Title: Eegah!
Post by: Tyler on November 25, 2006, 04:10:12 PM
Oh Man!
The posts are right, Eegah should not be watched without the Mst3k boys. Rough stuff.
I was pondering some theories behind this movie and I have reached this conclusion...the reason Eegah was made was to promote the flawed premise that Arch Hall Jr. is a leading man and...ugh...a teen heartthrob.
Think about it. He got top billing on the movie poster, the camera focuses in on his rancid face for extended shots more  (Just as he did in the other Arch Hall Jr. vehicle "Wild Guitar).
Arch has gotten his share of critisism for his facial features ('Cabbage Patch Elvis), and while some of it is justified, and while is acting is subpar and his songs in the movie are even worse, his was not the worst crimes of this move.
That distinction belonged to Marlynn Manning (Roxy). First of all, Arch is butt-ugly but he looks somewhat like a teenager. Roxy looks about 35.
  And those lines... remember these?
Mr Miller- "If we told them that a caveman were to actually exist, they'd hunt him down like an animal"
ROXY - "No they wouldn't! We wouldn't let them!"

I've only seen the MST3K version of Eegah, and that is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen in my life.  I don't know if I'm up for the original though.  I learned later that the famous "Watch out for snakes" line was actually the movie's director warning the actors to watch out for snakes as they acted out the scene.  I don't see why they couldn't have edited that out, but barring any scenes in the original that may have been left out of the MST3K version, that's the only funny part in the entire movie not contributed by Joel and the bots.  WATCH OUT FOR SNAKES!

OK.  Let me get this straight Arch Hall Jr. (Tom) is dating Roxy, whose father is Arch Hall Sr.  Anyone else disturbed by this?  Isn't this indirect incest?

This movie distinguishes itself with the worst background scenery since the silent era.  I refer here to the interior of Egah's cave, wherein one can clearly see, in full view, the "stone" peeling away from the plywood walls like the poorly painted burlap/canvas that it is!!  I mean, the camera positively LINGERS on this obvious error.  gawd . . .

Easily one of the worst movies ever made.  The MST3K version is the only watchable one.  Stemlow.  Oh, and watch out for snakes.

Well, this movie was certainly interesting. I definitely reccommend people with weak stomachs not to watch this because Arch Hall Jr. is not a pleasant person to look at. i have seen a number of his awful movies and i have had to fight myself not to jump off the couch, take the movie out of the VCR and hurl it off a cliff. I have seen both the MST3K and the original version and they both make me vomit but if you really must see one i would suggest the MST3K version its a little bit better. I love the part where ol' Arch is working in the gas station and one of the robots in the front yells out "sorry about my face" as he turns around to face the camera for the first time in the movie. And for the record i did taste a bit of vomit in my mouth as Arch faced the camera.GOOOOOO! hes an ugly one.Oh yea and WATCH OUT FOR SNAKES!

I agree with Demonicuss

You should watch the MST3K "Eegah!" version.

"Did i mention my tyres are filled with water?"

An absolute gem...

OUCH! Even with Joel and the 'bots (MST3K) EEGAH! hurts....A LOT! You've already read about the hell Andrew Borntreger went through watching it, Un-MST-ified. So don't watch it without the company of the Crow T. Robot, Tom Servo, and Joel Robinson! I'll now leave you all with some of my favorite parts of this Mistie Episode:
The opening credits where we're treated to the cast and crew's names crudely painted on the mummified remains of cavemen. Crow blurts out, "Welcome to the Crypt...heeheehee...we've...DUG something up for you...heeheeheehee...Stay Tuned for "Dream On"..it's the BREAST SHOW on Television....heehee...kill me."\\

A random voice yells "Watch out for Snakes!" this becomes a favorite phrase for Joel and the bots  (even into the next episode of "Mitchell").

Tom Servo refers to Arch Hall Junior (Roxy's ugly boyfriend) as a "Cabbage Patch Elvis."

Roxy is picked up by Eegah so much that Joel says "she should have a handle!"

I'm a big MST3K fan...but, this one was still painful for me.  Not Manos painful, mind you.  Then again, nothing is Manos painful.  Still, there were quite a few laughs to be had.  And, I would like to add that I hate Arch Hall, Sr.  And Arch Hall, Jr.  Hate them.  A lot.

Richard Kiel finally comes out of the cave to witness horrible society, and the requisite dumb humans come to make his stay as uncomfortable as possible.  Out of all the girls the sad caveman could fall for, he picks the one who looks most like an MTV teenybopper, with brains to match. The MST3k treatment is almost, but not quite as hilarious as Kiel's dime-store beard attached to his head w/a string.

the bone probably came with the skin of whatever he wears in the movie (bear?, bison?,? in the desert?) This movie is just one of those magic moments of sheer disbelief that only a really bad, really really cheap monster movie can create. And the song (dedededumdum!) If you are looking for the trifecta of bad movies,  I would nominate plan 9, robot monster and Eegah!

I also saw the MST version, and my best freind and i laughed our asses off the whole time. It was hilarious!! *EEGAH CHACKA EEGAH EEGAH EEGAH CHACKA* another of my favorite parts was when they were going "rooooooxxxxyyyy!"

