Title: anyone else working on Christmas?
Post by: bob on December 22, 2015, 11:21:35 AM
I'm working from 3-10 PM, meaning I'll spend maybe 2 hours with the family before heading to work on the holiday.

Anyone having to do this?

Not this year, but I have in the past.
Used to be an ad stuffer at the local paper. Got tired of showing up for late for family dinners smelling like newspapers & sweat.

Nowadays, It depends on whether or not it's Wednesday, & it's just a couple hours behind a microphone.

I'm working Christmas Eve delivering Amazon same day. it's been light ish lately though. During the holidays they give alot of it to USPS, so hopefully will be done more or less in time for dinner

I work from home and I'm on call overnight the 25th into the 26th.  I was originally going to have to be on call the 24th into the 25th but another team member came along and asked if any of us wanted off so I took him up on his offer.  Hopefully with it being Christmas the activity will be minimal and I'll be able to sleep at night but if something happens I'll get called and have to be on then.  Since most of the family activities take place on the 24th and the day on the 25th I don't really care about having to be on call overnight on the 25th/26th.

I've worked both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in the past but always managed to finagle it so I could have the evening of the 24th off and just work 2nd shift on the 25th.

I always try to be as accommodating as I can throughout the year, working extra shifts when extra help is needed and so on so that when there's times I want to be off then I can get the time without too much hassle.

Our firm is closed from 12/24/15 - 01/07/16. We only worked 4 hours today, and my boss bought pizza for us all

Workin' 3-11 (1500-2300) in the radio room dispatching police to the most crime infested precinct in our city. Lots of domestics, baby mamma drama, stabbings, fights, shootings, robberies, drunk and disorderlies, prostitution, and other beloved Christmas Day traditions for me.

On the other hand we'll be eating till we explode - so there's that.

I've never had to work on Christmas before the last few days I've found the prospect of doing this very depressing.  :bluesad:

I kinda miss helping out on WRIR's Christmas Day Interfaith Special...
Not that I'd listen to anything anybody was saying, but that it's the kind of work that's more invigorating than taxing...

Pretty much turned out how I expected - not a single call last night into today.  Got to sleep most of the time.

A poem I wrote late on Christmas Eve:

T'was the night before Christmas
And all through West Chatham
All the people were fighting
And shooting guns if they had 'em.

The restaurant I work at was a mad house on Christmas. I've never seen it that busy. One customer said she appreciated us being open today and thanked me for working today, which really took a bit of the sting out of having to work. I'm surprised I got out only 30 minutes after I was scheduled to.

I'm getting my pay check for that time period on Friday so I'll see the fruits of my labor on that day and then decide if being miserable that I was wasn't with my family was worth it, not that I had any say on if I was working that day but eh.
