Title: Voodoo Academy
Post by: Claire on December 12, 2001, 03:54:15 AM
Oh my God! Now I HAVE to see this movie!  Finally, equally opportunity for the ladies after having to sit quietly through countless horror movie female T&A shots from male hetero directors. Hunks in tighty whites means payback time!!

Just a comment on your review, by far one of the funniest you've written! My gosh, I can't stop laughing at your last comment about the video clip. "Goody"

So girls in skimpy clothes and/or underwear are okay but guys in it are just disgusting? I'm not saying this is a good movie, I haven't even seen it but you're ignoring the whole picture here.

I always heard of it as tighy whities not whity tighties....hmmmm..strange...  Anyway I think you can tell who the supposed audience of this movie is.  I mean a tribute to "Wizard of Ox", young cute men in briefs...Hello!  It's for the other group that buy's Britney Spears records and goes to see N'Sync concerts...and I don't mean teenage girls...

*lol*

This film is quite bad - except as an exploitation flick - and the young guys are oh so cute - it's reverse sexism at its finest.  By the way, the VHS version is such a disappointment.  Get the DVD right away.  There aren't any real graphic nude scenes - only shots of boys in their underwear or with their shirts off.  Really, one good butt shot of one of these hotties would have been appropriate considering the genre and the intended audience.  Who was too shy?

This has got to be one of my favorite movies of all time. If you LIKE to watch young men in underwear, check it out!!

I read this review and ran to get the DVD. Maybe I'm the wrong type of gay, but I think your stress on the erotic was a bit exaggerated.
One advantage for the guys, though, is that bear-chested hunks can appear in any "G"-rated movie.
So, a bit disappointing on the sexual tension, but very high on laughs. They way they cover their eyes from the light in the final scene... A wonderful movie for those late night binges.

Hmm...let me see.  Ok..a rich, gay Bev Hills guy who has underwear fetish and his circle of tricks decided to make this movie for Halloween last year.  Then he got this B-movie guy to direct it.  Bad, very bad.  You gotta see the Director's reel films that's part of the DVD.  Those movies are so baaaad, it makes Ed Wood's works turn pale.  Just watch all the Bonus Parts of the DVD and it will give you a much better laugh.  I suggested this movie to my gay friends and they sent me hate emails! LOL

it was an awful movie...but damn!
those guys were hot and the whole gay thing?
mmmm...major turn on
my only real complaint?
why couldn't the  voodoo wine
have made them all horny and touchy feely
with each other?

OK. It wasn't the best film ever, but who can really pass up a chance to see that god Huntley Ritter scantly clad in an all boy's school? Not me. If you like the boy in Bring It On, you've got another thing coming when you see this one.

Riley Smith (Star of Voodoo Academy) also has a small walk-on role in Bring It On,
Also- check out The Brotherhood also by David DeCoteau.

i watched this movie yesterday. o my......there were a lot of hott guys like Rusty but the movie was awful!! it was very....i can't really explain it cause my brain has been acting up cause of that movie. all i can really say is this movie must of had a low budget and a director that can pick the hottest guys on the world to come in this movie and get touchy and feely with themselves. the movie was kinda wierd in one sense. only 6 kids in the school?? come on be realalistic. the movie was pretty bad. maybe it's only cause i watched the VHS version of it. but it was totally bad except for RUSTY the HOTT guy!!!!!! and the other guys.

"Sounds like a cool basis for a movie doesn't it? Sure it does. I now remind you, that is not what this movie is about. This movie is about young men in whitie-tighties."

ROFL.. this is the funniest review of them all :)

Oh my god ya'll! I just saw this movie and I was rollin' on the floor. That whole undweare thing just killed me and the way the new guy, Christopher, was looking at them while they writhed in ecstasy was just too much.

Now about the homoerotica thing, well, when a priest in latex gloves goes rubbing up on some young stud, I'd say that's pretty homoerotic.

I rented this DVD thinking "cool another warlock movie".
"Voodoo Academy seems like a place were u would learn Voodoo but no i was way wrong. But when I watched it i almost s**t my self.  My jaw dropped these boys were rubbing themselves when they were half naked.  The effects, music, and filming was cheesy.  If i watch this movie again i just rewind through the rubbing part.  I would give it a 4.

