Title: Ninja Wars
Post by: Nick on November 25, 2006, 04:09:49 PM
I remember watching this when I was four or five. Spewing devil monk...excellent. The only thing that has haunted me for the past 20 years is that fat maid's whaps. The blood, and gouged out eyes were fine ( better than the spew, but those!? Found a tape of it in a second hand shop in Dover..it was the exact same copy that my dad hired from Harlequin Video....Smoked a J, sat back, and went straight back to the early 80's.

I saw this movie on cable a little while ago, and I fell in love with it.  It has some of the best special effects, I've got to buy it.

This is the kind of film best caught on late night cable.  I saw it some weeks ago with the sound turned off and it's still creeping me out.  They lit it beautifully; some films are lit for romance, some are lit for drama but this one, God knows how, was lit to look evil.  The nonsensicality of the plot only adds to the surreal dream/nightmare quality.  Next time it comes on TV, I think I'll tape it.

Ninja Wars, 1982...I knew it was familiar, especially with Sonny Chiba in it!  Hey, did you guys know that none other than JACKIE CHAN has a cameo appearance in this movie?  Definitely an "easter egg" to find the next time you watch it, eh?

I don't know where Jackie comes in.  I only know that he's in there somewhere.

This film is incontrovertible proof that hallucinogenic drugs are available in Japan!

This is an okay movie, But if you want some REALLY good ninja (or samurai) warfare, watch "Legend of the Eight Samurai".

This movie is badass. It was this site that had driven me to see this. Some Wal-Mart stores sell a box set of 9 Ninja Movies, this was also in there.

If you liked Jacki Chan's "To Kill With Intrigue" you will love this movie.

I am proud to say that I saw this IN THE THEATRE.  I was stationed at Keesler AFB in Missippi in '83 where they used to show us any kind of ninja movie they could smuggle in from the Orient.  Back then, these were some of the best special effects I had ever seen.  I am still puzzled and amazed by the  powers of these warriors.  One of my favorites is when the little girl runs through a bamboo forest waving her hand about her head, then stops and turns around to see all the trees collapse in a giant cascade.  Very sweet.  Your jaw will drop, I promise.  I've seen a lot of ninja movies and this remains my favorite yet.

Nice board!

The dubbed version of this movie was funny kashin koji sounded like ross perot
lord danjo sounded like a football player at some points going "what is it!" and "your name!". Jotaro sounded too happy to be angry. Ukyo and karagarbi sounded like idiots. The monks sounded very bad. I recommend buying the subtitled version of this its a little longer than the dubbed version about 5 mins longer and has the real voices and is more dramatic and looks better than it is now its also in widescreen.

The original japanese version had a longer opening scene continuing after the shooting of the two guys on horse. A Narrator then begins commenting on how humans constantly kill each other and then introduces the character of Kashin Koji saying that he was a wizard and also that his origins are unknown but many books where written about him. This then leads to the start of the central story and was basically cut out of the american version which renders the opening scene senseless.

If it's the movie that I remember from '80s cable (THE BEST!), then this is the one where the cute chick is running through the bamboo forest cutting down bamboo trees with her ninja fingertips for fun, s**ts, and giggles; then later on in the movie she is captured by the enemy and when they tell her that she has to do something that she doesn't want to do, she cuts off her own head with her own fingertips. I also remember the big, oversized chick with the saggy udders toward the beginning of the movie being given an aphrodisiac and...ick...we are "blessed" with...ick...a RANDOM GRATUITOUS BREAST SHOT! a.k.a. BONER-KILLER! So this must be the same movie.

Even as a young kid just entering the 7th grade, I remember not being able to sit through this rather bad movie because...well, because it's bad. Even by kung fu or ninja movie standards, this movie was pretty bad.

Do yourself a favor, watch a Jackie Chan movie instead; even his bad kung fu movies were still pretty entertaining. Heck, instead of this, watch The Challenge (1982) with Scott Glenn starring; it almost qualifies as a samurai movie, not quite but almost.
