Title: Killer Klowns from Outer Space
Post by: Andrew on November 13, 1998, 12:02:11 AM
Alien clowns use ray guns to turn people into cotton candy-wrapped corpses, popcorn grows into little fanged monsters, and there are even killer pies.  Killer pies!

This movie is great...if you haven't seen it, you have no idea how entertaining it is to watch killer klowns scare the bejabbers out of a small town's community members. Three other things I learned from this movie: It only takes two cops to run the local jail, you can survive a violent explosion by hiding in a freezer, and humans make great ventriloquist dummies.

well, looks like they blew the whole budget on the clown get-ups.  a great movie to behold!!  {no movie is complete without a make-out scene in a rubber raft}.  and people wonder why i'm still afraid of clowns.  pfft.

Probably one of my favorite bad movies of all time.  You have homicidal clowns wrapping people up in cotton candy and then sucking out there blood through crazy straws!  It doesn't get any better than that.  If you don't watch this movie to see the man-eating shadow puppet, the attack popcorn, acid pies, or using the chief as a ventriloguist dummy, then you have to a least listen to the song.

I saw this movie when I was about 9 years old.. it scared the crap out of me!!  No wonder everytime I see a clown I want to punch it in the nose!  I hate clowns!  Seeing this movie again... it's pretty funny.  I still hate clowns though

When I was around 6 or 7, I walked in to my cousin's room and he was seeing this. I got scared at the clowns and I started crying. A few years later when I was like 9 or 10, I walked into my mom's room and she was watching "It". It also scared me and I began to cry. Now, I'm 15, and I'm deathly afraid of clowns. Afraid enough to say that I suffer from a phobia of clowns. I just don't plain like 'em. But I still watch KKFOS, and I love the movie. I laugh, and I smile at how hokey it is. But if a clown (or a Klown), shows up in my room, the scare alone will kill me.

 Toodles,
 Shrewy

I loved the part when the Klowns came up to that one girls' door and zapped her with the cotton candy ray-gun kinda'-thing.
Yeah, I'd have to say that was my favorite since she was standing there in bra and panties, she had a nice bod! I wish I could find a picture of it on the sites I've looked up, but all I find is the one clown popping out of the box zapping her, not showing her at all. If possible, could you put that on here, if you could, thanks!

I think the reason this movie is so popular is that like the movie "Superman" it's based on a true story.

I thought i was the only one with this story:
I was about 6 or 7 and my friend and i taped this and watched it one night. I was so scared. I would sleep with the door open every night for 9 DAMN years (i still do). I am always seeing a klown in the corner of my eye, waiting, and pointing a cotton candy gun at me. this is such a sweet movie, sux it isnt available!

I first saw this movie when I was about 17 years old, and I begun to watch it, like most of us, becuase there wa nothing better on TV and becuse the title was so catchy that leaves you thinking "I wonder how they got the studio to finance a movie like this one". Whoever says this movie es crappy they are right is crappy, but that is how it is suposed to be, its supposed to be and make fun of crappy movies. Let me tell you guys it is the best crappy movie I've seen in my whole life. Those clowns are really scarry. Many people are scared of clowns and the drirectors of this movie took that into consideration that is why so many children find this movie incredibly scarry. Its one of those movies that you never forget the time and the place where you the you wached it for the first time. If a movie catches your eye so much and stays in your head its definitely a awesome movie, no matter how crappy it is.

It is official. "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" will finally be re-released on video by MGM on September 5, 2000. Sorry no DVD at this time. We're as upset by this as you are. Perhaps a letter writing campaign to MGM will help persuade them. Spread the word!

This is a great movie!  I remember watching it years ago like when nothing else was on TV.  Now I watch it every time it it comes on the Sci-Fi channel.  Don't call them special effects, call them generic effects, thats what makes this such a great movie.

This is one of my GP 'guilty pleasures' of all times.

I really enjoyed seeing those idiotic scary 'klowns' doing their tricks and killing people, I knew that people was to be killed, but I really liked the way they did it!

No matter this movie is bad, what I loved from it was the theory that maybe a long time ago this aliens came to this planet with their circus motives, giving humans the origin and motive of circus, clowns and tricks.

Later, I thought this movie is not bad. It's good, because I believed that its makers really intended this way.

(My exwife used to ask me if I have a brain distortion that makes me enjoy bad movies. I don't think so, because 'Amadeus', 'Pulp Fiction' and 'Star Wars' are some of my all time favorites).

