Title: Cinema Sins reviews Troll 2... and LOVES it!
Post by: AoTFan on December 07, 2016, 08:20:02 PM
This is an interesting video.

First, some background: Cinema Sins is a webchannel that reviews movies and keeps a running tally of the various "sins" in the film (each new sin accompanied by a chime sound).  A lot of the sins are plot oversights and continuity errors, but the narrator has several things that seem to annoy him in general that he always adds to the tally (excessive logo lengths, unnecessary voice overs, reading, etc).  The movies are a lot of fun though and many sins aren't meant to be taken seriously (such as the running gags of "That's racist."  and "(Blank) is not my girlfriend in this scene.")  Occasionally though, when a movie does something really awesome, CS will knock off a couple sins to acknowledge how cool it was.

I was shocked when I discovered that they reviewed the film Troll 2 and could NOT find anything wrong with it.  In fact, the guy kept taking sins off pointing out all kinds of a subtle nuances, symbolism, and bits of brilliance most people totally missed.  It was enough to convert me to a believer!

P.S. If you're still confused, goto the Youtube and read when the clip was published.  :)

I've saw 5 mins of the Youtube video and was impressed on the number of sport times in the boy's room. I'll watch the video later today because I don't have sound at work.

As for Troll 2... It's freaking awesome because it seemed that nobody was aware how bad the special effects and/or how bad the story was written. Usually, stories like these, the director knows and purposeful exploits it - which makes those type of stories terrible to watch.

Claudio Fragasso, the director and co-writer of Troll 2, has no concept of what works or doesn't work. Just watch some of his other films (Hell of the Living Dead, Zombi 3, Beyond Darkness).

If you watch the documentary Best Worst Movie, some of the people who starred in the film realized the script had some problems and thought the special effects were iffy, but dear Claudio "knew" better. The cast were basically tickled to be be in a real movie, so they did the best they could with what they had. Of course, it wasn't like the cast was full of seasoned professionals.

In this one case, hacks and noobs came together to create something magically awful and entertaining at the same time.

Interesting note about that, one guy, Don Packart, the pharmacy store owner (you know, the one who offers the kid free Nilbog milk) was literally out on a day pass from a mental institution.

Fortunately, he seems to be doing better now.

Another neat fact, the main actor George Hardy got the part from reading the "p**s on hospitality" scene.  He did in front of about five Italian guys (none of whom spoke English!)  They just liked the "energy" he put into a part.

These are concepts I talked about during our podcast on Troll 2... the others were loosing it when I brought up parallels/references to the Odyssey, nature vs. nurture, and modern society vs. pagan/alternative lifestyles. Of course, I always reach/theorize, and try to make connections (years of studying Literature will do that to you).

Although the execution was terrible, I found it fun to try to make these connections. Often called the worst movie ever, but those folks haven't seen Santa With Muscles lol.

This was a fun watch, that's for sure -a perfect starter/introduction to bad movies, especially in a group setting with lots of beers. Wish they made Troll 2 part 2.

Edited to add: I think the title of this film is prophetic in a sense, as it's trolling the viewing audience.
