Title: Leprechaun
Post by: mmonlux@nwrain.com on March 15, 1999, 10:28:49 AM
I kept thinking all the way through this movie that that only truly social redeeming value was that it provided a job for a dwarf who might have otherwise had to learn a living being hurled around in a bar in east Texas. No doubt it is his easily drawn on vengeful spite that brought such life to this character (enough so that the film industry felt the need for two sequels). A final note, Saturday Night Live dubed this the best movie of the year when it was first released. Of course that was a slow year for movies and this little jem was THE first movie released that year and thus was the only one to choose from at the time. While I had the remote handy on this one I didn't hit the fast forward button through those "tension building" scenes. Rather I found myself rewinding in spots just to make sure I was hearing what the little bastard had to saw.

Some good leprechaun-eye view of Aniston's behind as the little green freak chases her up a hill during a scene late in the movie (What can I say, I only rented the movie because she was in it).

Worth a mention is the leprechaun's varied assortment of transportation methods - toy racecar speeding down the road, pogo stick (also used as murder weapon), a wheelchair careening down the hallways of O'Grady's nursing home, a skateboard, and some welded together contraption, with a pitchfork on the front, that he comes bursting out of the barn with and actually knocks over a full size truck by slamming into the passenger side. He could've been a fifth member of the A-team with that thing. . .

Yeah I saw this film for tha first time I think around 1995/96(I was like 11-12 at tha time). I was up a friends house with some otha guys from my grade school and we ended up checked this film out from across tha street at a cheap video store that lets people rent demo tapes(That's gainst tha law:o).

And I came across this film.
We payed like 3 bucks to rent it, Took it home watched it on tha large 32 inch tv screen that was sitting down stairs. At this age I never knew what a b-movie was, I just consider them as: cheap films that didnt make it big time. After watching this film I was just looking around for some of tha cheapest films I could find. Thanks to this film I'm now a b-movie fan.

This film is one of my favorite b-movies of all time, After watching tha first film I was hooked on tha little green bast**d, and have now I have watched tha 2nd, 3rd and 4orth parts. I'm hoping to see anotha in tha future some time. Tha forth film was great too(Tha outer space one)!

"Me want me pot of gold u little bast**ds"
I hope every one will watch all 4 parts!! There
GGGGGRRREATTT (Tony Tiger).

I might just walk over to town right now and check out some more movies if I can find some cream.:o)

damn! I can't believe so many people hate this movie. I went and sawit in the movie theater when I was like 10 or somethin and I loved it. I agree that the sequels were crap, but this was a good horror flick that shouldn't be dissed just because it aint full of drunk teens who are killed while having sex, although I wouldnt have minded some. Warwick Davis is a God!

This movie would probably have worked better as a 3-minute sketch on some comedy show, because that's about as long as it takes for the gimmick of 'Leprechaun" to wear paper thin. It's watchable,as long as you view it in about 2 year intervals. I own it on video and haven't seen it since 1997 and am still not quite ready to sit through it again.

This little known gem has become quite a favourite at my house. Warwick Davis is a riot as the little guy with attitude. I cannot believe Jennifer Anniston was in this movie. To rate this film, in the proper perspective, I have to rate it three stars[clovers].

I watched Leprechaun this past August, and to my complete supprise it REALLY sucked ass. It wasn't bad in the "haha funny way" but in the "Death s**t" sort of way. It just sat there it didn't really do anything and... well it pretty much sucked goat dong. At least part 2 was a somewhat more hounerous with the "Leprecar" and all that. And 4 was an absoulte f**king riot! But man, well I guess this is what you get for going back to your roots. Maybe 3 will be better...

Awful. One of the worst horror films ever. Note that this film does not qualify as a camp classic because it is NOT funny. This is one that might have been funny in the context of MST3K, but camp classics need to work on their own. On its own, Leprechaun is merely irritating and a time waster.

