Elmer Gantry leap of faith the apostle any others where good preachers go bad? I am sad to say at a loss. On the other hand, check out the manga "Priest," which is just incredible and has a monumentally evil preacher as its protagonist.

Charles Laughton's only directorial effort, surreal and creepy!! Gotta see it! After viewing, try to name all the films in which Winters meets a watery end!!
Five Card Stud (1968) - Mitchum again plays a dodgy clergymen in this old west murder mystery. Mitchum and Dean Martin investigate as each member of an ill-fated poker game meet a suspicious death. Kinda slow, not much mystery, but okay flick. Bonus...Roddy Mcdowall dies!!! The Wrath Of God (1972) - In keeping with my Robert Mitchum as Violent Man of The Cloth theme. Mitchum poses as a tommy gun toting priest during a Latin-American revolution. Action filled spoof as Mitchum lampoons the "Steely-eyed, Man of Destiny" role he has played numerous times in many Latin-American revolution movies. Funny and brisk. The Left Hand Of God (1955) - Bogart is a priest (or is he?) in war torn China. Swearing, two-fisted, pistol packing pontiff, goes up against evil warlord. One of Bogie's last films, not really one of his best, but still quite enjoyable. |
