolly not. o well. i cant wait.  anyone know when its being released? im guessing halloween just because its rob.

Yes, here we are, waiting, pining, creeping, lurking in the dark for some small glimpse of the morbid fascination that we have with the macabre.  Each of us like an ant to a pile of candy, striving for a taste and to take some home.  The Devil's Rejects is going to be an awesome film, Rob is going to have to do a really great job because he set one hell of a standard for himself with House 1, but I know it will be great... Oh yea, is there anyone out there who gets or even knows the classics like Lugosi, Karloff, Lon Chaney and Jr., Max Schrek, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, London After Midnight, The Unholy Three, these are classic monsters and dreams of illusioned days gone by...  There must be someone who understands and appreciates these things as do I, if not just on an entertainment level, but on a historical and culturally significant level.  Today is a thousand years, yesterday was a thousand corpses, and tomorrow will be a thousand dreamz..............................
Keep watchin,      Monsterfan

Where have all the fans of horror gone?  I started writing on this forum so that I could intellectually converse about my favorite horror and thriller movies.  So where are you monster freaks at?  I need some feedback...  I am definately a horror movie historian.  I have seen just about every horror, low-budget, independent and B-movie ever made.  Maybe I should start my own web fan site.  I understand through Fangoria that House 2 is being filmed and completed as I write.  I am hoping for a Halloween release, but who knows?  I know that Rob is probably having a lot of fun.  I meant to get a hold of him to audition for the movie, but I wasn't able to.  I myself am making a low,low,low,low-budget horror film this fall that is bound to be a gas, a gasp of bloody dead air as you slip into unconsciousness, ha ha ha...Well, get on the sight and enlighten some people with your views.  Rob, if your out there, read this and give me an Email, hell, I may be your next big starr...  Oh yea, is there any Buckethead fans out there???  It would be nice to hear from you also.  Can you imagine Rob Zombie and Buckethead getting together for something of an artistic compilation.............................

You know that Bill Mosley has a band with Buckethead in it, right?  I'm waiting for a Zakk Wylde/ Rob Zombie team up before Buckethead...he's cool, but Zakk is 10 times the guitarist, and a bit cooler in my opinion.  I know Wylde has expressed interest in doing a team up, but I havn't heard anything from Buckethead.
Oh, and as for your original question...I'm right here!
I just hope that Zombie keeps making movies...as much as I like his music, we need him making movies more than we need his music (both would be nice, but we can't demand too much from the guy...or can we...?)  I was disapointed to hear that Zombie will not be doing the music for Devil's Rejects, but if it means a good quality film, I'll allow the sacrifice.

let us know about your film as it develops...I've always wanted to work on a horror film, but all of the films I've done have had to be mainly dialogue driven because I don't have enough money for special effects.  I've been meaning to test a few low budget gore effects, but for every dollar you don't spend on it, it seems as if it adds an hour of manual work involved...in other words I just don't got the time!

Yea, I knew that they were friends and that Bill appears on a couple of his albums.  It's great to know there are more people out there with the same interests of sorts.  As for Zakk, I love Zakk, I first saw and met him in his band Pride and Glory at a small little gig at the Cane's Ballroom in Tulsa, America.  He is a great guitarist, but I don't think he can hang with Buckethead.  My personal favorite, and the greatest on the planet is Jimmy Page, can you imagine being in the greatest band of all time, LED ZEPPELIN, and being the world's greatest guitar player...  Page turned me on to a lot of things when I was a bit younger, things like Aleister Crowley, are you familiar with Crowley's work?  Robert Johnson, Niccolo Paginini, a whole world of the occult flavor.  One who loves horror is often as equally intrigued with the occult and the black arts.  I tend to mix the two as if they were coffee and cream.  As for my movie, the final draft is in the works right now,  we are suppose to get filming in October.  This movie actually has no budget, well a quite small one, but lots of favors.  As for effects, I've stolen a lot of tricks from the trade, one of my personal favorites is the metal around the leg and a huge hunk of beef brisket under the jeans( taken from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre when Leatherface cuts his own leg with the SAW).  The Saw is family.  We have to wait for October so that we can get that beautiful Hallow's Eve Fall autumn look here in the wondrous Oklahoma.  I don't even want to try and hawl in orange and red leaves like Carpenter did in the original Halloween.  I would tell you a little more about the story of my movie, but I'm actually afraid someone might steal the format before I can get it out.  It's actually  a pretty original storyline. Ha, ha.  I think I'm going for a record as to how many times I can say original in this draft.
Peace Out, and unpleasent night terrors for all, Monsterfan.......

ooo, Mr. Crowley :) :)
I first heard of the man from the Ozzy Osbourn song by that title (long ago), which intrigued me, then I, as you said, learned again of him through Jimmy Page (agreed, greatest guitarist of all time...so inventive, so original, so damn good).  Then again ol' Aleister snuck in my life again a few months ago when I started reading the comic book "John Constantine: Hellblazer" (which I reccomend to you if you havn't read it yet, lots about black magic, however the movie "Constantine" will be a great disapointment in my opinion, damn you keanu reeves).  I've been meaning to learn more about Crowley and the occult, maybe your mentioning it is what I needed to get learnin'.
I have to disagree with you however, Zakk CAN hang with Buckethead!  We need to set up a guitar-off and see who's right, or rather prove that I am right!
I've been listening to alot of White Zombie recently, I can't think of the fella's name, but that guitarist ain't that bad...not of Buckethead/Zakk Wylde calibre, but good.
Be careful with that metal and beef around the leg, Gunnar Hannsen nearly cut his leg off with that set up...if I remember correctly... someone might have gotten hurt, but that could just be my imagination.  The saw IS family.  Remember: dog will hunt...DOG WILL HUNT!
Somthing that nobody really notices (but I did, and I bet you did) is the parallel between Bill's lines in TCM2 and House:
ChopTop: "My brain is on fire"
and
Otis: "My brain is frozen"
I use both all the time....nobody gets it :(

I honestly dont know what most of you are talking about House 1 was one of the best horror movies i have seen in too long. It was so disturbing and sick that it is now on par with Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Shining as my favourite movies of all time. It was brilliant and made me feel strange for the whole day thats what you want cant wait for the next one
P.s anyone know the plot for this one?

Bounty hunters out to get the Firefly family.  I think one of the bounty hunters is Sherrif Wydell's brother, and I think they leave the house and go on the run.  Zombie says that it's less of a Horror film, and more of an extremely violent western, and references films i.e. The Wild Bunch.  Many of the actors have been quoted saying that a noteable amount of the scenes left them very disturbed on the shoot.  If Bill Mosely is disturbed on the shoot...we know we have gold!  Rob is excited about it because LGF is giving him complete control over content etc.
I wish it were coming out sooner, but we'll have to wait until early 2005.

Exact release date hasn't been announced yet.  Expect it sometime from late spring to mid-summer, would be my guess.  They're just about done with all the post-prod stuff, according to Zombie's last report.
