Title: Bloodsucking Freaks
Post by: thedokta@yahoo.com on November 03, 1998, 10:22:23 PM
In my humble opinion this movie is to bad movies what "The Godfather" is to good movies. Any time a movie features a scene in which a naked woman wearing a sex toy flashes an art critic who is then shot in the neck with a dart by a dancing, afro-wearing, sadist midget.. well you've got yourself one hell of a movie. Master Sarduu is definitely one of the sickest celluloid villians ever. His prediliction to keeping naked women as pets/theatre victims is nearly as atrocious as his twisted sexual deviancy. His one endearing quality is that he hired Ralphus on as his help. Their onscreen rapport is comparable to the great screen couples of the past Bogey/Bacall Tracy/Hepburn Ralphus/Sarduu? My one question about this movie is this... Is there any way Ralphus could have survived and if so could "Different Strokes: The Next Generation" be far off?

If that one guy's mother makes better movies, now THATS the kind of woman i want to meet.
Seriously though, where do you get a bunch of semi attractive (plus 1 hot blonde) girls to parade around as a bunch of naked madwomen, smearing themselves with raw flesh and blood?  I've seen the old Dwarves album cover with the girl covered in rabbit blood--but it still can't top bloodsucking freaks!
I first saw this movie on a lark, i rented a bunch of weird movies to watch when i got this sack of 'shrooms, i watched it 3 more times when i was sober just to confirm what i saw.  Changed my life!  I used to spend all my extra money on underground comix and zines--but Bloodsucking Freaks made me a convert to the whole low-budget-no-budget-independent-horror genre.  Plus, you can rent movies, comix and zines you have to lug around with you in bulky protective boxes until you die.

I give this movie the Infinite Star Rating, forget just thumbs up, every organ on my body that can point is up for this one!

This flick was the lamest cheeziest s**t I ever saw. Bloodsucking Freaks has the charm of low-grade porno. It has no noticeable plot, sorry-ass acting ,and confusing scenes. Bloodsucking Freaks can only be apreciated while doped-up(the only way I prefer to watch cheeze like this).   NOTE: I never said I didn't like it.

The film has a couple of links with the "real world."  There really was a Sardou who wrote plays, guided by a belief that the women in plays should be "tortured."  Alfred Hitchcock took some pointers from this playwright.  Also, Louis de Jesus played an Ewok in one of the Star Wars sequels!  I saw BF in college and, like others, had to watch it again to verify what I thought I had seen the first time.  Ralphus and Sardu have great onscreen chemistry.  The movie reeks of bad intentions.  Check it out.

If only Ralphus and Sardu had directed the Tonya Harding Honeymoon tape. I see Tonya lifting up her wedding dress and Ralphus shooting a blowdart into her ass.

This is one of the best movie's I have ever watched.  The funniest thing in the movie is the scene about three minutes in the movie that showsa chain dangling in front of a bright light for a minute and fifteen seconds.  The sad thing is you know that when they were making this movie some guy (probably Kaufmann) was saying, "I've got an idea for this great shot of a chain in front of a light.  It's going to look so cool."

I think your mouths would make interesting Urnals

Who really likes this trash-epic? BLOODSUCKING FREAKS is one of the most god awful films ever. And I know it is even though I have never seen it. And I will never stoop so low to see this trash flick. Just crap filmaking at it's best. Whoever likes this film is a pervert, psycho, and a Snuff film fan auteur. The people who like this film (and I am talking about these people on this site who reviewed it and said "I loved it") should be ashamed. To those on this site who have said this was a bad film (and I know their are few people who said that), the more power to them for avoiding this trash-cinema. Let this be a lesson: horror and nudity harly work in films anymore. The director, and the critics on this site, should realize that the porno years of the 1970's is over. Porno's are dead! In fact, nudity really sucks in films. Thank God I have avoided watching this God awful film. I can make a better film than this. I'm all for peoples own opinions, but I can't believe that these reviewers like this flik just because of the nudity. Really pathetic.

Truly the Citizen Kane of the sleaze genre. I have watched it over 50 times
unfortunately with Mark Hollyoak ( see above ) and JESUS!!! HE'S EVEN GOT A DOG
CALLED RALPHUS!!!
See it once and be shocked, see it twice to be repulsed, see it 50+ times and call
your dog Ralphus.
If you like John Waters and Herschell Gordon Lewis, thi is the film for you.

