Title: Genre burnout?
Post by: Svengoolie 3 on February 14, 2018, 05:56:50 PM
Are there any genres you are burned out on completely? Any genres you just don't want to see or hear about for a while?

Yeah, I got two:

Superheroes.

Zombies.

I'm still good with superheroes.

Zombies I got tired of a long time ago.

I was really big on those SyFy channel schlocky creature features for a while (i.e. Sharknado, Sand Sharks, Swamp Shark, Dinoshark, etc. etc.) but I must have overdosed on them cuz now I can't even look at another one, haha

I got sick of those real fast. Kinda burnt out on zombies too. Really don't need to see another 'found footage' movie either.

Another vote for Superheroes. It's overkill for years now but people still can't seem to get enough  :bluesad:

yeah this got rinsed to overkill after Blair Witch happened.

but I like to think the best movies always trancend their own genre, and are just great movies period.

I have definitely went off Zombie movies. Superhero ones I am still fine on as long as they make ones I enjoy.

Kristi watched Two Headed Shark attack with me once and immedietely banned me from buying any movies with Brooke Hogan in them, sdo not managed to burn out on SyFy stuff, other than the Sharknado movies which I am most certainly done with. I liked the first Saw and Hostel movies for being something different but to me the whole torture porn thing is overplayed and done. Besides I'd rather watch something that was actually scary than just buckets of blood thrown at the screen.

I disliked both of those films from day one. Saw () the first films of those series-never went back for more.

I never liked torture porn or found footage movies.

I got burned out of those when they were still fresh in the oven.  ... does that simile work?  I'm not sure if that works.

Yea, the "Saw" and "Hostel" flicks did nothin' for me either. I saw the first in both series and never understood what all the whoop-de-doo was about.

Also I never want to see or hear about a Wayans bros movie again.  I really hate the stupid parody films they do.  I actually came close to vomiting when. I saw clips from. Their horrible movie ''white chicks''.  That whole parody. Movie genre can go to he'll as far as i'm concerned.  Meet the Spartans,  vampires suck,  super hero movie,  etc.  I'd empty my bladder on 'em all.

Never liked them either. I liked the very first Wayan Bros. movie- but that was Keenan Ivory Wayans and Damien Wayans- I'M GONNA GET YOU SUCKA!

I'll go with those Godawful Fast and the Furious car chase films as well as those stupid Tyler Perry Madea films..unless the next one is "Madea Goes To Hell(and stays there!)".

I never even TRIED to watch the FAST AND FURIOUS movies. The only reason I stuck watching the Madea crap is because Tiana iliked them, and I watched them until I said-" I can't do this anymore."

Also "miss-matched buddy cops" movies. When they start started doing junk like pairing worn out  SNL comics with overage action heros- blech! That genre wore thin soon after BEVERLY HILLS COP way back when.

randomly caught a bit of one of the Fast + Furious movies a while back. the 5th one I think... surprised at just how juvenile it was. seemed to be aimed squarely at bratty 13yr olds. I assumed they were more in the (slightly more mature) tough guy action flick mould.

I'd just about rather shoot myself than watch any of the Madea movies or any of the other obnoxious, unfunny crap that Tyler Perry has churned out.

I wasn't exactly impressed with the first one or two Fast and the Furious movies when I watched them in my late teens.  I can only imagine the newer ones are more of the same, or worse.

I'm not burned out on good zombie movies yet, but that's because they are so few and far between.  I am definitely sick to death of the endless remakes, reboots, and ripoffs of the classics, though.  And almost all of the rest are Z grade, made for the SyFy channel type of garbage.
