Title: 'The Flight of the Navigator' is so retarded
Post by: Alan Smithee on April 29, 2006, 07:02:25 PM
I've seen bits and pieces over the years and finally saw it in it's entirety on the 'Family Channel'. They could've gotten someone less annoying than Paul Rubens for the voice of the spaceship (Pee Wee herman was really popular then, I guess). The movie is purely juvenile. The child actor seened so coached. Even while 'E.T.'  was geared essentially for kids,  it wasn't an insult to an adult's intelligence.
'The Flight of the Navigator is watchable, but lame.

I spotted someone viewing this topic and felt it needed to be brought back since no one replied to it.

I loved this film!
I thought it had a very interesting premise and was well written.
A kid disappears in the late 1970's and is never heard from since.
Then, in the mid 1980's, he reappears with no memory of the time when he was gone.
He was abducted by aliens who uploaded star charts into his head and now the alien needs him and the info in his head to get back home.
So they go on a wild ride avoiding government officials...and David has almost total control of the ship.

I liked this because I was David's age when this movie was released so I guess I could always more closely identify with it.
This is great sci-fi mixed with a family movie.
I give it a definite

That, and the alien ship was really cool!
