Title: Hansie (2008)

www.imdb.com/title/tt1099200 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1099200)

The earnest bio-pic of the controversial, yet successful SA cricket captain Hansie Cronje who was sacked because of a match fixing scandal and then, just as his life was turning around for the better, died in a horrific plane crash in 2002.  :buggedout:

As made by SA actor turned director Regardt van den Bergh, the film does not glamourize what Hansie Cronje did but it presents him as an fallible human being, at the same time a generous and giving person.

Much was made at the time of the SA United Cricket Board's unsupportive nature and immediate sacking of Cronje when the news of the scandal broke while they defended a current SA cricketer who was accused of assault and rape, only to be freed on a technicality.

A great movie ~ heavy at times, especially the conclusion ~ but a good watch, nonetheless.
