Title: Anyone else sick of the royal wedding?
Post by: Dr. Strangelove on April 28, 2011, 05:47:38 PM
Really, I sure am. I don't know what kind of mindless, drooling imbecile it takes to really give a damn about something as ridiculous as a hereditary monarchy that's somehow lasted into the 21st century, but I am tired of the media treating this as news. I'm sick of hearing about it, I'm sick of the media pushing it constantly and I'm sick of the legions of idiots who consider this to be of interest.

In america, the media is subjecting us to more coverage of this asinine inanity that it gives to the face nearly 200 people have been killed by freak violent storms in the american heartland, or the fact the supreme court just made corporations in america even more immune to responsibility and accountability by stripping the public of the right to file class action lawsuits against them.

(In fact I wonder if the media is deliberately burying the last bit of news that just happens to be of importance to the public under this drivel to keep most people from hearing about it until they get hurt by big biz, go to file a lawsuit and find out the supreme court has essentially robbed them of any effective way to seek redress against a corporation.)

Also, am I the only one who thinks that " 'is majesty" kind of looks like a weasel with a receding hairline?

My TV came with a remote, so I'm good.

I dunno, I've watched my share of news, and really haven't really had an issue. This is no different that when Chuck & Di got married. There are plenty of news channels and sites, I'm not sure what else can be said. It'll be over in a couple days, BFD.

Likewise when I hear idiots around me blathering over this sort of drivel, I aim my remote at them and hit the mute button, but not a damned thing happens.

Yeah, that's annoying.  The nearest thing I can compare it to is when you're trying to read through a bad movies forum and some obnoxious poster keeps injecting their political agenda into every single post, no matter the topic.

Enjoy it, Doggett.

I had a huge crush on Princess Diana and I admit that I bawled my eyes out when she died. I wish William and Kate all the best, lots of love ~ and tons of kids ~ but the hype is getting a bit too much.

By epic party, he means loads of morons waving british flags and crying just because some rich stuffy people wanna put some rings on. Hopefully they'll all get sunburn...Thankfully, we ignore all this monarchy tripe up north.

I don't like people from England so no.  Oh wait.   :bluesad:

In all seriousness, couldn't they give that money to the people?  Do we really need a monarchy?

They cost less than 50 pence a year for every citizen.
I think it's a bargain.

And again - free food!

Long live Queen, wait a minute Freddie is dead!

Oh you mean that queen,I have to side with my fellow Northerner Circus, the Queen and all the rest of her freeloaders should be banished to pontins and made to play all those silly games that they make you play.

I don't really care about what the new "princess" wore or the 5th Earl of Crumpet sitting next to Harry Potter in the chapel, I just want to know one thing. Did they do the Chicken Dance at the reception?

My wife and daughter had a little party and watched the replay of it after school today. For a five-year-old girl, it was all pretty exciting and magical. My wife and I took the point of view that encouraging the kid's interest in real-world royalty might combat some of the Disney Princess BS her friends bombard her with. And we were able to work in sort of a fun history/geography lesson. Up to now, her knowledge of Britain has been largely based on imported BBC kids' shows and Mr. Bean.

And frankly, in our jaded society, I'm not going to fault anybody for getting excited about something. I'm getting sick of this attitude that being unimpressed all the time is somehow a sign of intelligence or coolness.

I'll shake your hand a thousand times over for THAT one.

I hear it all the time, how being excited is "gay" or "it's dumb", yadda yadda.  By and large I feel it's a sign of how insensitve we've become as a whole in regards to society.

It's some sort of badge of honor to be completely indifferent to anyone and everything around you and to feel nothing for anyone or anything unless they\it serve your purposes or interests.

It's very sociopathic and it's nothing but a false pretense. If intelligence means insensitivity, then count me out.

I know what you mean Andy. Maybe some people would class me as being that way, but in this instance it's fair to say that in the UK, we've had this rammed down our throats by the media and it is the no.1 topic of conversation. I'm not against people getting married or finding love or people celebrating events, I just can't be bothered watching people fawn over the rich and pointless. The royal family pretty much having no bearing on what happens in this country anymore and they are severely out of touch with the common man. I'm not trying to be "cool" or a smart-ass, I'm just being a disillusioned jerk.

I agree. The Royal Wedding-ok-they'er rich-they're getting married. Frankly-I don't care. I would get excited if my sister was getting married...but not this.
And it's not a matter of being "cool". Hell-I don't think anyone on this board is worried about being "cool". The fact that we are here, posting on the BAD Movie forum says alot as far as going with the flow of "cool". Gawd-I wish I was cool! Thing is-it's just not that interesting. I would rather see a movie or go to a yard sale than the Royal Wedding. It's just BORING. I just don't give a dam. I'ts fodder for tabloids read by 70 year old spinsters.

Having read the last two posts by Circus Circus and RC, I would like to return part of my statement about how being unimpressed is somehow a sign of sociopathy or self-serving attitude.

Not all people are like that.  I was referring to some people, but not all, and least of all Circus Circus or RC.  Sorry if I came off that way.

I forget that, in some cases,  as both CC and RC have said, the media of other countries has the same way of forcing things on their countrymen as the American media does so well over here.

I will say though, that in today's society, that any storybook moment like the Royal Wedding is welcome, because such pageantry simply dosen't exist anymore. Even as we know that the world goes on no matter what, it was a sight to behold the magic of the Old World for one brief, shining moment.

I wish Lord William and Lady Katherine MANY years of happiness and love, and may they have many kids to fill the void that Queen Elizabeth and Sirs Phillip and Charles will eventually create with their passing.

This Yank tips his hat to England,  raises his  glass and says "God Save The Queen."

    Rock on!
