Drove up  the road a bit ago and listened to an old Rick Steves' radio show episode, and this woman called in to share her experiences traveling in Kenya, and she referred to the Maasai she met there as "African Americans." Gosh....

As a proud third generation African, born and bred in what is now Zimbabwe, I have never understood the "African American" term at all. I actually get angry when people from overseas misappropriate our rich culture.

I'm not the biggest gangster movie fan. I've recently tried to watch Heat and the Warner herzog New Orleans one and I just can't with all the fancy acting and ridiculous dialogue.

I've had those a couple of times. They're not bad.

Today we were at this country-kinda restaurant called Bob Evans, and our server was a nice soft-spoken lady with her blond hair in a tight bun, about fifty, and her accent reminded me she was from maybe somewhere south of Nashville, and as I was getting something out of my purse, she saw I had a curious-looking device I carry called a De-Choker, which consists of a long clear plastic tube about eight inches long and three inches wide, and a pump handle at the top, a sort of suction appliance that fits over the mouth and supposedly removes food from the windpipe of a choking victim.

She asked what that was, and I said, "Well, it's a De-Choker, but I don't want people to think I'm weird carrying it around, so I tell them it's a Swedish-Made Penis Enlarger."

She stared at me for about five seconds and her cheeks went pink and she finally said, deeply serious, "Ma'am, why would you want people to think you were carrying one of those?"

Well, my Jewish friends would have gotten the joke anyway.

(And I tipped her thirty percent.)

Mine went up from $843 to $886
