Title: The Shaft
Post by: TC on May 16, 2003, 10:34:41 PM
This movie has a street date of May 20th, although apparently it was made in 2001.   Honestly, this movie is so horribly bad and ridiculous, it's funny.  It stars Naomi Watts....Now, I looked it up on imdb.com and it has a different title.   I get the feeling they changed the name to "The Shaft" to make it sound like "The Ring".  Anyways, it's a remake by the director of a movie he did about 10 years earlier.  And what is this movie about?  An evil, killer elevator inside a large skyrise building in New York.  Yes, that's right.  A killer elevator.  Also interesting about this movie are references to terrorism, Osama Bin Laden, and the twin towers (they reference not 9/11 but a previous attempted terrorism attack on the building).   Although long at 109 minutes, it's so ridiculous that your attention never wanes.  I've seen reviews at imdb.com, so I'm not sure if had a theatrical release in the U.S or if it was just released in Europe.  I'm intersted if anyone else has seen it.

Yeah, I saw it,and I kinda liked it. I've seen the origional (called "The Lift") and that was amazingly crappy. This version was funny in parts, had some surprisingly "big" names (Michael Ironside, Ron Perlman, Dan Hedaya and  Edward Herrmann) and was pretty watchable. Of course, considering that I watched it on the same weekend as Monsturd, I may be a little biased.

I'm looking forward to this.  Then again, I'm looking forward to seeing Dr. Jekyll and Mistress Hyde with Misty Mundae as "the college patient".
