Title: City of the Walking Dead

One of the best horror films ever made. YES I´M SERIOUS! It scared the s**t out of me when I was a kid and now I´m nostalgic over it!

I didn't think this movie was that bad.  I loved the zombies kicking butt!  And at least they explained why a zombie (a dead creature) eats living people.  One of the better Italian zombie movies.

I gotta agree with the second guy, this movie is extremely nostalgic,I found the idea of SMART zombies that could use weapons and run kinda eerie, and the dream-becoming-reality ending was the scariest thing to me back then!

This movie was weird, some times the zombie would attack and no blood at all, knife attacks and all and that made the movie funny, other times you add great gore effect?????

I wonder why the director didnt pay more attention to the special effects???

Why is this film so under rated? It has great pace, pretty good gore.  A good example of campy
 Italian horror

I have this movie and i find it to not be as bad as some people say.the gore isn't bad and the basic plot(although could have been better executed) is pretty cool.

I, as a fan of this type of horror, really found this movie to be pretty good, aside from all the gore, and violence. The dream becoming reality idea, was well thought up. It adds to the terror that this film already generates. And that one scene in the basement takes the old addage AN EYE FOR AN EYE, literally. A excellent addition to the zombie genre.

One of my favorite schlock movies of all time.  Bad dubbing, bad acting, dumb story, lame ending, this movie has everything I look for.  My favorite moments were the exploding TV set, the scene where the soldiers were told to shoot the monsters in the head, only to later shoot them in every place but, and one of my all time faves, the scene where the two survivors discuss coffee (I guess they forgot they were being chased).
I'd recommend this piece of crap to anyone who enjoys all out schlock.  Cleveland steamer monsters are cool.

I just saw this movie for the first time thanks to the wonders of the internet and online broadcasting and really liked this movie.  I mean the first time Swamp Thing appears I think to myself, "Hey, I didn't know Swamp Thing was a Zombie."  I also caught a lot of things in this movie that made me think a little, was this city supposed to be in Europe or the US?  Why was one of the Civil deffence soilders wearing a US Marine Corps dress blue Corporal patch on his arm?  Lastly did anyone else see the dog playing with all the Zombies while being circled by the helecoptor, he sure looked like he was having a good time.  This movie was very enjoyable and left me rolling with laughter.

Christ this flick was bad. Everyone here that enjoyed this flick.....what the hell are you talking about? Try any of Fulci's living dead flicks to see how it's really done. This movie is lame

Umberto Lenzi rivals Bruno Mattei as one of the most ham-fisted, delusional directors on the Italian horror scene (or at least the former Italian horror scene).  I first saw "City of the Walking Dead" back in 1997, when I had no idea what the scene was all about, and thoroughly hated the movie; I rented it again recently and hated it just as much.  Maybe if Anchor Bay did one of their superb remasters, I'd give the movie another look, but seeing that that hasn't happened yet, the full-screen version sucks and the print quality is bad.  The story is about zombies that not only can run around like normal, healthy people, but also have full knowledge of how to operate automatic weapons and brandish machetes.  Some people applauded this aspect, saying it went against the norm, but I think Lenzi was either too impatient or lazy to give his "actors" directions on "being zombies."  The tomato-paste special effects don't help any.
Along with "Night of the Zombies," this is one of the worst things to come out of the whole cannibal/zombie movement.  For real zombies, check out a Fulci flick.

God, I hated this movie. Sure, Italian zombie flicks are entertaining just because of how bad they are but please! Try Nights of Terror or the spanish Blind Dead series for some good bad zombie action. Actually, on second thought don't.

This is not only my favorite zombie movie of all time (next to the unsurpassable "Dawn of the Dead"), but it's also one of my favorite horror movies from the 80's, my fave being "Hide and Go Shriek" with "Return of the Aliens, the Deadly Spawn" and "Nightmare" in close seconds.  The acting may not be the best, the story may be a little dull, the dubbing may be awful, the picture quality not that great, some scenes purely stupid, and the dialogue bland, but this movie is still terrifying in it's own way.  The first time I saw this, I was scared for a month.  It surpassed even my fear of "Hell Night" and "Clownhouse" (two other amazing little gems from the 80's).  I now own the movie and the dream-becomes-reality ending still makes my jaw drop a bit.  I recommend this to any TRUE zombie fan!

Can I say one thing right off the bat and get it out of the way?  Hugo Stiglitz cannot act his way out of a wet paper bag!  If this movie isn't proof enough try sitting through NIGHT OF 1000 CATS or CEMENTERIO DEL TERROR sometime.
That having been said I actually like this movie!  Not until I saw the European version (called NIGHTMARE CITY) did I find out these are not really walking dead but atomic radiated mutants who have turned into superbeings that are well near indestructable.  Okay so let's keep on calling them zombies because . . .well . . .it's just easier.
Don't you love a movie where you shoot at the zombies and they shoot back?  Not until Carlos Aured's AFTER DEATH did anyone copy that idea!
Watch for Stefania D'Amario, who is also in DR. BUTCHER M.D. playing the daughter of Mel Ferrer.

I thought it was pretty hilarious how bullets couldn't hurt the zombies, but the reporter could easily lay the smack down on them.  The exploding TV was pretty funny too.  And the "nightmare becomes real" ending was seriously messed up.  Funny stuff, watch it for a laugh.

