Title: Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare
Post by: Nazzie on November 25, 2006, 04:09:49 PM
I must say that there is a special place in my heart or this movie. I grew up during the Heavy Metal Phase in the 80's and this movie was right up there with Hallloween Party Fliks my friends and I watched in High School like Nightmare on Elm Street, Trick or Treat, Friday the 13th, etc. I sadly do not own a copy of the movie but I would really love to get one. Can anyone help me?
P.S. I am in no way connected to this movie like Thor! (How cool is it that he actually met a member of KISS?), Wolfboy ad all the other guys who've posted here who have been involved with this truly enteraining B movie but you can all send me email anyway if you'd like even though I can't dish on this movie.

The first (and greatest) Rock/Horror/Religious/Porn flick ever! the best use of clay-mation since gumby, in a movie no less! Stig sounded like he was shiprecked on an island with a VCR as a child and learned to talk from watching "The Road Warrior" videos. Believe it or not, our superhero THOR was a rock warrior who blew up hot water bottles and bent mike stands as a stage act in the 70's, and he still makes thunderous cd's. One can visit this semi-god at: www.thorkorr.com

In the UK this movie is called 'The Edge of Hell' and it is one of the worst movies ever. I particularly like Thor's recital of the names of the devil, and the gratuitous product placement for coca-cola. See you again old scratch!

Oh MY GOD!!! I cant believe this page exists!! Finally i can now have a sample of the greatest song of all time, "We live to Rock!" Truely brillant, reminds me of the many late nights me and my friends spent watching this film, yes we've seen it more than once - you know who you are!!

I thought rock n roll nightmare aka {edge of hell} was pretty cool I know the special effects are cheesy but I really liked the story line. My favorite song is the song from the last fight the challenge I wish groups today sounded that good nowadays you can't even understand what they are saying. The sock puppets were funny too along with the demon at the end but if you turn the contrast a little darker some parts won't look fake. I really liked the movie and the music I give it a 5.

I worked on "Rock'n'Roll Nightmare" in make-up and special effects (the term used loosely)It's not surprising that the director of this "movie" also wrote another bad movie (Another 48 hours with Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy)

I was depressed at the time and although it may not be up to par with say... "The Thing With Two Heads", most people who I worked with were really cool.

We had a blast.

Thor! Is my hero!!! Look at what I found here! (http://www.popsmear.com/popculture/features/18/thor/)

"Born in Vancouver and a bodybuilder by the age of seven, young Jon Mikl Thor found solace from the rigors of working out by rocking out to his favorite tunes. "We had a weight set in the basement where my older brother showed me how to train," the rugged one remembers. "I started listening to metal and hard rock like Zeppelin and Black Sabbath and trained to it. I found that it was a great way to pump up, and eventually I won tournaments like Teenage Mr. America and Mr. Junior Canada. I went on to win Mr. USA and Mr. Canada when I was 18 years old.""

and

"Along the way he also managed to star in three classic low budget B-movies (one featuring Adam West, no doubt!), grab the title of Mr. USA, dance in a nudie musical, do time as a male stripper, and be crushed with a hammer by a masked gladiator foe named Mettalus. More than a hard rock heavy hitter, Thor may just be the Dirk Diggler of heavy metal."

Don't you just love it?!

wow...forget 'rocktober blood' forget 'black flowers'. this is the crap heavy metal horror movie you need to see. from the opening sequence of the van driving and driving and driving, i knew this was going to be a special bad movie experience, and i was not disappointed. auteur jon mikl thor's quest for fame wasn't limited to this effort. no, my friends, there's more. he also starred in 'zombie nightmare' featuring no less a talent than adam 'batman' west and tia carrere in an early role. it's pretty bad, too. and he had a band named thorkestra! i know this because there was an entry on him in a little pocket guide to heavy metal i found once in a bookstore...i wonder where he is now...
oh, heavy metal makes me laugh...

Rock N Roll Nightmare is one of the most important films in the history of cinema.... It not only combines the tremendous acting abilities of the THOR but his musical stylings as well. After it release in 87' and reviews of "Box Office Poison," Rock N Roll Nightmare found a place in all of our hearts and is destined to remain on the AFI's list of 100 Greatest Movies of all time.....

