Okay, what sick f*** thought THIS (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0261281) up? Wasn't the first sequel bad enough? Did it actually generate enough money to provoke another? Hell, the first movie, regardless of its undeniable quality, tanked miserably at the box office; only the ridiculous "Megaforce" made less money that year if I recall correctly. (It did make it up in video sales. But come ON...)
I here by deny any knowledge of THAT FILM. I did not see it listed there, I read nothing of its plot. It does not exist. It does not exist...
One would have thought after the RASH of Disney sequels nothing could SURPRISE or APPALL me about animated films. But this...this… oooo... Gahh! urg!
Nope. Won't dwell on it. Nopers.

Hollywood is making a CHILDREN OF THE CORN 8, a LEPRECHAUN: BACK IN THE HOOD, a WISHMASTER 4, and possibly an American Idol movie, yet here you are complaining about an animated rat? Get your priorities straight, bucko! :)
The movies you listed are all horror movies ( American Idol excepted, though the thought horrifes me.) Horror movies have, for years, had sequel after countless braindead sequel. It's expected, sad to say.
Animated movies should be above this, by God.
Well they SHOULD!
When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was about a new project from the director of Jeepers Creepers.
Anyway, I never saw the Secret of Nimh, but I do have fond memories of the book on which it was based. Had a grade 5 teacher who read Mrs. Frisbee, Watership Down and the John Christopher tripod trilogy to his class every year. I enjoyed all of them. Over the past 20-odd years, I've seen some pretty disappointing adaptations of the latter two.
When it comes to movies based on a literary classic, I think it is sacrilege to start moneying with the story and making up new adventures to make a buck. This goes for all of the classics that disney has tainted with sequels. Come to think of it, they tainted a few classics without a sequel, just too much creative licence.

Who? What? Where? -- There's a film adaptation of the tripod trilogy?!?!?
I have this feeling that the film in question could be lumped together with "The NeverEnding Story III."
The first movie was pretty darn good (and I also liked the book), but the second was darn awful. It seems like, lately, I have been delving into the realm of bad childrens' movies way too often. Some are amusing, like "Suburban Commando," but the others are pure pain.

The BBC (I think) produced a series on the Tripod Series. It only goes as far as the second book, I'm afraid. I remember liking it when it was on PBS (during my misspent youth.)

That's right, I did a bit of checking around after seeing your post. It's available on VHS and DVD, but only on Pal from the UK. Fortunately I have a Pal-NTSC DVD player though, so I may have to pick it up.
As I recall, you should expect high end Doctor Who special effects. Unless I misremember, it was recorded on tape.
Still, I remember liking it a great deal.
Title? Year? Details please! I always wanted to see it made into a movie(s) but was worried about how it would turn out.
Dude, do what we all do: search the IMDB. (http://www.imdb.com) I'd provide a direct link, but you may want to see both entries. NOTE: if you're outside Region 2 but have a region-free DVD player or a spare you can set to 2, Amazon.co.uk can get you the DVD set. See the IMDB pages for the link.
Um yeah, but what is the title to search for. I haven't read the books in 20 years, forget what they're called.
... Is called Tripods. Sorry for not making that clear. The IMDb page is here (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0088298)
Like I said earlier, it only goes as far as the second book.
Thanks!
I guess now it is too late to finish that series (the actors have all aged, and I don't want to start lining up new folks with the old cast.) Maybe someday someone will come along and do the whole series.
Count me in as one of the people disappointed that they never finished it. I'd never even heard of the books, I just stumbled across the first episode one night and was hooked. It was during pledge season, so during the breaks, one of the incentives to donate was a copy of the trilogy. Then they started on the second season and I was really getting into it. Then it just ended. I call up a friend who keeps up with British SF shows and he tells me they never made a third season!
I propose new laws for TV shows;
1. If a show has a story arc, the show must be allowed to finish that arc before being taken off the air.
2. No season finale may end with a cliffhanger unless the show is guaranteed to be renewed or the network will be required to film and air the conclusion to the cliffhanger.
3. Networks must air all episodes of a show that are produced, or offer copies on tape for a small fee. This also applies to shows from other countries that a channel starts showing here.
