Who do you think would have won a prime fight?

My vote would be 100% Tyson!

Imo "prime Mike Tyson" was the best fighter of all time...

Tyson was an absolute tank.  His workout regimen was crazy tough but it paid off.  Any time he stepped into the ring I immediately felt bad for the other guy.  He had a mean attitude to match.  But I am glad he got served some humility by Douglas and Holyfield.  Yeah, I'd definitely take him over Ali in the prime of their careers.  Ali would have him beat in reach and height, but Tyson was just tougher IMHO.

I dunno...
By the time he changed his name to Muhammad Ali & got out of prison for not going to Nam, he he he was past his prime, so he wouldn't have gone for the KO in the first three, he'd have gone for the rope-a-dope & held out for an opening on Tyson's part.

Now, if it had been in his Cassius Clay days, he'd have been all over the mat.

What about Tyson Vs Jack Johnson?
Now there was a guy who didn't like to lose!

Between Tyson and Ali, I'd have to go with Tyson.

Ali had the better speed and footwork, but Tyson was just a monster.

I'll go with my hometown boy Ali.

Tyson would have to knock him out quick to have a chance.

This guy does a long analysis of the question: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/582929-mike-tyson-versus-muhammad-alian-in-depth-analysis-of-who-would-really-win

He concludes Ali was exactly the kind of fighter Tyson would have the most trouble with: tall with a long reach and not afraid of him.

Also, Ali could play mind games with Tyson.

Not 100% sure, but I think boxers in Ali’s generation fought a lot more often than Tyson’s era. I could see Ali using his rope-a-dope to wear out Tyson and then turning around and hammering Tyson. Might not win by a KO, but I could see him taking a points victory easily.

The training videos that former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has been releasing on social media weren’t just for show, it turns out. Yahoo Sports has learned from multiple sources that Tyson plans to return to boxing to face Roy Jones Jr. on Sept. 12 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Andy Foster, the executive director of the California State Athletic Commission, confirmed that Tyson has put a hold on that date. Foster told Yahoo Sports that he met with Tyson and Jones via Zoom recently and that the fight will be an exhibition.

They won’t be wearing headgear, but will be wearing larger than normal gloves. Foster said he believed they’d wear 12 ounce gloves.

“This isn’t a situation where they’re going out there to try to take each other’s heads off,” Foster told Yahoo Sports. “They’re just going to be in there moving around the ring and letting fans see these legends.”

Tyson hasn’t fought since losing to Kevin McBride on June 11, 2005. Jones hasn’t fought since Feb. 8, 2018. Tyson is 54 and Jones is 51.

Foster said there had been talk that there would have been a boxing match between former world champion James Toney and former UFC champion Tito Ortiz on the undercard, but said Ortiz told him it wasn’t going to happen.

Foster confirmed to Yahoo Sports that he expects YouTube star Jake Paul to fight ex-NBA player Nate Robinson on the undercard.

After Yahoo Sports’ initial report of the story, Tyson posted a video on his Instagram page in which he announced the formation of the Legends Only League, which he said will include athletes from a number of sports. He didn’t specify how they will compete.

But interest in Tyson’s return to boxing skyrocketed earlier this year when Tyson released training sessions with noted MMA coach Rafael Cordeiro in which he was hitting the mitts. That stoked rumors of a comeback.

However, this isn’t expected to lead to a regular series of fights against currently active boxers.

This post reminds me of something from a number of years ago. Someone wanting to know who was the greatest heavyweight champion of all time, took the statistics of all the heavyweight champions from John L. Sullivan to Muhammad Ali, who was the heavyweight champion at that time, ran them thru a computer simulation, and then taking what film footage was available, ran an elimination tournament, pitting one champion against another.

I don't remember who won, but I do remember that Ali was in the finals and came in 2nd to whoever did win. I think I remember that because Ali complained that he should have won, and that the only reason he did not win was that the tournament was stacked against him winning.

If something like that was done today, who'd win?

That story is ringing a bell. I think the winner was Rocky Marciano.

And I think you are correct, Alex. Rocky Marciano does ring a bell as to who won.
