Title: So, I would imagine somebody here knows.
Post by: TitanoGoji on November 16, 2016, 03:27:16 AM
First of all, hi there! While this is my first post on the forums, I've been coming to Badmovies.org for... God. So many years. It was one of the first websites I frequented regularly. I'm also the one who wrote the Reader Review for Python. So, you can imagine how much it pains me (and other people, I'd imagine) to see that the site has pretty much died, with the last review being almost four years ago.

Now, I looked over every possible nook and cranny of this website and tried looking throughout the forum here to utterly no avail. I'm hoping somebody here can tell me what the heck happened? Did Andrew retire or enter the Witness Protection Program or begin his own colony on Mars or something? I'd guess maybe he just decided to hang things up, but I would've thought he'd put up a "farewell" message on the front page or something.

well, the forum is still active but I have no idea what Andrew is up to these days. I guess life got in the way. I've noticed a decline of reviews at several movie message boards I hang out. horrordigital for example has been struggling to put up new reviews for years (not a bad movie site per se, but they would review some occasionally). There was a bit of a boost of reviews last year submitted by readers, but it seemed to have simmered down again.

That said, tons of bad movie classics got the royal Blu-ray treatment the last few years with little to no reviews.

If I recall correctly, Andrew had someone close to him pass away and from that time onwards, he hardly ever came here anymore.

As for the reviews, I still would like to write some but just can't seem to find the time anymore.

Andrew appears to have moved on, although he is fine and still pays the server bills.

Message boards in general have declined--Facebook and Twitter, and even more so Reddit, have stolen their thunder. But they are still special places because you can form a type of community here that you can't elsewhere. I know the regular posters here better than my own neighbors.

If Andrew ever decides to give up this place for good, I have floated the idea of buying it off him to keep it running.

Hope you'll stick around these forums, Titano. They're still a special place.

At least the people here don't have one of their trees fall on my house's roof: this happened to me last month.  :buggedout:

I couldn't give too much but I could probably kick in a few $ to help if needed.

I wouldn't mind helping with the cost, too :)
