Title: Trailer for Frank Miller's 300
Post by: trekgeezer on October 05, 2006, 07:37:01 AM
Based on Miller's graphic novel retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae using the film style of Sin City.

Frank Miller's 300 (http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/)

My favorite lines

"...our arrows will blot out the sun."

Leonidas "Then we shall fight in the shade!"

Which is based upon a true historical incident. And previously filmed in 1962 as "The Three Hundred Spartans" w/  Richard Egan, Sir Ralph Richardson, and Diane Baker.

And that quote is--supposedly--not something made up by a Hollywood screenwriter, but is--supposedly--something actually said by King Leonidas.

300 Spartans (1962) is a good one. The real historical event with the Spartans helping the Atheneans against the Persians with the Spartans lead by Leonidas at a mountain pass called Thermopylae. Just 300 Spartans took on 1000's of Persians.

Just watched all 7 parts of the making of 300 on Youtube and this film looks just awesome. Comes out some time in 2007. The sets and look of this film will be amazing when complete. It's how movies should be made. This film must be seen in the theater when it comes out.

Also, and I ran into the book since the Marine Corps has a recommended reading list, you can read "Gates of Fire."  It is an impressive story, even with the embellishments that the book adds.  The author does state that he wanted to stay true to the story.

It's a great story [the actual event that is] and I'm a big Frank Miller fan as well.  It sounds awesome.

What's hilarious is the fact that the film The Warriors is also meant to be somewhat loosely based on the tale, and is much better for the comparison.

Will be looking out for this one.
