Title: Movies you consider perfect.
Post by: akiratubo on July 03, 2003, 11:13:43 AM
The Terminator
RoboCop
Predator
Nausicaa
Warriors of the Wasteland

Those are five examples of movies I consider to be absolutely perfect.  Nothing -- nothing -- could improve upon them and I never, ever, get tired of them.

What are some of yours?

Certainly not many:

Chinatown

Blade Runner

Apocalypse Now Redux

Spirited Away

Robocop

The outlaw Josey Whales

Conan the Barbarian

Cop

2001

Unforgiven

The bulk of my favourite list are movies that are *almost* perfect, like Minority Report, LA Confidential or most Eastwood westerns.

Star Wars (the original -- it could stand by itself, without the sequels/prequels/nightquels)

A Night at the Opera

The only one that springs to mind is the Godfather and Jaws.  Both are flawless, or as close to it as possible.  The Godfather isn't really a favorite of mine though.

Since humans are not perfect....and films are made by humans.....no film is perfect.

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.

Also, not really the same thing, but Plan 9 From Outer Space is the "perfect" b-movie.

Fight Club-By far the best film in my collection.  A strange story with a strange nameless hero.  Great stuff!

Se7en-Can anyone see that I like Fincher's stuff?

American Beauty-Awesome film.  I was AMAZED by this film when it first came out.  Love, hate, humor, heart.

Bowling For Columbine-I can honestly say this film is perfect.  Having been a Michael Moore fan for years, this flick is his crowning achievment.  Moore can perfectly mix humor with scenes of desperation and pain like no other.

Ghost World-Saw this film about a year ago when it first came out on DVD.  Watched it last night and remembered just how great it was.  Not exactly perfect, more near perfect.

It Happened One Night
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Duck Soup
A Night at the Opera
Casablanca
Bridge on the River Kwai

In my humble opinion

Clerks, I enjoy every minute of that movie, it's a funny collection of conversations, not much could make it better in my opinion.

Silence of he Lambs, Hopkinds at his best.

Psycho, sick twisted film, it was before it's time and the scenes and stories in it have been spoofed by so many cartoons, films, and shows, very influencial.

>The Terminator

I like The Terminator, but I don't know if I'd call it perfect. The scene of Arnold operating on his eye was an obvious puppet and the full-figure shots of the endoskeleton at the end were obvious stop motion.

Perfect flims?  Eep.

I'd say Nausicaa, but after having read the manga, I can't in good concience reccomend it as perfect.  It's merely 'Incredibly good'.  Hmm.  A Night At the Opera springs to mind, as does The Godfather, blah blah blah.   I'm gonna throw up a couple lesser-known ones.

The Perfect Action Movie: John Woo's 'The Killer'.  Good God I love this movie.

Perfect Movie to watch just for the flying sequences: Porco Russo.

Perfect Movie Involving a John Denver Song: WHisper of the Heart

Perfect film, like no other, no parralells on this Earth:  Backdoor sluts 9.
