Title: The Devils Daughter (1939)
Post by: Scott on October 19, 2006, 05:21:15 AM
THE DEVILS DAUGHTER (1939) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0031229/) - This is an early all black cast. The film is about a sister who comes home to Jamacia to take over her family home after her parents die, but her half sister wants to scare her away using voodoo. Nothing special here except it's a interesting piece of film history.

James Earl Jones' Dad acted in a lot of these --
The actor who played Andy on the TV "Amos & Andy" shows directed a lot of them too --
Some of these are really worth investigating, for the weirdness factor if nothing else -- There was a huge Black Cinema industry coexistant with white Hollywood from the '20's on --
Find some of these extrememly unique ilms at your more specialized video rental outlets --

Interestingly enough, or maybe not, James Earl Jones' father, Robert Earl Jones, just died last month at the age of 102. Robert Earl was a sharecropper and railroad worker before he went into boxing and acting. He also ran the NYC marathon, when he was 90 years old. I can't even imagine living to 90, let alone running a marathon at that age.
