Yep, Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Menard, as I told a friend of mine yesterday (who is comtemplating going shopping with his wife tomorrow), you could not pay me enough to go shopping on the day after Thanksgiving.  There's not enough money in the treasury.

Best to all...

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Sadly, I'll be one of the ones up early in the morning.  Going to try and get my hands on a 52 inch HDTV at WalMart tomorrow morning.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

Around here no one is all that fond of turkey and no one really feels like expending the effort to cook, so our tradition is to go out and stuff ourselves on prime rib and lobster.

I can hardly wait. :teddyr:

Food wise, this Thanksgiving was the absolute worst I've ever had.

It was fun to be with family that I haven't seen in awhile but the food, which is always prepared by the same relatives every time and is usually very good, was atrocious this year.

We did not have real turkey.
They picked up some cheap crappy pre-processed turkey that was so bland, not even salt or mixing it with mashed potatoes or anything else made it taste good.

Who the heck buys fake processed turkey product for Thanksgiving!?
(You either buy a real bird or don't do it at all I say)

I could tell it wasn't "real" turkey just by looking at it.
You know those cheap turkey slices you buy to put on sandwiches?
It was like that only thicker slices.
It even looked pre-sliced.
There was no stringy white or dark meat that I love cut right off the bird...just this off-white color cheap looking stuff.
Even the mashed potatoes were bland and the baked beans were too runny.
About the only things that were good was the ham they'd prepared and the store bought rolls.
Never in my life have I had a Thanksgiving dinner this bad.
Matter of fact, it all made me upset to my stomach and I feel sick right now as I type this.

One of the best things about Thanksgiving in my opinion is really good turkey and all the leftovers.
That didn't happen this year.
On a scale of 1-10, I rate this year's so called feast a 1.

As soon as my sister and I got in the car to leave, all we both did was b***h about how bad the food was this year.
Turns out she didn't like it either.
Put it this way, take the worst buffet you've ever been to and times it by ten.
It was that bad.

Oh well, at least I didn't have to pay for it.
I don't think I'll be eating with them next year.

Now I think I'll go lay down and try to digest this awful food.

One of the best things about THANKSGIVING is giving thanks for the things that we have....like having SOMETHING to eat.  Some people don't even have that.

Sorry your meal was less than you expected.

Don't get me wrong, I had fun hanging out with my relatives.
It's always nice to see them but they really fudged on the meal this year.

My uncle's wife's father (not related to me) is an 82 year old WW2 veteran and every year, we all get together at the American Legion hall in Coggon, Iowa.
It's a pretty nice place with WW2 memorablila on the walls.
They always set up a big buffet line.
Usually, the food is outstanding.

I like talking to him...he served in the ETO in WW2 as a combat engineer and he always has some really great stories to tell.  He's one vet who doesn't mind telling you all about some of the experiences he had while over there.
That, and I beat him 3 out of 5 hands at Gin Rummy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gin_Rummy) while waiting for the food to cook.   :teddyr:

So I guess that I'm thankful for that part of it all.
I just wish the food had been better.

And yes, I thanked them for the meal.

The last few years, my parents always take my uncle & I to Shoney's for the "all you can eat" buffet
This year, the stuffing was a little pasty, but the creamed corn was particularly good :tongueout: , and the turkey wasn't dry :teddyr: . Plus, the folks with kids didn't start showing up until we got around to desert.

I don't mess with those ThanksGiving day sale anymore, but they really used to bug me. Years ago, I had this job as an insert loader in a newspaper bindery. All throughout November, we'd see all the advanced copies of ads, and familiarized ourselves intently with each of them. Unfortunately, being a newspaper, we always had to work on holidays.  :hatred: (What's the word I'm looking for?) Now that I don't work there, or get the paper anymore, I don't see the ads at all, and thus, don't have to think about it anymore.

I can just relax & focus on that L-Triptophane rush.  :bouncegiggle:

I hope everyone had a good day.  We were at my sisters (the regular-sized one).  At a ton, spent hours talking, and finished up with playing hide and seek through the house.  My son, who is almost two, does not quite understand hide and seek.  He would hide with you in a good spot, then start pointing at you and yelling, "You're it!"

Little Andy also ate a huge amount.  At the end of the night, after dessert, his belly was so big that his shirt would no longer cover it.

A few years ago I had a sudden revelation.  Since then, I live by the following:  always go to the birthdays, baby showers, weddings and get together at the holidays, because you are always going to be at the funerals.

Decent holiday, good food (even the stuff I cooked came out okay and people liked it), good times with family, but some had to leave early (due to illness and to not get others sick, travel time back home), and others like my sister couldn't make into town.

We found out I have a hidden talent: I can rock my cousin's 5-month old to sleep with ease, even the parents can't do that. Not a parent and I have a love-hate relationship with the little ones. Strange.

For me one of the better turkey days in recent years.

Wasn't going shopping today no matter what, but had planned to hang out with visiting relatives or make plans for the weekend. But today I got up and my stupid phone line problem reoccured, had to go elsewhere to call it in. Took most of the afternoon, for it to get fixed. Figures on the one day I actually needed the phone, hopefully fixed for good now, or else the cell phone idea WILL get serious consideration. Oh well, such is life.

Which only begs the question: what happened to the abnormally monstrous one?

Anyways, I don't really have much to add [Thankswhat?] since that's not a holiday we celebrate here.  Though the Ashes have just started, so that's a celebration in itself [Cricket-related stuff, look it up chums!]  Nothing like beating the Poms senseless to really put you in that holiday spirit.

Though when I was younger and much better looking a friend of my brother's and their family who were from Atlanta would always have a thanksgiving feast at their place, so even though it's not an Aussie tradition, it was just a fun excuse to hang out with friends and splash around in their pool, whilst pigging out on some tasty food.

Hope you all had a good day/night, ate well [except Ash who will never taste again from the sounds of it] and enjoyed the company of friends and family.

Also Andrew, I like that revelation you had, and it's a good way to make sure you keep in contact with people since I find that I've been slipping in that area due to my own laziness, and have just started to make more of an effort to even just call up friends that I haven't seen in a while to just say hello and a quick catch up.
