Title: Mongrel
Post by: Dan Toporowski on November 25, 2006, 04:09:49 PM
How could you fail to mention that 'Mongrel' is possibly the only motion picture to feature a guy playing on a 'Deep Throat' pinball machine? Seeing this incredibly rare coin operated amusement device on screen is (for this pathetically pinball obsessed viewer anyways) the highlight of the flick.

Robert A Burns also took lead acting role in the 1987 movie 'Confessions of a Serial Killer'. Based loosely on the true story of the demented Henry Lee Lucas, Burns proves that not only is he a better art director than director, he's also a better actor than director.

"Mongrel" director Robert Burns was more successful as an ART director, for "The Howling," "The Hills Have Eyes," and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." "Mongrel" was the only movie he directed. Woof.

Actually, there IS a variety of blue corn! It's what they make blue-corn tortilla chips from, though it's rarely available in stores. Also a variety of red corn, but you have to special-order the seeds. www.burpee.com should have more info on the red variety.

Burns also served as art director for the low budget thriller Tourist Trap.  Art direction was his obvious strength.

It is somewhat humorous to see a pre Shocker and X-Files Mitch Pileggi playing the bumpkin Woody.  And for you fans of production gaffs, take a close look at the end, when the landlord blows Jerry away with his trusty shotgun.  Jerry clearly propels himself forward BEFORE the gun actually goes off!  Whoops.

You know the feeling..you see the title, nifty box and whoa marked down to 5.00 .. the anticipation of at least a pleasurable couple of hours (ok i know i have no life!) and then it starts and that sinking feeling that mongrel is a d- -o- g !! At some point I knew that it was going to be the movie or me and the movie was way ahead. I tried to help with the dialogue (speak up shut up oh god just die ) With the help of alot of scotch  -( straight out the bottle, no time for a glass) I did make it to the end tho. Somewhere some mothers are very ashamed..
