haven't had one of these "100" threads in a while...

how about animals that kill a character(s) in a movie.

NB: the rule is, the animal has to exist in reality (give or take a genetic mutation or two). so it can't be a completely fictional creation. also no repeats, see if we can get to 100 different animals!

I'll start off...


1. JAWS (1975) ...Death by shark.

2) Grizzly (1976) - Death by Grizzly

Whoops! 100 different animals, so no Grizzly Man.

3) Piranha - Death by Piranha.

4). The Birds - death by bird (we'll say crows in case someone wants to use a different bird later)

This one is going to be difficult... I'll be impressed if we make 100.

5) Aracnaphobia - Spiders kill folks. (Hybrids, but still a real type of animal.)

6) Anaconda - Death by bad acting, sorry I mean Anaconda.

7) Rogue - Death by crocodile.

8) Aligator - Death by aligator.

9) Frogs - Death by rattlesnakes.
10)          Death by tarantulas.
11)          Death by tokay geckos.
12)          Death by cottonmouth.
13)          Death by aligator snapping turtle.

RATS: NIGHT OF TERROR (1984) - death by rats.

15: UNINVITED- Death by cat.

16. Slugs (1987) - Death by slugs.

17. AENIGMA (1987) - Death by snails.  :teddyr:

18. Squirm (1976) - Death by worms  :smile:

EMPIRE OF THE ANTS (1977) - Death by ants.  (larger than normal ants but they count)

20) Birdemic - Death by exploding eagle (not sure if that is a seperate species from a normal eagle or not).
21)               Death by exploding vulture (again with the species).

22)  fantastic voyage.  Death by white blood cell,  a single cell that's part of an animal (human being)
23)  the blob 1988. Death by mutated single cell animal.
24) razorback.  Death by boar.
25) Jurassic park.  Death by dinosaurs,  real animals brought back by cloning.

26. Night of the Lepus (1972) - Death by Bunnies.

27.  Moby dick.  Death by great white whale.
28.  Orca.  Death by killer whale.
29. Deep blue sea.  Death by mako shark.

30. Bride of the monster.  Death by mad scientist pet giant octopus.
31.  Sands of the Kalahari.  Implied death by baboon.

31. The Vikings - Death by wolf hound.
32. A Cry In The Dark - Death by dingo.
33. Vampire Bats - Death by vampire bats.
34. Beaster Bunny - Death by rabbit (also see Monty Python).

35. Lion King - Death by Wildebeast.
36.                Death by Hyena.
37. The Ghost And The Darkness - Death by lion.

38. THE DEADLY BEES (1968) - Death by, erm, bees.

Wouldn't rabbits and bunnies be the same thing? We don't have to change the numbering; Jurassic park has 3 types of dinosaurs killing characters.

Velociraptor - Just about everyone else who dies

Take away one of the rabbits, add three dinos, and we should be at 38.

39) Komodo (1999) - Invasive Komodo dragons kill people.

40.  The killer shrews.  Death by very large shrews.
41. Them!  Death by mutated ants.

thanks for all your suggestions but, similar to rabbits/bunnies above, I'm gonna say Sharks and Ants have already been covered (Jaws and Empire Of The Ants). so we're now on #39.

- whales and killer whales both count because killer whales are technically dolphins!

#39: Cockroaches-- CREEPSHOW.  Also see: THE NEST and MIMIC (though they're human-roach hybrids).

The shark in jaws was a great white,  the shark in deep blue sea was a mako.  Different types of shark. Like white white whales be orcas are different species of cetacean.


Rabbits and hares are different.

?? Clash of the titans.  Death by scorpion,  admittedly scorpions hyped on gorgon blood.

BLACK SHEEP - Death by mutated carnivorous sheep!

#56: A guinea pig causes a woman to be decapitated (you have to see it!) in THE ASPHYX.

57. Blood Glacier (2013) - Death by Capricorn (with wings. It was a mutation). I believe there was at least one death caused by that animal. Lots of carnage during that scene so I'm not 100% sure.

can anyone confirm if someone gets killed by a kangaroo in WOLF CREEK 2? might be imagining it...


komodo dragon's been done (#39). good work on the others...I was surprised I couldn't think of any jellyfish ones, glad they made the list!

58) The Little Fox - Death by Fox (The main characters are hunters; their prey's given personalities, making the prey minor characters.)

59) The Birds - Death by Seagulls (Rev Powell listed crows!)

Funnily enough I did have to put in quite a lot of thought into a film where jelly fish kill someone. Then I gave up and googled it. :(

60) Old Yeller - Death by Wolf (The wolf gave the dog rabies, fatal even if Yeller wasn't euthanized.)

Not sure scientific will work here; most people consider dogs & wolves fairly distinct, but they're both part of the genus canis.

61) Disney's Tarzan - Tarzan's parents are killed by a Leopard; Death by Leopard.

What were the over-sized worms in "King Kong" (PJ version)? I was going to suggest cave crickets, but those didn't actually kill anyone.

Well,  I didn't see leeches on your admirably compiled list and there. Was. A. Movie about giant killer leeches called 'attack of the killer leeches.'

In an. Omen movie a woman was killed by a Satan controlled raven I believe. Or too close to crow?


And I know people. Have been killed by gorillas in movies.

You had an entry for octopus,  which I assume you. Meant giant octopus like in 'tentacles'.  In 'octop***y' (yes I'd like to forget it too)  a man was killed by a much more realistic octopus species,  a small,  blue ring octopus which is one of the most venomous little b@st@rds on earth.  And while some people may have been killed by a giant octopus,  I guarantee you more people are killed by blue ring octopi in real life.

So. Giant octopus/blue ring octopus?

I'd count them as separate.

I know we've had lion deaths before but a real killing by lions occurred on the set of the South African film The Last Lion (1972) when the sound man James Chapman was mauled to death by one.

The dog which he killed belonged to the main character's love interest; I'd assume the filmmakers would've given it some develooment so its death had an emotional impact, even if it was only as a foil, it was probably at least a minor character.

There may be a movie where this was used too.  Now from a point of view this would be death by animal even if the animal was used by a human as a murder weapon.

Syfy did Deep Shock, which includes death by electric eel (oversized, of course).
