Title: You know what video game should be made into a movie?
Post by: Andrew on July 25, 2006, 05:36:00 PM
"Yars' Revenge."

Hey, they could cast Keanu Reeves as the valiant pilot of the Yars' insect ship.  Even better, the interface can have some sort of biological input and feedback.  Think "Videodrome" crossed with "LEXX."

I still own one of the old Atari 2600 systems and yes, I still play Yars Revenge.
Fun game!

I'd definitely go see Yars Revenge The movie.

Is the game where you fight the inside of a monster, and the first level is it's mouth?

Sure it could work.

Not sure Dave.

Here's the cartridge pic:

And here's a shot of the game:

Trust me...it's more fun than it looks.

To those who thought it couldn't be done... well, it can't, but this sure looks fun anyway!

Pacman The Movie Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWL6j0SvqV0)

I love how they mix in the orginal theme into the trailer.  Fun stuff.

Yep, but it is a pity he shoots the ghosts instead of eating them.

Until Doom came along, I would've said Contra... Hmm, maybe Rampage.

I think the Wizard of Wor.   Laser rifles vs magic monsters.

Why not Bionic Commando?  A supersoldier with a telescopic arm who is fighting against a ressurected Hitler!  That's box office gold!

Are you thinking of Abadox (http://www.flyingomelette.com/reviews/nes/abadox.html)?  Or Life Force (http://www.flyingomelette.com/reviews/nes/lifeforce.html)?

Both those games are pretty good.

I think I have to agree with that.  It's a bad movie goldmine premise.....

Title: Bionic Commando, eh?
Post by: Inyarear on August 07, 2006, 03:16:35 PM
Hmmm... Yeah, it's got all the classic men's pulp novel stuff... except for pretty women. With all the wussiness of late, we could do with a strictly all-guys testosterone-laden film, though.

I've just thought of another old NES game that could be done as a movie:

Arch-Rivals

Basketbrawl comes to the big screen. In the satirical style of Death Race 2000, this is a tale of a near future in which, as a gimmick to boost ratings, a TV network hires the world's worst hockey players to play basketball, the most bubble-headed girls it can find to be the cheerleaders, and little legally blind guys to be the referees. Then it casually distributes a new rulebook to the various teams with all the regulations against fighting carefully ripped out. In spite of considerable squawking from the usual groups about the crassness and tastelessness of the whole venture, it becomes a crowd-pleasing event that makes the network executives millions. As things spin out of control, competing TV networks form Basketbrawl leagues of their own to keep their ratings steady and eventually even the death of one of the players fails to bring the game to a halt. Thus, in a downbeat reversal of other movies about blood sports, this story ends with everyone corrupted, rather than with a cleansing of corruption.

That's a bit of an understatement Freep............

You're thinking of Abadox: The Inner War I believe.

And yeah, that could actually make an interesting horror/sci-fi movie.  At the very least, it was a great concept for a game - an enormous alien comes to EAT the Earth, and you have to fight your way into its body to kill it.

I weep just a tiny bit when I think that Duke Forever never happened.  But it would be a great movie...babes, bullets and bombs.  AND great catch phrases.

Ed,

You never know man.  George Broussard still claims that 3DRealms is working on it.  I wouldn't have believed him six months ago, but they did FINALLY release Prey which has been in development since around the same time as DNF.  Prey is actually really really good, so I hope DNF will be...if it is ever released.

You could always opt for the little stick figure from "Questron."  That would be the perfect part for several actors I can think of.

A live action "Dig Dug" movie could be quite the disturbing film.  Man, talk about fetish.  "I want to go in the backyard, dig until I find a strange underground world, then inflate the dangerous creatures that infest it."

My pet project is to write a script for "Tetris". So far I have the scenario (future) and the rules (two people in the arena throwing bricks at each other). Dolph Lundgren and Paul W. Anderson have expressed their interest.

So "Bionic Commando" had a plot? OMG, so that's what kept me from finishing the game back in the early 90s... I'd like to see a film out of "North & South", but I don't know if American audiences would like to see their Civil War played for laughs.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_and_south for details.

I can just see it now.  In the middle of a tense action sequence, a native American steps into the scene, wings a tomahawk at a random character and leaves again, followed shortly by a Mexican who does the same thing with a stick of dynamite...

...And a dramatic camera sweep over a battlefield filled with corpses from the defeated army is interrupted by a "corpse" standing up and saluting the camera crew.