Not bad, the only reason i got this movie is well, cause Jennifer aniston is in it. She is fine as hell, Robert gorman,(the little kid if you didn't know) is quite amuzing when he is f**king with ozzie and smacking him around.(Didn't say it was right, just funny). I'd give it a three out of five, just cause I like watching Jen saying "That's no f**kin bear" with the shotgun in her hand. And when the Leprechaun licks her leg Very nice!

There seems to be two types of opinions.

1) leprechaun was pretty good and leprechan 4 sucks.

2) Leprcchaun sucks bad and leprechan 4 kicks ass.

Well I'm firmly a type two. Leprechaun was boring stupid and juvenile. (most of the people who like it saw it when they were young so this makes sence.) The movie has promise but fails at every thing. Lep. 4. is truely low grade crap but at least it has some purity to it and isn't borinig.

Leprechaun is one of the most silliest and scariest films I've seen in a while. They just don't make movies like this anymore. I would recomend this campy classic to anyone who enjoys scary yet funny laughs. BUY IT NOW!!!!

This kind of idiot likes these films. Especially the first one. They got progressively worse, but they're all still fun to watch. An interesting little bit of trivia, Warwick Davis also played an Ewok in Return of the Jedi.

Horrible is a great way to describe LEPRECHAUN. Bad acting and crappy humor is everywhere in this bad flick. Avoid this film at all costs and it will dive down into obscurity forever.

Recently I bought a DVD player. And therefore, I needed some DVD's.

Today, out looking for some cheap DVD's I could amuse myself with, I found a pack of four horror movies on DVD for the low low price of $30. $7.50 apiece is dirt cheap for DVD's, so I sprang for it.

One of the four, and the one I just watched, was Leprechaun. Although the concept of a Leprechaun as evil was somewhat novel the movie is very much your basic stock monster-movie. I haven't seen the sequels but don't have much reason to think they'll be much better.

Well, it made me laugh. It was goofy. Whether or not Warwick Davis thought too much of his role in the Leprechaun series now, he sure seemed to have a blast while they were making it. Then again, if I was in leprechaun makeup and told that my role entailed slaughtering South Dakotans, I'd probably do the same.

Well so most people think either Lep 1 or Lep 4 sucks. I guess that makes my taste extra crappy 'cause I was a sucker for the "fiddledeediddledeedee" garbage in the first one, even liked the second one (that was the one with extra Tard Power wasn't it?), and then #4 made my jaw drop. Okay, horror/comedy is already kind of a derivative genre -- but add Midget Movie to that and it's quite an impressive cocktail. So sad that they did nothing with the Sci-Fi angle for #3, but adding 90's Blaxsploitation and Pseudo-Musical to the mix worked WONDERS. #4 is alarmingly offensive and distasteful and is certainly in my top ten Good Awful Movies. C'mon, Ice-T in a worse flick than Tank Girl? Nuff respect.

I have to say that the Leprachaun series are great! Hell, it was just a couple weeks ago when some of my friends and I Were going to have a sleepover and we were looking for a good horror movie. My friends all wanted the leprachaun. At first i thought they were crazy, but they rented it and i left while they watched. When i came up to see what it was like, I got attached to it right away. We had to see all the movies from the series. We've been renting them one by one for the past couple weeks since we started. We have to say that 2 and 4 are pretty bad but we certainly laughed are asses off at 3! Tonight were watchin 5 with ICE T.

Well, in addition to the last comment leeft by my freind at soaringfire38@hotmail.com, the thing i belive got him hooked into the series is the fact of the sheer stupididty shown in some of the caricters, I.E. Someone 'imagining' the girl he likes wants him to touch her breasts, and then sticks his head into two lawnmower blades.
Stupid acting, funny talking makes leprechaun 1&3 funney, and the Leprechaun s**t Rhym made me laugh so har,d i couldn't breath! two on the other had had no plot so it was bad, and 4............. A mix of Terminator, Star Ship Troopers, and alittle bit of NO RHYMES at all makes for a bad move. I have yet to voice my opinion on 5.

