Title: Nostalgia Critc reviews Home Alone 3
Post by: InformationGeek on April 13, 2010, 09:43:41 PM
This is actually my favorite of the entire series surprisingly.  The traps were more creative, the villians you could take a bit more seriously, the kid was pretty smart and could handle himself rather well, the slapstick was entertaining, and I love the fact that a little kid could capture/take out 4 professional trained spies.

Though you got to wonder something about the parents who keep leaving the kid home alone despite the fact that he has the chicken pox...

I thinking they have jobs to do.  When I, or my brothers  were sick from school, our parents left us home alone.  Granted, the neighborhood presented in the movie looks like it's inhabited by people who can afford babysitters-but still.

I don't always agree with NC, I just watch his review because they're funny.

I guess you could take the villains more seriously at the beginning, but the fact that they're portrayed as so elite and then instantly defeated by a little kid (even though on screen both kids are the same age, the kid in part 3 looks a lot younger because in real life, he was about two and a half years younger than Macauley was) just in the end makes it even more unbelievable.  I also thought the writing was TV-movie mediocre, the traps strained credibility a million times more than the original film (which itself strained it at times), and NO ONE in the movie had the charisma or screen presence of the three leads in the original film.  Blah, have to disagree, basically.  Don't think HA3 is really AWFUL, just very blah and mediocre - and vastly inferior to the film that spawned it.

NC was dead on with every riff in this one, one of his better recent videos.  The Rear Window nod was my favorite.
