Title: Dragon Fighter
Post by: Andrew on July 28, 2003, 10:25:54 PM
I finally watched "Dragon Fighter."

The special effects are about what you would expect from a video game.  Now, that sounds bad, but other movies had made effects of that quality work.  The first four "LEXX" movies jump to mind.  In this case I couldn't help but to laugh at the dragon, since he looks like a refugee from a Playstation 2 game.  (Maybe "Jak and Daxter.")

I have to say that the helicopter's fuel leak (an early plot point) is located in a convenient place.  Nice to have a trap door right there in the floor.

Something that made me laugh, in hindsight, was the speed with which they cloned the dragon from the DNA sample.  When they started it I said aloud, "Oh, please do not let this thing grow to full size in 24 hours."  I was way off, the dragon was ready in around 3 hours.  Silly me.

The weird arrangement of split screens or alternate angles was nuts.  Sometimes you had four panels (or more) on the screen, each showing something different.  Then they would wipe or push or something to go back to a single panel.  And half of the time the action in different panels did not sync.  Talk about a movie to torture recovering heroine addicts.  Already they would have the crawling horrors, then add this thing's camera and editing work.

Lesson learned:

Fusion reactors are cooled with central air.

Yeah, the missles won't lock on that large creature, that has to be pumping out the heat, with all that muscular exertion....so, they don't use the 20mm cannon on the F-16s. Stupid, stupid movie! nBad...bad movie. No sequal!

I saw it on the shelf at the video shop.

As soon as I saw that Dean Cain had the starring role in it I immediately put it back on the shelf.

No thanks!

And if anyone honestly needs any extra incentive not to see this movie (EVER!) then this should do it. http://www.schlocktoberfest.com/archives/nowff/foy_0103n.html