Okay, I like a fair number of "bad", sick movies -- Japanese tentacle porn, early John Waters, Redneck Zombies, and so on -- but then there's Bloodsucking Freaks. I've only turned off two movies in my life due to depravity, and this is the only one of the two that was interesting enough to remember. Hell, I even had the poster in college, but I'll be damned if I ever sit through more than the first half of this crap.

God help me, I love this movie! They used to play it at the $1.00 Show in my hometown every year (and under a different name each time). I remember it was a huge deal to get in because the show was only for 18 and over; It took me a few tries to get in on a fake I.D., and was it ever worth it! This move has scarred me for life-I can't eat a hot dog without thinking of the final scene.
P.S. Amazon.com has a DVD "Directors Cut" for sale-I can't imagine what the hell they left out.

Oh for Gawd's sake -- they made a point of punishing the bad guys in the end, so can't we just get over all the moral scruples stuff already ?!?!? What more could you need ?

I saw this movie in the mid-Eighties, when it had the reputation of being the holy grail of must-sees. I asked the local video library, but the guy there (who resembled the vampire in Fright Night) said "Absolutely not -- I refuse to have that filth in my shop!"  I then asked his co-worker, and smoothly borrowed this flick and took it home !

I watched it with a copper and his fiancee.  The copper was making a point of turning up his nose at it for a while, but then he saw the "operation" scene, where a "doctor" drills open a girl's skull and sucks her brains out.  The copper laughed manically, incontinently, unstoppably, and we had to pause the tape for a few minutes to let him finish ! His fiancee bravely managed the sort of two-second smile that Miss Elizabeth used to do whenever Macho Man Randy Savage was getting carried away, and that was her sole comment on the entire film.

The standout for me was not so much the bumcheeks-as-dartboard scene, but the guillotine blade held open by the rope being placed in a girl's mouth... while she has her head on the chopping block and while someone is spanking her... No, prospective viewers, I won't tell you whether she screams....  You should all be ashamed of yourselves for reading this far anyway.

I don't care what anyone says, this movie is really good considering its obvious budget and poor acting.  My friends and I had a lot of fun with this movie!  It's a shame that there are so many prudes in the world who'll write this movie off as having no entertainment value.  After all, none of it was meant to be taken seriously!

This film, along with REDNECK ZOMBIES, BLOOD SALVAGE, and many other classic(k) B-Movies, is the definitive trash epic. I just finished watching it, and it is a Natural classic. RENT IT, BUY IT, STEAL IT. Do whatever it takes to see this hilarious masterpiece.

P.S.
For all of you people who didn't like this flick , dismissing it as sleazy-crap, remember this- IT IS ALL DONE AS CAMP!! IT IS A J-O-K-E!! I'm 14 and if I can see that, surely you can.

Sick and twisted. It would be disgusting for me to say I loved this film but I bought it and I watched and I watched it again. So I guess I liked it. What a sick piece of trash though. Naked chicks getting tortured by a midget! I don't know what to say. I'll give this one a 3.5/5.

I watched this once with a friend who enjoyed violent sick films. After it had finished he said he "felt dirty" and "violated" and ashamed to have watched it. I mean the guy actually acted as if he'd been raped. I just absolutely laughed my ass off for days afterward.

What can you say about a film so over the top that it produces such reactions. It just proves how stupid prudes are in todays society, the more you laugh during this film, the more sense you have - it's fantastic.

It has the most nudity I've ever seen in a movie, the most sickening torture I've ever seen in a movie and the greatest bad acting maniacal midget that will ever appear anywhere. Thats got to be good for you.

I don't care what anybody says, this is undoubtedly the worst movie ever.  EVER.  And not in a good way.  I am usually a placid person but i was literally punching the wall in anger every time that stupid little midget came on and did a dance.  For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, there is NO STORY.  AT ALL.  I'm real p**sed off that someone else killed the actors before i did, but maybe theres a member of the audience or something whos still around.......

We saw this movie the way very few people can claim to have seen it:  sitting next to director Joel Reed!  He pointed out some jokes that no one seems to ever get.
   1.  Ralphus is walking through a dark corridor holding a torch.  Suddenly he puts the torch down and turns on a light!
   2.  Sardu is sitting enjoying a decanter of whisky.  The bottle on the table is Seagrams Pinch.  Get it?  "Pinch"?
After the movie we treated Joel to dinner and we stayed friends for quite a few years until we left the New York area.  Back in 1990 he announced plans for a sequel but so far nothing has materialised.  Sadly I guess those days are long gone.  Oh well, we still have this movie.
Has anyone seen Joel's other movies, NIGHT OF THE ZOMBIES starring Jamie Gillis and Alphonse DeNoble (best remembered for ALICE, SWEET ALICE) or ONE ARMED EXECUTIONER?
If you have let us know.  We'd like to know we aren't the only ones who have!

