Title: Election (1999)
Post by: Leah on February 15, 2011, 11:19:22 PM
This movie is just blatantly bad- there's the anti-evil (?) winning and the poor teacher, having conflicting emotions, only to be exaggerated as public idiot number one because of the two election cards. You feel bad for him and the s**t he goes through, while that, errr c**t of a b***h Tracy spying on him- seriously, she is a stalker; how else could she know about the teacher's life?  :buggedout: Seriously, I hate this movie because of said reasons, but also of heavy incest imagery!  GRRR, this movie just frustrates me to the extreme! :hatred:

Incest imagery?  I don't remember that.

Not technically incest, but I get what you're saying.  A teacher is sort of a substitute parent figure for a student.  And as I recall they definitely played up his guilt over seeing the girl's face when he was making love to his wife.  Maybe its more "pedophilia" than "incest," though.

I haven't seen the movie since it came out but I remember liking it.

Oh.  That's not incest at all, that's just a guy who's been married for a long time having fantasies.

Imagining the girl isn't pedophilia, either, since she's certainly not prepubescent.  Ephebophilia is attraction to those in late puberty.

How is that incest?

It wasn't a great movie by any means, but I can't imagine anybody actually hating it, as it wasn't a bad movie. Hating it because of thematic elements you don't agree with is something else, and that's okay. I personally didn't have a problem with the movie and kinda liked it.

Not sure if I'm in the minority here or not, but I am actually a big fan of this movie.  I wasn't expecting much out of it, but was pleasantly surprised with a nice little dark comedy.

I'm not a big fan of this movie but I liked it.  It has something for everyone.  Kids can relate to the high school characters, adults can relate to Broderick, his wife, et al.

I do not believe this film belongs in the same category as what this site is intended for. It seems to me that you dislike it purely for some moral objections to subject matter; not because it is a "bad movie".

I rather like Election and think it is a lot of fun.

I love this movie. One of my favorite black comedies. Broderick and Witherspoon are terrific as usual.