The Most Important Movie Of All Time, Period!

I've been searching for reviews on this movie for so long! It is by far my favorite bad movie of all time.  I make it my duty to show all of my friends this wonderful piece of garbage.  Those who like this should also check out the other two films by the same director: Black Roses (more hair band trash), and The Jitters (canadian chinese vampire trash).  Also, look for the king of rock, Jon-Mikl Thor!, in Zombie Nightmare and Recruits.  They both suck too.  But in a good way.
Best line: "but it sounded like the scream came from down here...you're right. Let's check up stairs."

Hey! I love this movie! hey! I directed this movie. Seven days, $53,000 budget, 35mm -- show me the money -- let's see YOUR film, brothers. Started my career, and had a ball. s**t, you're all still talking about it! PS. Those monsters were scuplyed, molded latex, not socks. Socks would have been cheaper. Damn I should have just used sock puppets!

Well, you can say what you want about this flick, but the final sequence is possibly the single most entertaining ever captured on film.  I lay awake at night wondering how ANYONE could ever come up with this and truly believe in it.  I imagine THOR had to pitch it to some people, and those people must have said YES! It makes me lose faith in humankind.  When will you ever learn.

This is the greatest movie and I will tell you why. First of all This movie has it all. Sex, Action, Canada, Monsters and more corney dialog than that Fred Savage movie "The Wizard". Secondly, the plot. You watch this movie then are taken by complete surprise with the ending. Who would have guessed that ending? I understand that this movie is one of the cheesiest of all time, but it is by far the most entertaining cheesy movie. I am glad to see others on here enjoyed it as much as me because I haven't met anyone who has ever seen this movie.

Hello everybody! This is great! I was in this movie. I played the WolfBoy. I'm 22 years old now, and like all of you, there's nothing I enjoy more than railing on this movie. Since then, we have all moved on to Hollywood, and are now making BIG bad movies , rather than flicks like "Nightmare". I was amazed that there are people out there who were actually into thi s s**t, and it makes me wonder if I actually have any fans.  Let me know. I'm longer the wolf-boy, baby, now I'm the Wolf-Man. Write me an e-mail if you want, at JDWOLFE78@aol.com, and we can all talk about this cinematic masterpiece which we call "Rock n' Roll Nightmare".  I can give you all the lowdowns on what everybody's doing now, except of course for Director John Fasano, who may be dead. Nobody really knows  his true whereabouts, .. nobody even really knows if he truly exists... If you want more info, write me... later --

Yep, I played Stig... 14 years ago... CRIKEY!  Just to set the record straight, the gag was supposed to be that Stig was not really Australian, that he simply put on the accent to get laid. That's why after he gets demonized the accent disappears. Unfortunately, the gag didn't quite make it to the film...

We all had a great time making this thing. We spent two months in John Fasano's basement sculpting and molding those puppets with a budget of one dollar. Literally. Then 2 weeks in a barn in Canada. It was damn cold and we had no money, but we had chicks willing to drop their tops.

For more info, feel free to email ol' Stiggy directly at jimcirile@aol.com. Roight!

I am so delighted to see that Rock 'n Roll Nightmare--my first film, has become such a legend it its own time! The producers are in fact so overwhelmed by the response of the films fans that we are now preparing a "rockumentary" about Rock'n Roll Nightmare, to be called: The Edge of Hell: The Making of Rock' Roll Nightmare. You'll not only see deleted scenes (me being dragged by a demon into the refrigerator!) but also hear interviews with Stig, Thor, the Wolf Boy, and all your favorite characters--and learn how the film changed their lives, and what they're doing now. You'd be surprised! Anyway, I'll keep you posted about the film's release--a must seen for Rock "n Roll Nightmare fans--as we continue into production. If only we could find the film's director!
Anyone with messages for the cast members or queries about the film in general--suggestions of what you'd like to see in the Rockumentary--can be E-mailed to me. Rock 'On!
Cynthia Cirile
Producer, Rock 'N Roll Nightmare
(and also the mother who becomes the oven monster.)