No offense but i don't think your giving the movie enough credit.  I think the movie's director is quite a visionary, he's camera angles in a way sometimes remind me of Kubrick movie.  The VHS is BAD -- you can certainly tell that much of the scenes are cut down -- The DVD is much better -- showing full scenes and not just a montage of clips as the VHS did.  As for the movie being homoerotic -- I see what you mean -- but i think you simply are writing reviews to prove you a REAL MAN -- instead of writing reviews to tell about a movie -- if you didn't like the movie -- say why -- but don't give us a petty excuse that your straight and couldn't watch it -- I'm straight an enjoyed the movie -- i laughed through alot of it -- I have seen much worse things go on at male sleepovers -- don't tell me you don't know what I mean -- men (straight men) CAN handle this movie without getting grossed out.  Gay men -- it will be eye candy -- but i enjoyed the movie and think you focused to much on YOUR sexuality than the film.

Absolutely the best softcore gay porn to sneak in under the radar masquerading as a straight-to-video horror movie.
Major praise is due to the guys who were brave enough to finally come out - and I DO mean come out - to do this, from the director, the cast and crew, and the editor at Full Moon Entertainment who let the director's cut DVD be what it should be.

Straights can enjoy this as hilariously bad gross out filmmaking, but they'd be missing the point of this deliciously subversive video in which the cast seems to be having as much fun as the people who "get" this movie.  Even the movie's token female is used to good effect.

Outstandingly cheesy homoerotic camp thumbing its nose at the predictable conventions of horror/slasher movies - that's what this movie is all about.

Count me in for VOODOO ACADEMY II: THE NEW PRIEST.

Post by: Uh huh on November 25, 2006, 04:09:49 PM
You'd think some straight guys would be able to handle something very, VERY subtely homoerotic when compared to the out-and-out lesbianism of movies such as Hybrid and Vampyres.

There wasnt even a gay kiss in here for gosh sakes!

Oh well. I still enjoyed it for what it was.

I'm a gay man and I found this movie unbearably boring to watch.  The acting was terrible, the guys may have been cute and sexy but that is not enough.  Sometimes it is for me, but NOT HERE.  The movie is like a bad porno without the sex - only the boring scenes leading... nowhere.

Oh my god. this was the worst movie i've ever seen. it was like one of those 'hot singles' from Blockbuster... it bordered on softcore. i thought they were going to bust out on full guy-on-guy action in the bathroom scene. there were so many homo moments in this film, it was amazing. this is definitely a movie for gay guys and their hags who aren't confident enough to grab some real porn. i found myself laughing out loud about how cheesy the whole thing was. The dialogue, the set, the quality of the film. The master for the DVD must have been some old video casette.

Post by: I hate DeCoteau on November 25, 2006, 04:10:12 PM
This is another David DeCoteau's movie. Don't worry, this is really normal if you see alot (see, too much) of gay action scene in underwear. This Director is Gay and started his career in gay porn movie (yak!). Just look on imdb for fun and watch his rating on his movies. They are all bads. His only "good rated" movie, its a gay drama about gay (specify that is  funnier) popular in gay communauty. So, try to find his other movies, this is hilarous to see how a bad gay, disgust director can make bad movies after bad after bad....
Good Luck!

I liked this movie; no it is not a great movie, but that is because DeCoute admits to rewriting parts of the script as the movie was being filmed. He also stated it had to be done in a week's time so many special effect were left out.  And if I can sit through 90 minutes of some lame girl running from an oversided demented whatsit; you str8 boys just need to let you girls enjoy themselves with this movie.

I think the grinding scenes are hot, especially if you change the sound options.