No cult film zealot should meander through Life without taking in the humor & horror that is KKFOS...this was the only PG-13 horror film to have ever left me in shivers.  But now, it's definitely for arcane laughs!  It was re-released for video this fall after nearly 10 years (a shame there's no DVD news yet), & SCI-FI and USA air it occasionally.  What the heck are you waiting for...besides the upcoming sequel?!

Can a movie be silly and scary at the same time?  The same moment?  If it features Killer Klowns then the answer is a rousing YES!  No way on hell would I ever show this to my kid, he would be f**ked up for life!  The clown phobic should give this movie a pass if they want to avoid some truly warped nightmares.  Great theme song by The Dickies too, great to see it back on video, it's been gone too long.

I've seen this movie the day that It came out. I was living in Oregon at the time (still do by the way) and I enjoyed watching every minute of it. The CHIODO brother's did a great job! Im a special effects artist myself and the effects that I saw in this film were pretty good. Only if I were to work on the film. I turned it down, for certain reasons. Anyway, great movie!

I rented this movie because I had read about it and it sounded like the funniest B-Movie ever made! After seeing it it was my favorite "scary" movie until "Squirm." I saw it again with my Dad and was expecting him to HATE it like he was hoping for it to be scary, but after the movie he said he LOVED it! It totally surprised me!

I wish that there were more movies like KKFOS.  First of all, it is just PURE camp.  I heard that they're making a sequel too...but God knows how long it will be before that's out.  I saw KKFOS for the first time on the Sci-Fi Channel about 7 years ago or so.....it was the greatest two hours I'd spent in front of the TV.  When I finally got it on video, I could hardly contain my excitement.....by the way.....the movie is 10 times funnier if you are completely drunk of your arse when you watch it!

This movie is most definetly a cult classic, i remember watching Killer Klowns on HBO when i was 9. It scared the living sh*t out of me, i must of had nightmares about them things for the following year. Now I am 21, and I just watched it last night on Sci-Fi, nowadays i find the movie rather funny, but them cotton candy cocoons still win an owwwiee award in my opinion!! This movie is also the fav movie of one my fav bands (Anthrax). I am going to buy this on VHS when i get the chance, too bad there aren't any plans for a DVD release.

One of the best Movies ever made, Killer Klowns is long over do for a five-star DVD treatment!! There's nothing better then when a writer/director can have total artistic freedom to get his vision across, and that exactly what they did with this movie, the script wasn't passed around getting rewritten until the original ideas were totally lost, thats what makes this Film a Masterpiece!!

I'm a long time fan of this great Movie, and you can see a lot of Killer Klowns related Masks, Props & Artwork at my web-site; www.geocities.com/dreggs88

I haven't seen the whole movie but I think I saw about half of the film on the Sci Fi channel. I saw lots a mutant Klowns, little snake like creatures with Klown heads and a gigantic Klown is shown on the very end. I think this is a creepy movie and some scenes are retarded, oh wait, most of the movie IS retarded! I looked up this movie on IMDb(Internet Movie Database)for this film and I found out it has has three taglines:
1. "In Space No On Can Eat Ice Cream!"
2. "Alien bozos with an appetite for close encounters"
3. "big top ... big shoes ... big teeth!!"

Hmmmmmm. I know a better tagline better than all of those combined together:
"Killer Klown from Outer Space, watch it before you go to the circus!"

Sure, it sounds like what they said on the previews for "Jaws", but sharks and clowns, errrrr, I meant sharks and "klowns" are far more different from each other! It might come on again on Sci Fi or some other channel. If it does, I'll see both the beginning and end!

Killer Klowns from Outer Space rule as a cult flick! Saw this for the first time on TV and has been hooked ever since. This is the only movie, along with Stephen King's It, The Shining and Halloween, The Thing (1983) and The Chaneling, gave me nightmares when I was young at 10 or 11...and still do. Bring on the sequel!

Well, I finally saw the whole thing and it's not really retarded, but just goofy. It's a fun film and my favorite scene is when the small clown punches that one guy's head off. The clowns are scary. No doubt about it. The DVD is cool and I like the special feature called "Chiodi Brothers' Earlier Films". Not my favorite B-movie, though(my favorite is Bad Taste, which made me a fan of Peter Jackson). Killer klowns = scary!