P.S Yes, you could easily duplicate the films effects with a box of bisquick. Most of them were made with Bisquick and jello is my very own basement!

Oh, I forgot to mention. I kill someone in the movie by grabbing her by the hips and pulling her off camera.

It took longer to put the make-up off than it did to shoot half the movie. I shoulda put it on myself.

Why on earth our local video store got rid of "Girly" and "Lair of the White Worm" and not "Rock n' Roll Nightmare" I will never know. Perhaps they have something against the English.
I watched this one at a horror movie night (which my friends and I have every friday) and it was so terrible I had to see it again. I was going to the bathroom during the infamous Thor's butt scene the first time, but during the second go-around, was subjected to this torture. Did anyone else think that with the mascara after Thor's hair got wet he looked like another woman kissing that redhead. Yup, pretty bad. And what about that girl who played the keyboard...
So why would anyone think this was a good idea to make this movie? I don't know, but then, I really don't like heavy metal. Unless you enjoy the music, this film had nothing that could be considered good about it. The idea that a studie was built in a barn with concert lights and all and the band dressed in concert gear for the rehersal was the most rediculous part.
"Have no fear. Wonder-manager is here!"
"Wonder-manager?"
"Yeah, It's a wonder he's our manager"
(insert idiotic laughter here)
I had almost as much fun writing this as I did watching the film. P.S. All you fellows and ladies who claim to have been involed with making this movie, I don't belive it. Everyone involved with "Rock n' Roll Nightmare" is now making billions of dollers and having intimate relationships with beautiful signifigant others while acting in hollywood blockbusters. They just don't have time for fans anymore.

Wow!!! this is the greatest movie ever!!!!  I first glimpsed bits of it when I was young as MY DAD watched it on rented video!  For years I remembered the fantastic ending, then as a great fan of bad movies I sought it out years later, and even found a copy for $5...Meanwhile I turned the cinematic gem onto my good friend Swykkpac (See his comment above) and this brought on our unholy tradition of seeking out bad movies wherever they may hide....Even downloaded the soundtrack off Napster, and burned me a CD...Holy cow.....I too live to rock!

Man I love this movie with all my heart. My favourite song is "Energy", if you listen to the words close enough you can tell it's about milk. One thing that no one has mentioned - YOU NEVER SEE ANYONE DIE IN THIS THING! They just disappear. That's not horrific. Also the very first scene, with the family getting killed has some of the most nauseating camera work imaginable. I've rented this movie from my local video shack at least 10 times, and everytime it gets funnier and funnier. What about Thor's stilte "o-KAY Honey"? &holy s**t that drummer's accent was bad. Like the reviewers, I was sure it was supposed to be Australian, but some other people have suggested Cockney? There's so many little things to discuss...I could go on and on and on....THOR'S NAKED SHOWER BUTT! The score! The handcuffs hanging from the van's rear view mirror! I have to stop typing now......

I don't see why this movie is reviewed on this site and somethingawful.com. I'll admite it's not The Exorcist but can't you all see how SCARY is really is? I think the eerieness comes from that this is a fun loving group and we fall in love with them almost straight away. They are Rock N Roll gods but charicters. I even wrote in the confused Austrailian guy who comes to think he is british. I use alot of our music in the movie so you fall inlove with the music these guys make and your ROOTING for them to make some more. But then these people are in a house with demons that mean them harm and mean to deprive the world of their music. ou always know something bad is going to happen but you never know when. I think one of the scariest scenes is when i'm writing a song and the demon jumps to attack me but i drop me pen and manage to duck the attack, phew. The soundtrack is excellent, only the best music and the twist at the end, bet you didn't see THAT coming :).
Peace out old scratches.

Man, I just finished watching that flick, and all I can really say is that it stunk!  The dialogue was terrible, the "special" effects were godawful, and the music...I think they wrote the movie AROUND the music, just so they could ensure that Thor and crew could get the most licks in...oh, and that final fighting scene...NEVER have I seen something so anti-climatic...thor and satan grapple for a few minutes while the song plays, then thor chokes satan, and someone lights a flare in front of the camera to tell us satan is going back to hell...awful!  Needless to say, this movie had me in stitches from beginning to end, and it makes a marvellous addition to my movie collection!  I love it!  A definite shoe-in for it's four slime rating.