I bought this movie for a couple of bucks at a used movie store. The only reason I bought it is because on the back cover of the box it mentioned Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead. Yeah, I forgot the fact that every movie in the history of ever hypes up its content with a bunch of lies and some good pictures. The only thing I learned from this movie is that Italian zombies are the worst of all zombies. If you like bad movies this is the one for you. The ending is so bad it hurts. Also on the back of the box it says "Due to the graphic nature of the violence, as well as considerable nudity, this film is unsuitable for children." Let me add that it is also unsuitable for adults and aliens who want to be entertained. Let me sum up this movie classic in one sentence. I truly feel like I've wasted 90-minutes of my life.

Strayed too far from the zombie "rules" for me, but I haven't seen it in a long time and maybe I should give it another try.  BTW, I think this is far worse than Hell of the Living Dead [aka Night of the Zombies.]

It's incomprehensible to me that anyone could find this piece of garbage good. The zombies looked like burn victims, the main characters were 1 dimensional and unlikable in every way, the ending was just plain lame, and at times you could see the actual film crew and extras just hanging out on the set amidst the supposed chaos. I like watching bad movies for the unintentional humor, but this one is more like a Manos than a Plan 9.

The scene in the studio was a very good one.
The story was very good.
The special effects could be a bit better.
The acting was bad, some of the actors were okay but the most were bad.
The zombies were funny.
The fact the reporter was able to escape from the airport and not one of the soldiers was the fact the soldiers just keep shooting untill they were dead. Also in the studio, Dean was just the lucky one he could reach the exit and take a car. Also in the hospital he knew what to do because he didn't panicking.

If you dont like this movie you probably dont like B-Movies, or you take zombie movies way too seriously. This is one of the best of the worst.

Schlocky but lively.  Definitely not on par with "Day of The Dead" or Fulci's "City of the Living Dead", but not really meant to be either.  Taken for what it is--  a violent, completely gratuituous spaghetti gorefest-- it is enjoyable.  The zombies certainly are different and often quite fearsome.    I have to admit I did laugh hysterically when Laura Trotter plunged to her death from the helicopter.  File it next to "Hell of the Living Dead" and the later "Zombie" in-name-only sequels.

Virus rules.  The original House of the Dead!  Zombies are radiated people who need blood to keep their bodies functioning.  The director in an interview stated that he wanted to do something different with the genre.  So he made the zombies very active and blood thirsty.  Umberto Lenzi a.k.a.
Bert Lenz wanted to show man tampering with the unknown (i.e. radioactive energy).  Shot in technoscope (2.35.1) he set out to make a movie that would rejuvinate the zombie genre.
The film was "shot" in english, the actors either mouth the dialog or spoke it phonetically (this was because they had to dub the movie in eight different languages).  Surprisingly this movie has a lot more depth to it than many of the italian horror films that were cranked out during that time.  Sadly, the horror movie industry has all but died due to strict censorship laws and a change in the market and political spectrum.

Higly recommended because of the cheese and gore factor.

One of the worst movies that supposed to be a zombie-movie. Story and acting is boring, boring, boring. So they put just lots of ugly splatter-effects in it. The zombies can run and use weapons like mps and guns. So I would call them just kinds of mutant beeings or so and not zombies. If you wanna watch a good zombie- or splatter-movie for a good video-party, just watch a movie of John Romero or maybe Lucio Fulci.

I never knew that this movie was italian no wonder their lips dont sync with what they say. Hey i watched this movie like 20 years ago when i was still a preschooler.(talk about parental guidance). and i can say it scared the hell out of me, brought nightmares, fed my brain about what zombies can really do... they rock! Theres a lot of errors in this but if you're looking for a good scare, less talk, more action, more kill spree, kill time then watch it.

my god...what can you say about this film...I mean Italian zombie schlock at it's apex.

Has anyone ever noticed that the zombies in this don't look like rotting corpses so much as disinterested Italian guys with their faces smeared with excrement?

Hence why me and a friend of mine lovingly distinct this film from others in our zombie collection as "the Poopy-face Zombies"

and come on...who can EVER get tired of watching the poopyfaces slaughter that GODDAM DANCE GROUP!!!?

Chow down my fecal-faced friends...chow down

I think there must be a lot missing from the City of the Walking Dead version.  My copy of Nightmare City has loads of gore and flesh and gorgeous av quality.  I like my garbage presented in the best possible quality!

It saddens me that people don't love this movie.  Pure hilarity all around.  I think Lenzi knew how bad it was going to be and just took it completely over the top to compensate.  Also, the music is wonderful.

This movie is known as "Invasión de los zombies atómicos" (Invasion of the atomic zombies) here in Mexico, and is one of the weirdest, crappiest films I've ever seen.

Lousy action and zombies that apparently are olympic athletes who feed on blood were too much to begin with, not to mention that all the rest of the film just sucks...

At least "City of the walking dead" sounds better as a title..

John Romero? Is he related to George? brudders, mebbe?

I just bought this a couple of days ago. Fun stupid nonsense! Yeah, the zombies look like somebody smeared sh1t on their faces, but lotsa action ,so while it's dumb and nonsensical,it doesn't slow down and give you time to really think about it. Who needs charecter development when you got zombies with guns? I like it.

In my opinion, City of the Walking Dead is a classic only in the sense that it is so over the top, so self-depricating, not even trying to stand of the shoulders of giants like Romero of Argento, but understands that it can still find a niche somewhere in the nooks and crannys of the zombie genre, although it is not a traditional zombie film, these "walking dead" are driven by radioactivity for a thirst of red blood cells, I would say they are more similar the creatures from the "28 Days Later" saga, out of their minds, uncontrollable to the point they can't speak, only grunting to each other. This movie is enjoyable for what it offers, so I take it as another aspect of zombie canon.