We have the best movie of all time in a cheese section? Hell yeah!!!! I have watched this movie probably 100 times in my life. I have to say that one of the klownz looks a lot like a sinister man by the name of Nick Pooler... There is no sex in this movie, but it is as entertaining as watching a nice A+ movie. Sure, it is a peice of cheese, but a great one!!!.
Characters: 7.75/10.
Music: 10/10.
Cheese: 10/10.
Plot: 1.5/10.
Comedy: 8.5/10.
Horror: 4.75/10.
Overall: 10/10!!!
When it comes down to it, you should search for your copy of this epic film!!!!! (Festi is gay.)

Boooo! Stupid idea. I think this movie was going for the bizarre. It missed. I didn't find it funny, I didn't find it scary, I didn't find it particularly "bad"...just another production line type bad movie. ARMY OF DARKNESS was funny, Karloff's MUMMY was scary, PLAN 9 was bad, EVIL DEAD 2 was all three. If you want bizarre, go with BUCKAROO BANZAI. Killer Klowns is just more of the same formula crap aimed at the video market.

Ah, Killer Klowns From Outer Space....   A classic to end all classics.   When I see movies made like this, it just reminds me what a wonderful world we live in.  Sure, there are mad men flying airplanes into buildings, but to know that there are people out there making movies like this, and to know that there's a large audience that enjoys this kind of movie, it just brings tears to my eyes.  Tears of joy.  Humans may be a very selfish species that doesn't care about the natural world enough to protect it, but our ability to imagine, and to mix different ideas to come up with something so rediculous, that it's celebrated by the lot of us... this is what being human is all about.   Yes Sir; Killer Klowns From Outer Space is a tribute to what being human is all about.   That's why it was the very first DVD I ever purchased.  Chiodo brothers, I salute you.

This movie is really one of those you don't want to see. It's special effects sucked and the over all plot wasn't that good. I mean come on! Clowns going around killing people just for food? Gimme a break. I will admit, though, the movie was funny at some points but not all that good.

Terrific cult movie and a fave of mine. Many should know by now that the DVD has been released. It has outtakes, etc., but the music video at the end of the movie by "The Dickies" found on the VHS is missing on DVD. The Dickies also put out of soundtrack record for this flick. Shouldn't be too hard to find. That great theme song can be found there.

This film is great! However, i am not sure if it really qualifies as a "bad" film; it has interesting visual effects and a couple of creepy moments. Plus it is very tongue in cheek, and the worst films are meant to be serious, right? When "Nine Deaths Of The Ninja" and "The Slime People" are still out there i am not sure if this site is it's rightful place. Great theme tune too!

Hey when i first saw this movie it did not even scare me at all really, but see i grew up with alot of horror movies like jason in friday13th, michael myers in halloween, jaws movies, chucky in childs play, and what ever else. The clown that i was really attracted to was that red haired klown. The one that showed up at that drug store. For some reason i liked him so so much i didnt know why. I knew he was a klown, but i didnt care. I just really liked him. I think he did a good job in the movie too. That is my comment.

I saw this film with a mate one afternoon in about 1988/9 after we had been down the pub.

I don't remember much about it, (haven't seen it since) but I do know that we both thought it was brilliant!

We always were fans of 'The Dickies', so the title track is probably why we rented it in the first place!

I always remembered this though:

'In Space No-one can eat Ice Cream!'

"hey, boys...what 'cha gonna do with those pies, boys?" KCFOS is one of the finest cinematic masterpieces to ever star Dean Vernon Wormer after he lost his tenure at the college in Animal House. What a mess that was. If your fiancee does not like this film - don't marry her. Seriously.

I saw this on my local FOX affliate a while back, and loved it on site.  Now that it's on DVD, I've learned to love it even more.  The Klowns are great, but nobody ever talks about the music - it fits the film perfectly. Either way, it's on DVD, so nobody has an excuse to not own it.

If you've watched the "making of" documentaries on the DVD you'll see that the Chiodo brothers were NOT intending the film to have camp value. They talk about it like they intended it to be some ultra-scary epic, and frankly I think it's anything but. The film is awful, period. It has enough UNINTENDED camp value and good enough music to be worth 1 viewing, but after that it just became painful for me to even think about it. You can live without seeing this laughable piece of garbage, trust me. 1 star out of 5, and that's only because of the music, originality (of the bad kind, but still originality), and unintended camp value the film offers.

Next to Rocky Horror, this movie is my favorite cult classic. The clowns were freaky, and the huge clown at the end was awesome! This movie, along with IT(The movie with Tim Curry and John Ritter, remember?) were the best demonic clown movies I've ever seen.(Of course, I think there's only five demon clown movies out there.) 5 stars!