I'm a collector of bad rock and roll horror movies, and this movie ranks right up there with "Rocktober Blood" and
"Hard Rock Zombies" as the GREATEST bad rock and roll horror film ever!!  The schtick where Thor! keeps calling the main deamon "Bub", then finally calls him "Beelzebub" had me in tears from laughing so hard!!

BTW, if anyone knows of any other truly spectacular movies in this genre, PLEASE e-mail me with info -- I'm always on the lookout to add to my collection.  Also, I'd be glad to compare lists and swap tapes!

Rock'n'Nightmare is the ultimate piece of s**t. I used one of Thor's lines in the end of them film as my senior quote in my year book: "I am bound by this law to strike you from this place. It's my job, your end... this place!" I love it because it doesn't make any sense. I actually had a Fasano trilogy party when I nabbed a copy of his rarest works off ebay, The Jitters! All of John's films have a sort of vomit-like feel to them. But it's a vomit that we're willing to swallow and enjoy. I'm excited to see Darkness falls with John doing the writing and producing, but I'm affraid he's only achieved a level of making just plain bad movies now. He could of been the next Ed Wood! But that's cool, at least the guy is making a fortune. If the rumors are true about Jon Mikl Thor producing a Rock'n'Roll Nightmare 2, I will die a happy man. Just imagine, a 50 year old fat guy running around in spikey underwaer doing battle with satan (a puppet on a stick).

Oh my god. A place where loyal fans can praise the one and only, "Rock 'N' Roll Nightmare"!!!! I can not begin to tell you all how much my friends and I WORSHIP this film. It is without a doubt the most wonderful bad movie ever made. I'll never forget the night that we rented it by chance for the first time. The amazing ending sequence simply blew us away. I have never laughed so hard in all my life. And now years later, I have discovered that a SEQUEL is being made?!! UNBELIEVABLE! Of all the films I have ever wanted to see a sequel to, this is it. I want to say thanks to everyone who is involved in making this happen.

My love for this movie cannot be expressed in words. One night my friends and I actually spent hours looking up the cast members on the internet so that we could call them and chat. The only guy we were able to contact was the dude who played "Carl" (The owner of the barn), but it was so cool to talk to him and hear his stories about what it was like making the movie. My brother and I each own our own copies of this movie, plus a movie poster and the original Soundtrack LP! The soundtrack is of course fantastic, and I have converted it to CD. Best of all, I created the "Rock 'N' Roll Nightmare Megamix", a kick ass song full of cool effects and audio samples straight from the film. If anyone is interested in an MP3 just drop me a line, I'd love to share it with you! Thanks to all of you for appreciating something as wonderful as this hilarious film. Id love to chat about the movie with anyone, so feel free to email me!

Hey! I love the adoration for my early works, but my "Ed Woodness" was based on these fillms being made for a dollar -- a dollar! RNRN cost fifty thousand dollars! You can't even buy a decent SUV for that much money! I just wanted to make a movie with monsters and tits, and couldn't afford good looking ones of either type!  And for the record, most of my movies, like ANOTHER 48 HRS, TOMBSTONE, and ALIEN 3 were NOT bad movies!

Megiddo and Universal Soldier 2, that's another story!

Damn...this is a weird moment, give me a sec here....

Okay.

Saw this movie way back in the day, sometime in the 80's. I think I was a senior in h.s. You know the drill; living with mom/dad, my room was my world, no friggin money, anyhoo... Rented this movie from the local movie shop. Had ZERO idea what a turd it would be. And, I had no idea that it would always linger in my mind, decades later, as what a piece of s**t movie it was.

Well, imagine my surprise, after sitting here staring at my computer screen, nothing on my mind, when Rock-n-Roll Nightmare pops in my head and I do a search on it.

...and here you guys are! *LOL*

Now I'm part of a teeny-tiny group of people that hate/love this film but...WE ALL SAW IT!!!!

