*raises my hand*  I have up to Volume 3.  Hokuto no Ken has to go down as probably my favorite anime/manga series of all time.

Dear God--I thought for a moment that you were talking about the live-action movie. Now my eyes won't stop bleeding.

Finally some respones! I have not seen the live action movie (and that sounds like a pretty good idea) I'm hoping the 4th graphic novel will be in this week at my comic store. Fans of the First of the North Star rejoice!

I suggest only watching (if you are really curious) the live-action film if you can find it on TV.  That's how I watched it and I'm glad I did.  There's so many things wrong with it, it's impossible to know where to begin.  Plus, Kenshiro with a mullet.....all the manga Kenshiro would have to say about that is "Omaiwamo shinderu" before killing Gary Daniels.

I saw the live movie on HBO I think six years ago that was one stupid so called action movie. I like ths cartoon better sometimes Showtime SciFi show it still got the old Nintendo game of it too.

Every "North Star" fan should watch the live-action movie (http://www.ohthehumanity.com/reviews/rev102.html) at least (but only) once.  (Click link for review from "Oh The Humanity!")

Con: This is the wimpiest variation of Ken I've seen. Worse than "Agent D" from "Project A-Ko," complete with her hairdo and school outfit and mismatched voice. She's a LOT more threatening than Gary Daniels, who consistently looks confused and worried--even when he's supposed to be enraged.

Con: Malcolm McDowell (as an Old Ben Kenobi bootleg figure), Downtown Julie Brown, Melvin Van Peebles, and Clint Howard as..."Stalin."

Pro: Occasionally true to the manga; that is, there's a scene in which Ken gets a constellation-shaped scar on his chest, and there's the rapid-fire-tsubo-finger-poking bit--which looks totally stupid when Gary Daniels does it.

Con: Exploding heads and guts take place offscreen. One guy has been running around forever with his head held together by leather straps; the payoff? Not shown.

Pro: While most dramatic moments from the original manga and anime are written off in favor of a Hollywood ending, that annoying little bastard brat sidekick--he's a LOT more annoying in live-action, believe me--gets taken down to room temperature.( Amazingly, no one important to the story--like Ken--is around to see it, and it's never mentioned again, so no one who might care even knows about it--which means it has NO dramatic impact whatsoever, becuase he's so loathsome. Is that brilliant filmmaking, or what?)

Pro: At the end of one fight scene, one baddie flops around like a fish. Hooray! Finally, a scene that provokes an emotional response other than "I'm sleepy" and "You suck!"

Yeah, when he tries to do the Hyakkretsu Ken, I was almost expecting the baddies to walk off laughing.  Maybe we can consider this Kenshiro as the retarded cousin who drools a lot.

So Todd Phillips, Squishy, Darkwolf and myself all like Fist of the North Star. ALL RIGHT! To any one that likes the live action movie I won't dis you. I mean I know what it's like to like a movie that every one else hates. I actually enjoy the live action Guyver movies! Isn't that sad!?

Wow! Another person that likes the Guyver Movies, i'm not alone!
wow another person that hates the Guyver movies.
I like the First Guyver movies because I saw it when I was about 10 and thought it was the coolest movie ever so i'm kinda use to the bad humor. And even though I saw the second movie when I was 13 I like just because it's kinda well done. But I still like the first one more and I like the anime/manga more than the movies.

I like both, but I like the suit in the first one better. I've never seen the anime version.

Both live action costumes are ok with me, but have you ever noticed how in the first movie the Guyvers horn thing randomly sticks up or goes down in the movie.

>Both live action costumes are ok with me,

I liked the coloring of the first costume better than then the blue one in the second movie.

>but have you ever noticed how in the first movie the Guyvers horn thing randomly
>sticks up or goes down in the movie.

Not really, although I did notice that when it was up it was much longer than when it was down. (insert your own penis joke here)

I'm gonna take a stand and defend the FotNS live action movie.  Yeah, it was far from perfect.  Sure, it probably could've been better.  And yes, there have been a lot better live action movies (the Guyvers, as already mentioned).  But I still love the FotNS live action movie.  Now this is probably because I enjoy the anime very much, and I'm a big fan of Gary Daniels.  I think Daniels did an admirable job at playing Kenshiro.  He wasn't terrific, but he wasn't bad.  Sure, he's always got that worried look on his face, but the guy is an incredible martial artist.  For proof of this, check out Bloodmoon.  I'm sure there are other guys that could've done a better job than Daniels, but he did an OK job, IMO.  I can only complain about the lack of gore, considering that was a big part of the anime, and has a lot to do with the uniquness of the fighting style.  Also, the casting of this movie cracked me up.  Downtown Julie Brown, Chris Penn, Malcolm McDowell, Clint Howard, Big Van Vader of former WWF fame.. the list simply goes on and on.  I didn't take the movie too seriously, and I ended up liking it.  I know 99% of everyone will disagree with me on this, but I had to defend the flick, as well as Gary Daniels, who doesn't usually get the respect he deserves.

Then again, it's probably just one of my guilty pleasures.

Nick