Just saw this three days ago...my daughter rented it along with Pink Flamingoes and Xanadu...(She had to see Xanadu to see why I ranted about it so much it on this site.) Movies like Voodoo Acadamy are the inevitable down side of the straight-to-video boon. Like FM radio, and MTV, once the mainstreams sees a profit they jump in with both feet and turn everything to s**t. The straight-to-video was a place for the wannabes and the uninviteds. The clinkers were unintentionally bad. Half baked ideas, half baked budgets, highly creative, if not actually talented, writers, directors and actors. Just like the good old days of Roger Corman Bs and the old s**t factories like Monogram and American International. Its obvious by the production values of this film that pros were in on it. There was something of a budget here. These actors were working for money...Jack Nicholson and Bruce Dern used to work for Corman for free food and to hopefully steal some of the wardrobe after the shoot. The point I'm making is that these sort of straight-to-video movies are just like any other commercially fueled production line pieces of s**t. Like TV sitcoms and Brittany Spears...Phoney! Corman hustled studios and indepentant backers to get his films made. Shooting was done on the fly. Every scene dripped with a feeling of desparation. Voodoo Acadamy, like run-of-the-mill television programming, just lays there and moans in the background noise. Forget this piece of crap...go rent an Andy Sidaris straigt-to-video...or Sam Raimis earlier efforts. These guys were working in the true spirit of the Bs...

I first saw this movie in the VHS version and was majorly disappointed.  But when I found out that there was an unedited DVD version, I ran out to get a player; this time I wasn't disappointed!  Sure, it's your standard low-budget horror flick but with a crucial difference: here, the guys are the objects of sexual attention/desire on the part of other characters (and, presumably, the viewer).  Viewed in this light, it's a raucous good time, and any "straight" boy who feels uncomfortable watching this movie has more to worry about than a few absurd plot twists . . .

I love it!  This movie is soooo campy and I'm sure that when these actors saw the script they probably wondered whatever possessed them to think of doing what probably looked like a big fat turkey on paper when they read the script, but you have to understand that they "knew" that the movie would be bad unless they over acted with monotone voices in such characters as the Wanna-Be Ron Hubbard in the form of the Reverand Carmichel.  The Reverands side-kick plays three characters in the film:  The virginal head of the college, the whore of the college, and a female Satan, and in each character she succeeds because she looks different when playing each character.  This is also Gay-Camp.  Good example is when Christopher is introduced to Billy and Billy says [seductively] Hi! Crisco and then Christopher corrects him and Billy says "I was just trying to get under your skin!"  Then at the dinner table Billy in a Gay type of character says "Soooo, we're gonna get trashed!"  And later when he tries to take Christophers wine, Mrs. B. slaps his hand and the slap shows that what they're doing is making fun of the whole project but at the same time making fun of themselves.  So, why does Mrs. B. try to seduce the young men?  To find out if they're virginal and they figure who would be better for their experiment than young Gay-Virginal-Guys!  She proves their Virgins and it's off to the Wonderful Wizard of Voo-Doo Dolls in the attic!  There's just too much going on in this film to give a good description of it because it's really meant for the Gay Crowd who would find it a hoot!  I know I did!  Pure Entertainment at its best!

I thought the touching scenes were "okay" I like the one by Drew Fuller the best. He's the only guy I know who can do that and somehow still manage to look good. As for how bad the movie is I've seen worse. I doubt this is the best voodoo movie out there. But they did try there best. Drew Fuller did pretty good for this being his 1st movie. I wouldn't recommend seeing this unless you really like him (That's the only reason I saw it!)

The debate on blasphemy and the "No, I'm not going to calm down..." soundbytes have made me laugh for days, even in the middle of a work shift. I think my coworkers think I've really lost it this time.

I like watching young men in tighty-whities rubbing themselves, but then again, I am wired that way.  Frankly I am quite glad the boys are finally being exploited this way.  Do you KNOW how many boob fests I have had to sit through while most of the guys around me howled and cat-called and grinned stupidly?  I now welcome the chance to howl, cat-call and grin stupidly myself.  Boys and their jiggly bits are every bit as fun for me to watch as girls and their jiggly bits apparently are for you to watch.

Yaaay for equal opportunity jiggle-fests!

If I were a film maker, I'd be kind of like David DeCoteau, except instead of young men in whitie-tighties, it'd be women in pantyhose.