...will this ever be released on dvd?

And, any of you fans that have digital captures of some of the ladies in the movie with their tops off, feel free to send them to my email addy. ;^)

Of course, if any of you ladies that were actually IN the movie, have any pics of yourselves, send 'em my way so I can reminisce...

This is a blatant vanity project for Jon-Mikl Thor.  The fact that his bandmates and their girlfriends were only "shadows" that he conjured up is almost a Freudian statement. But at least Jon-Mikl only spent $50,000 to make his vanity project.  Most musicians spend much more to produce their cinematic ego-trips.  Look at Neil Diamond (Jazz Singer), Brittney Spears (Crossroads), Mariah Carey (Glitter),  Vanilla Ice (Cool as Ice), the Village People (Can't Stop the Music), and the Spice Girls (Spice World).
The funniest part of Nightmare is the scene were Thor is tearing apart the rubber cyclops-starfish.  He has the facial expression of a man struggling with a very difficult bowel movement!

THOR LOGGED ON HERE AND DEFENDED HIS MOVIE! That is so rock and roll! Thor apparently married some couple in Edmonton recently. I would love Thor to do the ceremony when I get married, but only if my friends can throw rubber starfish at him while it's all going on. In response to Chip, I've had the following happen: in my local video store they're doing a huge sale on all their VHS, but they're keeping Rock and Roll Nightmare. I asked them "Why??" hoping I could get it for 3$ and they told me it was because it gets rented at least once every three months..YEAH BUT IT'S ME THAT'S RENTING IT! I recently had an opportunity to show this to a friend of mine who was visiting and he looked like he was going to CRY when Thor started his "I am the Archangel TRITON" bit....

RNRN is, by far, the best of it's kind. You should check out Shock 'em Dead for some more laughs. Though, JMT isn't involved...sad. It's hard to pinpoint the best part of RNRN...the end is, without a doubt, the best ending i have ever seen. Flawless. The best song is Energy...but it's a tough call to make. The fact that they all get "Rocked Out" to rehearse in a barn is fantastic as well...oh, which leads me to mention the "state of the art 8-track recording studio" again, flawless. The scene where the kid takes a gainer while sprinting across the yard...hilarious...you know that wasn't supposed to happen...i'm laughing just thinking about it. My friends and i have seen this movie more times than we should admit...I will not stop until all of the B-rock/horror movies are unearthed...and my new purpose in life is to find "The intercessor". If ANYONE knows how i can get a copy of it or where i can find it, email me...i have money...real american money! I have already found some more titles by reading this forum...but "The Intercessor" is priority #1.

A sincere thank you to RNRN, for giving me some of the best times with my friends.

And you guys should check out Shock 'em Dead staring Traci Lords...good stuff.

"I'm just locking up the van!" dude...there's no way she could possibly hear you...or even see you...but damn, you are the nicest metal god i've ever seen...in every movie you're in...JMT ROX...though i found a picture of a "more recent" JMT and his long hair is no more...and the crowd went, "awwwww"

Riding down the Highway is an amazing Metal song. Perfect timing for it to be played during the Starfish scene because it really helps emphasize the utter fear that Thor is going through in this scene. This movie kicks my ass off the face of the Earth. Make sure to listen closely to the cameo mentioning of Rod Stewart. And don't forget the redeeming Sam Raimi camera shot at the beginning of the credits. Hopefully Thor has more filmmaking up his studded thong.

I have little to add here that has not already been said, but I too love this movie.  Why is it that each one of us feels like we are the only ones?

Something I like to do is have it running during a party with the sound turned down.

In Korea, the title of this movie was translated to "The Swamp of The Hell". Published in VHS, but hard to find in a regular video shop. I bought one from a flee market.

This is definitely my No. 1 "trash movie". When I first watched the scene that Thor! turned out to be an "angel", I got so much shock. Sill it remains the most shock ever from the movie ever.

