Title: Laugh-out-loud bad movies
Post by: Alan Smithee on October 05, 2006, 09:01:45 PM
There are bad movies that are almost good, but for some reason don't make the cut. And then there are bad movies that are so out-right bad- they are so funny they can rival comedies. My nomination is "Frankenstein Island- yours is...

Oh, I'm such a classicist on this subject:
Phil Tucker's "Robot Monster" can always get a chuckle or a hoot out of me, even after seeing it multiple times.
"They Saved Hitler's Brain" -- Really, I defy anyone not to spew their cola out their noses when that head in the jar on the front seat starts going "Mach Schnell!!  Mach Schnell!!" appropos of nothing at all --
I don't feel like putting up a long post -- these 2 classic Bad Films have enough laughs in them to last and last . . .

Ozzymandias speak: Maniac (from the 30s) and Rats Are Comming, the Werewolves are Here. Of course, Plan 9 From Outer Space.

Dracula 3000 made me break out in hysterics, along with mostly everything SciFi or ASSylum spews out the hole.

Plot: Feeling burned-out, rock musician Jason Jones signs up with a backstreet package holiday firm who send him to Brittlehurst Manor, a countryside sanitarium run by Dr Christian Storm who promises to overcome any hangup within a week. But there Jason and the niece of Storm's wife discover that Storm is turning other inmates into computer-controlled zombies and that he hunts down all who try to escape in his deadly Rolls Royce.

RollerBlade.
In a post-apocalyptic society, a group of nymphoid ninja nuns on roller skates must battle a psychotic hand puppet. (No, really!)

Don't forget Rollerblade Warriors: Taken by Force, The Rollerblade Seven, Legend of the Rollerblade Seven, and Return of the Rollerblade Seven. The Donald G. Jackson Rollerblade saga.

Only seen lilcerberus' film and RW:TBF. I agree they are laugh worthy. From the comments at IMDB the rest of the series is barely even a collect of scene strung together and called films. With cast members like William Smith, Karen Black, Joe Estevez, Frank Stallone, and Rhonda Shear appearing in several of them they must be classics waiting for rediscovery.

Frankenstein Conquers the World always gives me the giggles.

Rabid is the one I've most recently seen.  My take on it is in my other thread.

I heartily agree with you there, I have to wonder if it was an intentional "kaiju comedy"... so goofy and nonsensical it makes Godzilla vs. Monster Zero looks like masterpiece theater. Some others:

The Manster- Drinking, sour men & mindless murdeous fun with bad makeup effects. What do you expect from a Japanese/American coproduction?

The Haunted Palace & Master of the World- Two Roger Corman/ Vincent Price collaborations that make leave you wondering why Price never got outed back in the day.

Dracula (I'm sorry Bela fans, this one cracks me up. Renfield really chews the scenery...)

Boy...I missed alotta cool threads while offline...this was one of them.
SOUL VENGANCE- some black dude goes to prison, and gains the power to make his johnson grow, which he uses to STRANGLE honkies!
BLOODFREAK-A guy smokes pot, eats a turkey pumped up with some weird drug, and turns into a blood drinking ,gobbling,turkey-head monster. But,threw the power of prayer(!) he reverts to his big dumbass self. Some of the very worst acting EVER. And the director,(Brad Grinter)  pops on and off on screen with a bunch of philisophical babble just to make it even more insane.
ASTRO ZOMBIES-Watching a goofy-ass zombie in a skull helmut running amok while holding a flashlight to his head (his power source,of course) and John Carridine mumbling psedeo-scientific gobbledy gook is a laff riot.
HORRORS of SPIDER ISLAND- WOW. I...I...well...this deserves a whole review in itself. Actually,Andrew did a great on it! BIZZARE.
I could go on this thread forever....

I felt the same way the whole time I was in Iraq; like I was missing everything.

The section in "Astro-Zombies" with the one construct stumbling down the street, flashlight held to its solar receptor, was amazingly bad.  You cannot help but to laugh at something that stupid.

"Horrors of Spider Island?"  I have seen it, but not reviewed it yet.  Maybe The Horror of Party Beach? (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/horrorparty/index.html)  Spider Island is painfully slow and dumb, while Party Beach is a blast to watch.  It manipulates some of the same elements, but gets the formula correct.

I remember seeing Ted V. Mikels on The Incredibly Strange Film Show, he acted rather proud of the flashlight to the solar panel sequence. He considered it a practical solution to a problem such a creation would face in the real world. Or how about not using solar power on an artifical being that will get used a lot at night, unless you have really powerful batteries with lots of storage capacity.

But if he hadn't done it we wouldn't have such a classic bad movie moment.

What to choose, what to choose....
THE GIANT CLAW is a goodie. If you play the "A bird...a bird as big as a battleship" drinking game, you will be passed out in the popcorn about the time Mitch blows up the lab.

ah, the power of flying cheese! The U-gly monster, with nostrils the size of Volvos, the ever bodatious Mara Corday, the "I play lots of generals" character actors...whats not to love?

The GIANT CLAW....I didn't know whether to laff or cry when I saw this. A classic Z movie if there ever was one!

King Cobra with Pat Morita.  Morita's character really provides all the laughs, though I really don't think it was intentional.  He's just so incredibly stupid it's funny.

Near misses for me:

The Giant Claw: I just missed seeing this one once on late night TV- I caught the last image of the final scene- were the claw sinks beneath the waves, and cursed myself for missing it.

The Vulture: Godawful film with Akim Tamiroff (I think that's how his name is spelled)as a half man/half vulture and tried to find humor in it, but it just hurt to watch. One of the few films I would rather substitue watching The Swarm (instead of this film) for.

The Invisible Man: Everybody in this movie was probably either bats**t insane or they'd eaten lead paint as a child. Nevertheless, not funny... just irritating. I actually sympathize with the invisble madman most of the time.

Jurassic Park 3: I cheered on the Spinosaurus, and loved the scene where it snaps the T rex's neck... but those damn humans kept pulling the camera away from the fun stuff. God the plot made me wish I could morph into a dinosaur so I could chew up William H Macy and crap him out.

Judge Dredd: This movie almost made me cry due to it's sheer God-awfulness. Keep in mind I've never seen Battlefield Earth. Same for Brab Wire.

That was a travesty! The T-Rex is the king of the Dinosaurs. Not some silly Spinosaurus that I've never heard of before.

Zombie Lake - a total laughfest. Non-scary zombies who only attack in the daylight, bright green and poorly applied make-up, TERRIBLE continuity, the film crew captured in a mirror and a swimming pool standing in for a lake are just some of the laughable things in this one.

I laughed the most during this one movie called "Criminally Insane". It's about a fat woman that starts killing people because they made her stop eating, this movie didn't seem to be aware of its camp either and was going for a "disturbed psycho" effect, so everything was inherently funny. Seeing her eat, kill people in unconvincing ways, and look p**sed off is pure comedy. The movie somehow involves a pimpslap that gets re-played in slow motion too, that's when I started losing it and couldn't stop laughing.

Wow! I haven't seen it, but now I'm gonna keep an eye out for it. A slo-mo pimp slap does sound like icing on the cake.

Did this one involve Nazi zombies?  I saw something called Zombie Lake when I was a kid, but I think it was Nazis?

My pick for laughable?  Ghost House.  I saw it in 4th grade, and it scared the crap out of me.  I searched for it for years, and finally found it at a Blockbuster in Texas.  My god, for bad.  So bad....so so bad.....but funny.  But bad.

Isn't this the one that has those dancers trying to get Kong to drink some berry juice, & one of them comes out in front wearing those falsies?
