Title: "May"
Post by: Fearless Freep on July 30, 2006, 12:09:11 PM
Last night I watched May (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303361/), a weird, low budget horror movie.  Usually when you think 'low budget' and ''horror' you're tending to think 'cheap expoitative and cliched slasher' but this is not like that at all.  I'ts a well told story with an interesting set of characters.  One thing about it is that the protagonists whom with sympahize with is also the murderer, and yet the victims are not really bad people.  Although there are some gory, slasher elements, they do come later in the movie and why and how they come about is as unsettling as what they actually are

Nathan has a good review here (http://www.coldfusionvideo.com/m/may.html), and in fact it was Nathan's review that led me to rent this one.

I already have that one in my queue.  I'll be looking forward to it, and may (hehe) have to bump it up.

Fantastic film.  I own this on DVD and highly recommend it to anyone.

Ebert gave it 4 out of 4 stars.
Read his review here (http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20030606/REVIEWS/306060303/1023)

A wondeful film, and a very original one. Sort of a female version of "Donnie Darko". Very disturbing, but brilliantly done. If you enjoy it, director Lucky McKee and Angela Bettis re-teamed for an episode of "Masters of Horror" called "Sick Girl", and it's lots of fun.

No, "Donnie Darko" was just "we haven't a clue what we are doing so let's just be weird and let the buzz and hype try to fill in what we really aren't going to put the time into resolving"  "May" was much better constructed and more intelligent

May is quite good.  Rented it a couple of years ago on a whim.

Loved the end of the film - extremely creepy.  If I'm not mistaken there is a psuedo-sequel with Lucky McKee in the "May" role with Angela Bettis directing.  I'll have to imdb that sometime.
