Title: Obscure 70s and 80s Horror Post by: voltron on February 12, 2012, 08:41:48 AM I'm always hunting for the most obscure 70s and 80s horror movies. Can any of you give me some suggestions?
Title: Re: Obscure 70s and 80s Horror Post by: RCMerchant on February 12, 2012, 09:17:37 AM the 1977 DEMON LOVER (aka the DEVIL MASTER) directed by the genuis who gave us HELL COMES TO FROGTOWN with Rowdy Roddy Piper-Donald Jackson.
(http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l79/RCMerchant/b55xcj.jpg) I bought a vhs tape of this at a flea market under the title the DEVIL MASTER. It's pretty bad-but fun. Gunnar Hansen-of Leatherface fame-has a small role as a professor. Supposedly,Ted Nugent was to star-but backed out. Made right here in good old Michigan! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8C33rtGPew&feature=related Title: Re: Obscure 70s and 80s Horror Post by: Andrew on February 12, 2012, 10:13:33 AM The most obscure films are probably going to be very limited, often regional releases. There are tons of them out there. I discover one of them from time to time. I'll suggest "Forever Evil" and "Bog" though both have seen limited DVD releases, and so are not as obscure as they once were.
"Terror in the Swamp" should be fairly obscure, and it's a terrible monster horror movie. Perhaps "Fright Show" as well? Title: Re: Obscure 70s and 80s Horror Post by: Jack on February 12, 2012, 10:38:28 AM Check out some of those multiple movie sets, 4-packs, 10 packs, even the Mill Creek 50 movie sets. A lot of obscure movies aren't going to get their own DVD release due to lack of interest, but they're profitable to release as part of a set.
Just do a search on "horror pack" over at Amazon, then select the DVD category. Title: Re: Obscure 70s and 80s Horror Post by: zombie no.one on February 12, 2012, 10:45:51 AM THINGS

I like the offer of "a free prune to anyone while they last.". :bouncegiggle: (http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l79/RCMerchant/homebodiesad2-263x450.jpg) (http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l79/RCMerchant/homebodies.jpg) A group of senior citizens get together to stop a building project from tearing down there homes-by killing the planners and workers. A very black comedy/horror movie I seen on the first half of a double bill with PSYCHIC KILLER. Unfortunatly-it has no dvd release. Meaybe you can find an old vhs on ebay-or you can watch it on youtube. Here's a spanish language trailer-it will at least give you the feel of the film- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JERmAXK53Og&feature=related EDIT: Lugosi freak that I am-I had to post this ad for the stage production of Arsenic and Old Lace featuring Bela Lugosi...and Ruth McDevitt-star of HOMEBODIES! (http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l79/RCMerchant/shadow_of_hawk_poster_01.jpg) Cheif Dan George (the OUTLAW JOSEY WALES,LITTLE BIG MAN) and Jan Micheal Vincent battle a 200 year old Indian witch. Pretty much forgotton now.- the witch's mask is spooky.Another movie from my youth at the Strand theater. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJbIkuSGFHw Title: Re: Obscure 70s and 80s Horror Post by: The Burgomaster on February 13, 2012, 11:13:10 AM Wow . . . so many choices. Here are only a few. I'm not saying they're all good, but you should probably see them anyway:
* INVASION OF THE BLOOD FARMERS * BARN OF THE NAKED DEAD * I DRINK YOUR BLOOD * DR. DEATH: SEEKER OF SOULS * THE BRAIN LEECHES (one of the worst movies ever . . . impossibly cheap . . . very obscure) * THE ALIEN DEAD * SHRIEK OF THE MUTILATED Title: Re: Obscure 70s and 80s Horror Post by: alandhopewell on February 13, 2012, 02:27:24 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRmj5DjHHaU

House (1977): Japanese bizarro supernatural horror. I saw about 30 minutes of it at somebody's house when I was doing a quick stop-by, and I've been meaning to watch the whole thing ever since. I read that the special effects were made unrealistic on purpose, and that matches my memory pretty well. Title: Re: Obscure 70s and 80s Horror Post by: retrorussell on February 15, 2012, 07:00:52 PM Suggestions I hope I'm not repeating:
VENGEANCE IS MINE (1974): Great revenge flick with terrific acting by Ernest Borgnine, who plays a farmer besieged by escape convicts. FRIGHTMARE (1974): Wonderful British chiller about a cannibalistic granny, played superbly by Sheila Keith. BAY OF BLOOD (1971): Gory tale of greed involving several people in pursuit of estate property. One of the best giallos. I'm sure I could think of a lot more but I better get back to work. Title: Re: Obscure 70s and 80s Horror Post by: CarlinBrock on February 15, 2012, 10:12:34 PM Double Exposure is a largely forgotten slasher movie from the '80s. It's unique for sure.

[/quote] Exactly! Awesome. I have it in one of the Mill Creek sets - And the print quality is surprisingly good. The director seemed to want to make a drama more than a slasher movie. It almost works, too. |