Not much to say except, I have a strong stomache. I love fun gore. I like Cannibal Ferox, Cannibal Holocaust & Emanuelle In America for instance. This is the only film I have ever watched that has left a bad taste in my mouth. I'll let you'all figure out why. I hate censorship, so I encourage you to see this film, I just don't necessarily want to know if you like it. The end.

I watched this movie when I was in high school in the mid-1980s.  I watched it with friends and to this day if you ask one of us if we watched it we will deny it.  My favorite part though, is the phony-ass football helmet the supposed pro quarterback uses.  Try Sears catalog, page 254...$12.99.  This movie scarred me in much the same way "Truth or Dare" did.

And again Ralphus. As written in an interview in a german magazine, Herva (from the TV-series Fantasy Island) was first planned to play his role. But he wanted some extra money for his flight-ticket .Louis de Jesus was already there and so he got the role instead.
In the interview Joel M. Reed also said, that deJesus has done some porn movies after Blood Sucking Freaks , as he was told.
This movie was for a long time not (or hard) to get in europe because it wasnīt released here. But now we even have german version. Iīve seen the movie the first time in a spanish version and didnīt understood a word, but
I donīt remember Night of the Zombies (Schreckensmacht der Zombies)very well, but, has anybody seen Joels first movie "Career Bed"?

Who needs a plot when you have a horde of naked cannibal women, a sadistic cymbal-bashing midget, and butt darts? Now that's entertainment!! Viva la Troma for remastering this classic. Oh, and Mr. "the porno years of the 1970's is over", (ARE over! ARE, dagnabbit!) I have three points to make. Point A: Bloodsucking Freaks was released in 1978. Point B: It is my understanding that the adult film industry is doing quite well these days. Point C: In order to avoid looking like a jackass, one should do one's research before spouting off opinions. Thank you, and have a lovely day.

I work with a lot of guys and we all have multiple computers. To keep them straight we name them. My two are Sardu and Ralphus. I just wanted to mention that.

Title: Bloodsucking Freaks
Post by: Evan on November 25, 2006, 04:09:49 PM
(sigh...) Where to start. I read the review on this movie a few years ago and rented it. I sat watching this movie thinking that it should probably be illegal. Not only does it show shameless simulated murder that I liken only to snuff films of the 80's (maybe this the lost Faces of Death movie renamed), but the guy who played Sardu was utterly terrible. I was truely disturbed after watching this and just stared in disgust as the screen went black. (I still retch when I think about it.)

The only saving grace in this movie, and the only reason that I would reccommend even renting it for a couple hours, is of course Ralphus! There's just something about a little person with a fro in a horror flick dancing around joyfully as someone is slaughtered. It's a mixed emotion kind of thing. On one hand... how disgusting. On the other hand there is an urge to laugh at the whole situation which actually makes me feel a little uneasy.

Watch this flick! It's a clasSICK! Anyone ever think that maybe combining Rocky Horror and Ralphus would be at all entertaining? OH GEEZE! NO! NO! NO! That's just wrong! The visual of Frankenfurter and Ralphus is even more disturbing than this film! Forget I mentioned it PLEASE!

First and foremost. Anyone who wrote a review on this board WITHOUT seeing this classic and judged it badly should be tortured and drilled in the skull. My cousin and I are THEE biggest fans of BloodSucking Freaks (aka The Incredible Torture Show). Big props to the other biggest fans in the world (especially the guy who named his dog Ralphus)! There is a rule to this film that my cousin and I realized.

See it once: WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!!
See it twice: It was intriguing enough to find out why we watched it in the first place.
See it three times: Ohhhhhhhh, I get it now. It's a classic.

From then on, when you see this film you pick up new things all the time and spot stuff you didn't in the previous viewi ng. The script is brilliant comedy in the likes of sick Marx Bros. humor. It's a scenario that could really happen, especially in NY. The acting is phenomenal (mainly Seamus O'Brien in an Oscar-worthy performance). I can't say too much for the others, but everyone adds to the film. Lastly, I want to thank the imagination of Joel M. Reed for changing my life drastically and opening my mind to creativity. You don't have to be a genius to be creative. Remember that.

