Title: Breaking into sci-fi acting
Post by: OctopusJarBoy on July 02, 2002, 01:05:54 AM
Hi! I am a B-movie and sci-fi fan, nothing more...Anyway, I was watching yet another 4th rate sci-fi movie on the SCIFI channel the other day, when something struck me: Why am I sitting here, playing the role of the viewer, and why/how did the people in the TV get to be the actors? Basically, what separates them from me, or any other viewer? I mean, the acting was horrible to begin with, so it wasn't that the actors had some talent edge over the average Joe. Then I thought that maybe they had compiled some kind of formidable resume, but then I came to my senses and realized that this wasn't possible either. So after weeks of thinking about this, I thought I would ask people with expertise the following question: "In order to get a non-negligible role in a movie such as a 4th rate film on the SCI-fi channel, what does one REALLY have to do? What qualities, if any, does one have to possess that makes them a suitable candidate to act in a really bad sci-fi flick? I would greatly appreciate ANY feedback from anyone..Thank you!

Mainly, most of these actors(in extremely fourth rate movies)are either incestous friends with the films' directors and producers,or have their shady connections with the filmmaking world, which is how they get their jobs.
The real, rightful way to break into acting:attend casting auditions nonstop, practice up on your acting lessons, and if these two don't work, always do your best to save up your money, buy a movie camera(old school, video,or digital),and film your own movie, with yourself as the star(of course):hey, that worked for Bruce Campbell,Rudy Ray Moore, and Fred Williamson.
Either way,the following three will help enable you to properly get into an acting career in the movies.

suck up your pride...go for broke...move to LA...drive a limo or wait tables...get your first 16mm-break playing a gay guy...then audition again for 3 years...and counting...and counting...

(this story belongs to one of my college roommates)