Another thing, For all you out there, why diss leprechaun???? WArwick DAvis is da mann, and he rocks, cept in 4 :) but thats forgivible, i would like to congradulate him on an ecxilint series ! ~ DC A.K.A. John Skyhound.

This movie is loads of sadistic fun! Theres something about the Leprechaun that make you kinda like him. Granted hes a killer but hey, hes only after his "pot o' gold". Jennifer Aniston is hot but is it me or does she seem to change from a Valley Girl to a Four Star General from beginning to end. Give it up to this film for providing laughs as well as the minor thrills!

I saw this movie as a teenager at the theater when it first came out. I saw it again this year at home. Where it was kinda cute and kooky the first time, the second time was, lets just say, not so enjoyable. But I must admit, it was interesting to see young jennifer again. Anyway I've also seen "2" and "4" since so maybe I'm just growing numb to "me gold" and recycled thrills and chills that weren't that thrilling or chilling the first time. But then maybe i've just grown jaded...

I enjoyed this film. And just so you know, Ozzie wasn't STUPID, he was mentally retarted. Tomorrow my mom is taking me to the video store and I'm going to rent Leprachaun 2, and if any of you think its a bad idea, speak now, I'll check later and see if there is any replies.
Later.

I just don't understand why so many people hate this movie with such ire. What exactly did you expect? It's not like the synopsis of the film or cover of the movie is decieving. Of course it's not scary, it's hilarious. I admit this movie was lame until the leprechaun busted out his tricycle. How anyone can not find the leprechaun using a pogo stick, power wheels car, skateboard, makeshift tractor, rollerskates, skateboard, and wheelchair entertaining is beyond me. I also reccomend Leprechaun in the Hood. I'm waiting for possible sequals like Leprechaun Goes Back in Time, Leprechaun Christmas, Leprechaun Goes Out West, Blackprecaun, and Leprechaun in Space. Wait, that last one is too rediculous. Why would they make a movie about a Leprechaun in outer space?

Well, as a child of six years old, i was terrified by this film and couldn't sleep for weeks. The chatn "i'm a lucky leprechaun" going round in my head. Now as i am older, i stil find the little critter quite creepy, even if the plot and acting were bad, the leprechaun still haunts me now.

This movie is fairly good but destroyed by a number of seemingly endless sequels. Some bad one liners include a death by a pogo stick and somehow a little kids tricycle seems to have enough power to knock over a truck.

I want me gold , NOW!!!!! My favorite character is Ozzie, the 600 lb retard who hangs out with a kid, who's characters really aren't explained, that's half his size and twice his smarts. My favorite part is when the leprechaun prtends to be a cat, and the idiot dad, also a retard, continually sticks his hand into a friggin' gopher mound before getting it bitten off. Great movie for the kids!

I loved the Leperchaun movis. I think that all of you idiots that say the movie sucked are full of s**t. You just dont know a good movie when you see one. Warwic Davis should get the respect for being such a great actor and having to sit through all the s**t that people say about him and his movies. I mean dude it is like my favorite movie of all time. And just because you dont like the movie dosent mean that you have to diss Warwic.

I really don't understand how you can say this movie isn't a fun one to watch it's a good comedy...but i don't think that's what the director was going for, and it teaches you that if you want to look badass you need to get someone to tow you behind a jeep and sling yourself through a fence...

no because the leprechaun couldn't kill the guy so long as he had the gold coin, thereby taking away all sense of danger. In the first one, every character was vunerable.

I never would have considered watchin part 2...if I didn't just learn that there's a part 5. (Don't tell me there's a part 6, yet, my brain still needs time to recover.)

I forgot that Aniston was in this one, probably because she's cute, never hot, sure as hell never beautiful.

What I do remember, though, is the pain I felt when the 'little green sonovab***h' reached up through the cabinet and pinched the guy's junk.

He just reaches up and pinches it, the way horror/comedy always does to big budget action/comedy.