This is the funniest movie I've eves seen in my life, I'm gonna try to have a bumper sticker made for me that says "honk if you love eegah"  References from the movie are now common in my everday life:  If I'm looking for someone - Roxxxxxyyy!,  When I do something stupid - "Sorry, sir; but I'm kind of an idiot."  Damn, I just wet myself

You wouldn't get me to watch the Non-MST3K version even if you paid me to see it. I just loved it when Eegah knocked out poor Arch Hall Jr.(Gag!) with one punch. I was hoping that Eeegah would have bludgeoned the "Cabbage Patch Elvis" as he was singing a song in the middle of the desert, with musical and vocal accompaniment mind you, just to put us out of our misery. And watch out for snakes!

Saw this one years ago...missed the MST3K cover of it...I'd love to see that. The reason Arch Hall Jr. got into movies and music was his father Arch Sr. Dad was the money and motivation behind the scenes. He also wrote directed and even acted in several of them under stage names. He invisioned Archie boy as a new Frankie Avalon...maybe Frankie Avalon if he'd been jabbed in the face with a hot poker. Sorry Arch...damn... you were an ugly kid...I should know, I was too. Any one with a Fender in his hands in those days was passed off as a crazy Rock-n-Roll wonder...sorry here Arch...I CAN play guitar...But I can't sing any better than you did. Maybe if I had a star crossed old man footing the bill, I'd been in a movie like this one instead of you...and people would be picking on me all the time and you'd get some peace. Arch Jr. went on to become a piliot and that was the last I ever heard about him. I loved Kiels beard...I think they bought that sucker at Woolworths. When I saw this film years ago, I too laughed at the thirty something girl as a teenager...the next time I saw it, on video...I said well, at least she was working in movies when she was my age...now, twenty years or so later...damn! Reasonably hot chick for her place and time...regardless of how old she was supposed to be. I wonder if she's in a wheelchair somewhere now? Anyhow...this movie is boring, like a lot of famous "bad" films, it's more fun to talk about than to actually sit through. Arch wasn't any worse than the grade Z wannabes then or now. The movie had Scientists, Chicks, Dune Buggies, Fender Guitars, Rock-n-Roll, Guns, Big Scary Dude with Club...and SiFi Plot linked (picarously) with a Biblical message. It sucked up Drive-In dollars. Going to the Drive-In for these things was a blast. I was a tag along little brother in those days, and the memories are fond ones. But on TV, even through video, it's not worth the time to watch unless you have people over and do the MST3K treatment on it. Then it can be fun. Remember, see it only with a group of like thinking bad film buffs...or you'll be sorry.

Even without the MST3K treatment, this movie is a true cult classic.  AFAIK, this was a cult classic almost as soon as it was released.  Everyone must see this at least once!

Richard Kiel is my favorite actor!  ANd I curse Arch Hall Jr for being so gruesome, even though it's not his fault, but I don't care.  Kids can be so cruel.  I know a girl who's liscense plate frame reads "Honk if you love Eegah!"  Also Arch Hall Jr and Richard Kiel were in another movie together.  It's called "Nasty Rabbit" and I think it may be about nuclear war, but I haven't seen it yet so I don't know.
Watch out for snakes!

Arch Hall Jr. may not be a great actor or singer, but I loved every film he was in including his swansong NASTY RABBIT. I really sensed that he tried his best. I guess to really enjoy his films you had to be 15 or 16 when they first came out.

The weirdest part of this movie is Roxy trying to avoid Eegah's advances while her old man reassures her, basically, that the caveman isn't such a bad guy, really, once you get to know him and he's only trying to be friendly.  I think it's a not-so-subtle hint that he'd rather have her marry Eegah than her pasty, strange-haired boyfriend, and can you blame him? At least Eegah won't be playing that awful guitar.

I saw the MST3K movie and that is the funniest movie i have ever seen...me and my friends watch it almost everytime we have a sleepover. we've practically memorized the whole thing. but yes it is a bad bad movie. you know with the incest toads, the random animals, and the director yelling "watch out for snakes." its just bad. but it still is the funniest movie i have ever seen in my entire life.  but arch hall jr. is the ugliest man i have ever seen...and the stupidest. AND WHY IN GOD'S NAME IS ROXY'S HAIR SO POOFY?!

Oh Eegah, how misunderstood you are.
It's such a shame to be rejected whilst competeing with the likes of Arch Hall Jr. who is truly one of the ugliest men in B-Movie history. When one thinks that he could have been a rock star....
This is undoubtely the funniest MST 3K movie, but you must be seasoned to listen to Arch's voice whining out "Roxy. Roxy". I suggest 5 years of sitting behind the piccillo.

I happened to watch the film yesterday whilst flicking through the sky channels on my tv, watched it from the bit where Tommy and Roxy were taking a nap in the desert. I found it funny when Eegggahhh got frightened from the Tommy's transister [or maybe he got frightened by Tommy's hair...lol] Th film was quite good considering it was a low budget movie and parts of it did make me laugh like when Roxy was shaving Eeeeegahhh whilst Tommy was worried out of his brain[as if that's going to transform Eegahs horrid looks] As for Tommy, peculiar looking as he may be, he's a musical genius, he's songs were ace, as for Eeeeggurgha, he ought to start school. The ending was sad though and I nearly cried at the bit when Eegah fell into the pool

I've seen the Mst3k version, and I've tried watching it on its own. Unfortnetly, I regret doing it. This is one awful film and just absolutely goofy. This is one of the few (if not, many) Mst3k-riffed films I cannot watch on its own. This is my personal opinion. I wonder how many boos this film got when it was in the theaters.

the mst3k episode with this film is one of my favorites.
arch Hall jr. looks just grody. He really does look like Johnny Quest.
That roxy is ok looking, just not good enough to hold my attention. lol.
