Title: MUSICALS
Post by: RCMerchant on February 09, 2020, 07:31:09 PM
 I seen a few musicals I liked, but not many. I have sacrificed my soul and watched some. Usually to my dismay and horror.

SGT. PEPPERS LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND (1978)
Talk about dated! But that's one of it's good points. It's bad points are everything else!

Off the top of my head, O Brother, Where Art Thou, and Cannibal, The Musical.....

I get ADD every time someone on FaceBook brings up Frozen's "Do You Want To Build A Snowman", & always have to reply with a video of Cannibal's "Let's Build A Snowman".....

 I Love ROCK AND ROLL HIGH SCHOOL!
I mean, it's got PJ Soles, Mary Wornov, Clint Howard, and the RAMONES!
And it was actually funny!

Sweeney Todd. Gotta love a man with so much spunk he slaughters his enemies, yet stays chaste while seeking his beloved wife.

GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933 (1933)
This was filmed in the Great Depression. Most of the folks watching this were broke as a joke.
That's why gangster movies were a big thing back then, I reckon they day-dreamed of robbing banks.
Horror movies were scary escapism.
and Musical's were airhead escapism.

And this one is so cool! It's Busby Berkley!
And watching Ginger Rogers sing backwards devil masking of the song ' We're In The Money 'is bacon!

not sure if A MIGHTY WIND counts? if so then that.

THE APPLE looks amazing(ly bad) from the trailer, need to check it out at some point.

also not a full length film but I highly recommend AD/BC: A ROCK OPERA...

I have quite a few musicals in my collection and I generally enjoy them. Here are a few:

* OLIVER!
* KISS ME KATE (in 3-D)
* FIDDLER ON THE ROOF
* THE SOUND OF MUSIC
* SINGIN' IN THE RAIN
* SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS
* THE MUSIC MAN
* CALAMITY JANE
* WEST SIDE STORY
* OKLAHOMA!
* MY FAIR LADY
* GREASE
* GUYS AND DOLLS
* SOUTH PACIFIC
* ROCK 'N' ROLL HIGH SCHOOL

Probably 6 or 7 others. There's a time and place for everything . . . including musicals!

I really like these selections and I generally don't like Musicals.

I also like CABARET
THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE
ALL THAT JAZZ
... is a sort of musical...

Fvck it, I'll say it: The Last Five Years. Blame my sadness-loving Irish DNA, blame my own past, but I used to be obsessed with this film.