Fear the Clowns.

Whoops ! Guess I was a little too eager the first time (re: above submission)  I can't believe I found this site I'm just thrilled.  Bad Movies have a certain quality unto themselves. Killer Klowns has to be one of my all time favorites.  I think the 'Killer Klowns ' make up artist may have been Tammy Faye Baker although I can't be certain on that one.

I was too scared of this movie’s premise to see it when it first came out in theatres.  It was finally shown on TV for the first time last year and I taped it.  As you might expect, it wasn’t as scary to see it at 30 as it would have been at 15, and on TV rather than in a movie theatre, but it was still a little scary.

Its biggest problem is a lack of human characters that I can care about.  I feel sorry for the victims, but the heroes are pretty boring.

Man I had no idea people enjoyed this movie!! My older brother forced me to watch it when I was 2 and it scared me half to death! I've hated clowns ever since!! I had nightmares every night almost until I was 6 years old!! However, me and my friends are getting together tomorrow for a halloween scary movie marathon type thing and none of them have seen it before and i've not seen it since i was 2, I remember the klowns scaring me so bad.....but it's a little difficult to pick up the humor of the situation as a toddler so after reading your comments and downloading the main theme song i've decided to confront my fear of this movie head on and watch it again. It sounds so funny!! I'm really looking forward to it actually. Well I'll let you guys know how it goes!!

This is my favorite movie since i saw it on HBO in the mid 80's as a teenager. It's 'til this day one of the most unique movie's ever made. It's a mixture of people's childhood fear of clowns along with a little drama, humor, suspense, gore and a poop load of great special effects. It also gives you that 50's B-movie feeling with that famous boy and girl making out while a UFO crashes to earth in the distance and let's go look for it style beginning. Since seeing this movie years-ago, it has left an everlasting impression on me that no other movie has even come close to. Over the years i have collected an enormous amount of memorabilia from the movie, like posters, lobby cards, masks, prop replicas and even a bunch of original screen used props. Aside from collecting, i even got the chance to meet the makers of the movie, the Chiodo Brothers. After meeting them in person, it made me a bigger fan than i ever was. I got to talk with them and ask questions about the movie that i thought i would never know the answer to. In my eyes this is one of the most unique movies ever made and it could'nt have been made as great as it was by anyone other then the Chiodo Bros. This movie was never meant to be taken seriously, just to be enjoyed for it's classic B-movie style and great special Effects. Hopefully in the near future we will get to see a sequel with the same classic style and traditional special effects the first one had. Thank you for reading my comments and support the Chiodos in getting a sequel made by buying the DVD and watching it on TV every chance you get.

Just watched Killer Klowns after many years of not being able to find it again.  I have about 1,000 movies and am definitely a movie addict.  This film is one of the best of its genre I have ever seen.  It is witty, subtle, as well as being terribly over-the-edge schlock.  I would recommend to anyone with a sense of humor and an open mind.
It is now available on DVD along with special features.  Don't miss it!

Aww man, this movie scared the crap out of me when I was kid, but that was because I was afraid of one klown and it was the one that did the shadow puppets, not to mention he had a scary face that goes in front of the screen. But I soon confronted my fear and I've loved this movie ever since. I've been hearing alot of talk about a sequel all over the internet. Are they really going to make a sequel, cause I really want to see it.

Oh my god, I saw this movie when I was about 6 or 7. It scared me to death, and ever since that and the movie "It"..i've totally been creeped out by clowns (klowns) ever sence. I was just recently looking through a seventeen magazine and came across an article on it. I almost started to cry just looking at the picture. I'm 13 now and can't get over my clown phobia. Although, i'm scared of like, everything!! Just to name a few other movies i'm scared to death of are..Chuckie, Tales From The Krept, Gremlins, Friday The 13th..god, so many more!..It's not a bad movie, just..i really wouldn't show it to your children, they might start crying and having nightmares like I did, lol. Wellp, that's all I guess. Now that i'm even more scared than ever. :(

I thought this movie was kind of lame.  I like the themesong though.  But several things killed this movie for me.
1. You should not be able to kill a 15-foot-tall clown by poking it's nose with a badge.
2. A clown cannot make a bunch of people dissappear with a T-rex finger shadow.

Okay, that isn't several but you get the point.

Anybody with any sense is freaked out by clowns. clowns suck. Also, why is debbie always smiling through the whole movie, even when people are getting killed? Is she dumber than Britney Spears? And since the clowns kill everyone else they come into contact with, why did they just kidnap her?

