I just added to my collection the newly-released DVD of this hilariously AWFUL trash classic.  (IMDB list the following alternate titles for this movie):

* Duel of the Space Monsters (UK)
* Frankenstein Meets the Space Men
* Mars Attacks Puerto Rico
* Mars Invades Puerto Rico
* Operation San Juan

An android astronaut named Frank becomes "Frankenstein" when his face is partially melted by an alien.  The leaders of the alien invaders are Princess Marcuzan (who is dressed like an Egyptian princess), and Dr. Nadir (a bald guy with pointy ears who keeps saying, "And now, maximum power!")  The aliens' master plan is to kidnap earth women (often wearing bikinis) and use them for "breeding stock."

The hero is a young James Karen (the gray-haired warehouse guy from RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD).  One of the aliens (also bald, with pointed ears) is played by character actor Bruce Glover (who was one of the gay hit men in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER)!

The acting, sets, and dialogue are SUPER bad, but the WORST thing about this movie is the make-up on the bald heads and pointy ears.  Every time they show a close-up of the aliens, you can clearly see where the real skin ends and the make-up begins.  It looks like lumpy papier-mache or something.

This movie gets a 10 on the "stink-o-meter."  Pure entertainment!

Wow! That looks worse than The Hand of Death... I'm almost intimidated.

I love in IT CAME FROM HOLLYWOOD when they show clips from this and Dan Ackroyd refers to the alien leaders as "Mr. Spock's brother Shecky and his wife, Shirley."

I remember that! I loved the scene from First Man into Space, narrated by Gilda Radner. It's Chuck! It's Chuck!

I've read about this film in a magazine and in a sci-fi book years ago and would like to see this one. I'll have to put it on my list.

Memory- back in the early 70's there was a late nite show called DOUBLE CREATURE FEATURE on UHF channel28 from Indiana somewhere.Anyway,it would start out with a still of the Space Monster and creepy music with a Boris sound alike annoucing that nights movies...I would have never seen such classic double bills as Night of the Blood Beast and Astro Zombies .Would LOVE to see F.vs.S.M. though. It even has Clu Galagher from Return of the Living Dead in his first role! WOW!!!

RC:

Actually, Clu Gulager is not in it.  However, James Karen from RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD is the star.

Yeah! My brain has so much totally worthless info in it things kinda slide off the shelf. The Space Monster should have his own model kit...he looks really trippy.