Lastly, what's up with the two black women who along with Ralphus, work for Sardu. They never get any props. Who are they? Thank you for reading this and I hope the close-minded open their minds to this cult classic. Seamus O'Brien R.I.P.

Although I'm not into sado-cannibalistic masochism, this movie was as goofy as it was disgusting. Don't let anyone in your family who might be religious find out that you watched this flick. Nothing in this movie was appropriate.
Parents: don't ever let your kids watch this as it will warp their minds into viewing women and girls as "expendable slaves." Oh, and the only time there was any blood-sucking was when that malpracticing doctor tortured that blonde by removing her teeth w/out anesthetic, shaved her head bald, drilled a hole in her head, and stuck a straw in the hole and suck her blood and brain fluids. Even the nasty Sardu and Ralphus were repulsed by this twisted doctor.

The movie had some disgusting scenes in it like the brain sucking and sandwich scenes, but what bothered me most was the scenes involving human humilation that degrades the women in the film and all women in general. The prime example of this involves the woman who is used as a human dart board. In the scene the woman fully nude has a target logo drawn on her bare buttocks and then is forced to bend over a couch while darts are thrown at her bottom by 2 men. The men laugh during the entire sick game while the woman grimaces in pain with each dart that is thrown at her buttocks. The humilation and pain (mental and physical)that this woman must endure while the 2 men laugh away and enjoy her situation is totally sad.

This is my pick for "The Worst Movie Ever Made." It has no redeeming values whatsoever. It is not even in the "so bad, it's goood" category. If there is a sub-alphabet genre of films, this one is it's poster child.

Leave it to TROMA to make this one.

I could go on and on about this film, but I won't. It's not worth my time.

That being said:  I'm proud to have BSF in DVD my collection.

I saw this movie because i thought it is another standard troma movie but this movie was ever more funny than troma. i don't get comments about humilation in this movie, i think that all crew (including savage women probably taken from standard boring porns) have real fun making this movie. for me this is kind of parody of passolini "salo". I didn't liked salo because this was too serious and grim to laugh. How somebody can think something like this about sardu show?I think that s/m things have really big comedy potential and Freaks show it. Only people completly without sense of humor can take this movie seriously and think about suffer and pain of women being used as a table or target for a darts. I have checked Luis de Jesus filmography and he made a long way from being "anal dwarf" to ewok in Star Wars. What a pity that he and O'brian didn't apper in other movies together because they made one of the best friendships I saw in the movies. It was real bizarre story that O'brien was killed shortly after made probably the best movie in his short career. Maybe someone took this film too serious and want to stop Sardu from making a sequel of Freaks

I just want to add that when somebody think that some every disgusting scene in Freaks was made in director imagination he is wrong. Oral sex with severed head and dart play are taken from reality. Just check out Ed Kemper, famous serial killer, story. If someone can think that Freaks is disgusting he should know that reality is really more disturbing than movies because head used by Kemper belonged to his mother. So don't say movies are terrible, just check some real stories.

The late Seamus O'Brien (he was murdered in New York City in 1977 by a burglar in his apartment) and the late Louie Dejesus (died of a heart attack in 1988) had incredible onscreen chemistry. Niles McMaster as Tom Maverick and Dan Fauci as Sgt. John Tucci gave spirited performances as well. Who will ever forget when Maverick stumbles into a severed head and says: "Oh, Christ people outta be more careful about what they leave lying around!!!" Then Tucci chimes in with: "What's the matter kid haven't you ever got a little head before?"

I really like this trash-epic!  BLOODSUCKING FREAKS is one of the most god awful films ever and that is part of what I find appealing about it. The fact that you've never seen this really nullifies your opinion.  Doesn't it?   I'm not a pervert, a psycho, nor do I consider myself a "Snuff film fan auteur."   I'm not ashamed of liking this film.  I'd be more ashamed of liking a film such as "Reds" or "The World According to Garp," but to each his own.  The thing most appealing is the lack of typical mainstream cinema's approach, writing, topic, etc. Horror and nudity don't work anymore?  That in no way explains the recent trend of remaking all these so called horror classics?  Hell, some of them have even became franchises on their own.  Porno isn't dead either, my friend.  There is plenty of nudity left in films as well.  As a matter of fact, it's even on television now.  I guess they don't show it on the christian network?  How are you sure you can make a better film than this, when you deny that you've even watched it?   Liking nudity isn't pathetic, it's human nature.  Now go get that fullfilling sex life you so deserve!  You're missing out!  Your God wanted it this way!