The movie itself was enjoyable, if a bit underwhelming. However, the catchy theme song is quite possibly one of humanity's greatest acievements. I've got it on my iPod.
On another note, does anyone else think that the "killer popcorn" is actually juvenile Klowns? I noticed that they only germinate into snapping heads if placed in a dark place, much like maggots (which turn into flies, not snapping heads). maybe the snapping heads grow into Klowns? I mean, they are aliens, after all.

Alright I remember when this came on TV in the 95 late night, I was only 9 then, sad thing was I watched it with my Sis who was 11 and obviously it didn't scare her as much as it did me. What's really funny is 2-3 weeks later my mom rented a couple CLOWNS for my b-day..... yeah talk about a messed up b-day party. I saw this movie on mystery science theater 3000 not too long ago and laughed. Then i decided to call my mom up and tell her why my 10th b-day party sucked. She feels horrible, but is p**sed at me because I watched such a scary movie at my age.

BTW who is the hot chick that answers the door with a drink and pink nighty?

I have always loved this movie from the first time i saw when i was like 8 to now, it has to be the best worst movie in the world. You can never stop loving this movie for the lame graphics, but the klowns' costumes are amazing i must say.

Alright!  An update of this review!  Pretty good one too.  The thing that gets me about this film is the title.  I mean, how many people have seen this movie's title at the theater or at the rental store and thought, "Killer klowns from space?  I got to see this to believe this."

It's so ridiculous for the most part, but I gotta say, the ventriloquist scene was actually a bit freaky!

I've been meaning to pick this up on DVD for years but never got around to it.  I saw it in the Wal-Mart $5.50 bin a few years ago but didn't buy it for some reason.
I've always liked this film, even though it's been at least ten years since I've seen it.

Here's a Killer Klown Magic card I made:

Classic movie , a film that will keep you entertained for it's entire running time. The Clowns (or Klowns) themselves are very well done and do actually have a mildly sinister look to them, their language is not as sinister as there look though. Also with a couple of exceptions they are huge.

Their weapons are as deadly as they are diverse. Acidic Pies, Candy Floss Ray Guns, T-Rex Shadow Puppetry and Popcorn minions make the Klowns a terrifying prospect.

Luckily for this town it has a rookie cop who means business, a young man with his head screwed on, a lady who captured both of their attentions (and also the klowns) and a couple of ice cream men who would probably test the patience of a retired fisherman.

Very Good film, well worth watching.

Wow, what a great movie! Saw it when was I around 8 or 9 and I was scared but so mesmerized by the creepy clowns and that weird music.  My mom or aunt would say, hey we are goin to rent movie what do u want? Me and my cousin would always say "killer klowns".  God the acting was so bad but so funny,,,we would do lines from it all the time.  When I think of my childhood (now 27) this movie always pops up...odd but true & I can't wait to see it again:)

I thought this was a fairly average B movie. Entertaining enough without being funny. I did like the start, it has a real Blob feel to it with the old guy and his smell-hound discovering the tent and the crusty old cop not believing the kids story.

Still, this is more entertaining than a lot of B movies.

To paraphrase Alice Cooper: Can't sleep, Klowns will eat me...

This is one of the schlock horror comedy greats in my opinion, up there with the likes of Return of the Living Dead, the original Critters, and Night of the Creeps.

It's one of those films that's probably not anything quite like what you expected it to be, and is, in fact, very entertaining. If it suits your kind of crazy anyway. Definitely a flick that all b-movie fans should see at least one anyway...

Who doesn't feel good for the little one knocking the guy's head off over the tricycle, huh? raise your hand...

You forgot to mention the catchy soundtrack with the theme song "Killer Klowns" sung by none other than the "Killer Klowns".

You got to love this movie! I wonder what ever happened to the guy who played Dave? He was also Hunk Golden from the movie "Hunk". Can't wait til that one makes it onto this website. What an original piece of 80's crap that one was.

And Did anyone else find it strange that the girl who plays Debbie always plays a girl named Debbie? I think she was in Weird Science to.

Dave? Oh, that Dave. He's had an extensive career on TV, including an appearance on an episode of "CSI: Miami," last year, and a role in the TV movie "Partners," that was just completed this year.

And as for Debbie, in over 30 roles, both in films and on TV, she has only twice played a character named Debbie and/or Deb. In "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" and, yes, in "Weird Science."
