Title: Killer grandmas film?
Post by: Luke Bannon on June 26, 2002, 01:28:24 PM
Correct my if I'm wrong, but did Troma make a film about killer grandmas or something like that?

Luke,

Yes.  It was called Rabid Grannies.  Not as bad as it could have been but not as good either.  The makeup for the grannies was so silly and they didn't resemble grannies anymore whatsoever.  For a Troma movie you could do much worse, like, A Nymphoid Barbarian In Dinosaur Hell, which is definitely the worst movie I've seen, beating out even Adam Sandler's Billy Madison.

               Retro Shiley out.

Rabid Grannies was boring.  I like other killer granny movies like The Granny, American Gothic, and.....no, wait, I hated all three of those.  I can't think of a good killer granny movie.

"Rabid Grannies" is a heavily underrated, modern Eurotrash classic, since it takes the shocks of both "The Evil Dead" and Jean Rollin-inspired carnage to new, more extreme heights.
The grannies are actually aunties,by the way,who happily slaughter the corrupt members of their devious family.
You're probably have to cruise the video dealer table market for the uncut, unrated version, since the one that's been released by Troma(mainly on Media Home Entertainment)is the heavily cut R-rated version, although I haven't had a chance at seeing Troma's own video re-release,which claims to restore all of the gore to their new print.
And,like Lightning Video's release of "House By The Cemetery",and A-Pix Entertainment's R-rated version of "Baby Blood"("The Evil Within")Media's "Rabid Grannies" cut also has several scenes that are in the wrong places.

I bought a copy of the unrated director's cut from Troma (at least that's what it says), and it didn't seem like the narrative was missing anything.  I dunno, just didn't do it for me. I'll watch it again before I decide to sell it or something, but.....