Is there any online used vhs stores where I can buy Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare? I haven't seen this movie 15 years! I can't find it for purchase online, not even on ebay. I thought I hit the jackpot at a local used vhs store, I saw it for sale for $2 and of course bought it. What I really bought was the box, the tape (I shoulda check first, grrrr) was Nightmare On Elm St. 3! I was soooo p**sed and the cashier said No Exchanges,it was also written at the checkout counter,w/ Sales Are Final. So anyone who knows of a used vhs store online that has this movie, please send me an email.

Okay. For all you RNRN heads out there -- the film has finally been restored from the original negative and put on DVD with commentary track (As bad as the film) by Director JF and Star Thor. It will be released (or escape) in January or February from SYNAPSE FILMS, the guys who have basket case and street trash. They were also given like three hours of "behind the scenes" video shot in the day, and hopefully that will make it onto this "Ultimate collector's edition of one of  the lamest movies ever made"

So yeah, can't wait for the RNRN DVD (in HD?). Picked up a copy of "The Intercessor: Another Rock n Roll Nightmare"...man, what a terrible dissapointment. Though there are some hilarious parts...it's beyond being bad in a good way, it really does suck. - especially considering "RNRN" is in the title. I mean, jesus - i would've started a fundraiser if you were really that hard up for prop money (AND A FKING 35mm CAMERA!!). God damn...I was seriously p**sed...still am. I mean...get a real camera so the cheap plastic toys and flaccid rubber armour wasn't so damn insulting to those of us who have followed this for so damn long...and looked forward to it for so damn long. God damn.

The original RNRN is still the best and probably always will be.

John you are the man and I don't give three craps what people say about this movie cause I still watch the thing over and over again as this movie has what so many lack these days and that is the element of what rock was like in the 80's. You guys captured that feel not only in the music, but hey check out the q-tip box and the edge shaving gel in the bathroom..........even the coke can is antique.  People who say this movie sucks take life way too serious and this movie was not intended for you.  This movie is for the young and the young at heart who know how to have a good time and not over analyze everthing to death.  Check  out my band at www.scarabismusic.com.  Believe it or not, I saw this movie when I was a little kid and it left such a huge impression on me I devoted my life to rock n roll.......we live we live to rock.........we live we live to rock. rock on fellow rockers........... I will definitely be on the look out for Rock n roll nightmare 2 the intercessor.  AAAAALLLRIGHT John good s**t.  be good and come check us out and hang bro.

I just finished with the special edition DVD of this. The commentary track features Thor! and director John Fasano, and they fortunately have a pretty good sense of humor about the kind of movie they ended up making, but they also clearly have fond memories of the fun they had making it. There are plenty of good stories, from the revelation that this movie was made on a bet that you couldn't make a feature-length film on 35mm for $53,000 to the "guest breasts" who refused to remove their tops once they got on set.

Then there's the lengthy video footage of the "wolf child" being made up, which gives some great insight into what it's like to try to deal with putting extensive makeup on a young child. Highly recommended disk, overall.

In Spain (where I'm from) Its title (al filo del infierno) sugestted frightening cold-glaring demon-boys, head-spinning little girls, and deliciously scary demonic fiends from Beeyoooond Reeeeeason and Saaaaanityyyyy...  Well, That was what I got.  At least, the latter.  Obviously.  Reason and Sanity probably have to commit suicide if they have to make a minimun of sense of such a mesh of concepts: Teenage-Werewolves And rockers And a  Supposedly-Allmighty-but-Sadly-Looking-Ill Lord-of-starfish- (bud)demons And Jim-Henson-worst-NIghtmare-Of-a-Kitchen-lurking("Oh,looks! It's sooooo cute!It seems they made with a socket..."said one of my friends)-and-(suposedly-) Maniac-killer-Entity...  Just one piece of a good scene, and it hasn't be the truly magnificient Masterpiece of the zzzrated genre.
how much I loved it!!!!!

Thor was f**kin' sweeet! He once played a (now legendary) show at the Lyceum in London in 1984 with W.A.S.P. and Venom! \m/

I appreciate you appreciating this amazing piece of crap but I have to ask; How exactly did you review it without using the term "alien penis demons" or mentioning that you can see "Satan's" strings in the final battle & how much THOR! looks like a cross between He-Man and David Bowie!?!?!
