Title: The Midnight Hour
Post by: Paul Westbrook on October 29, 2001, 12:13:19 PM
Happy Halloween to all you bad movie fanatics out there! I thought I would be the opening comment for this film. I purchased this movie, at a mall, in Hamilton. It makes for the perfect late night viewing, especially, on Halloween night. You get to fell for the two lead characters, Phil, and Sandy, and when you find out that she is in fact, a ghost, and Phil is left alone at the end you feel sorry for him. Oh, well! As they say, love is strange. There are plenty of Vampires, zombies, ghouls, and whatever else to appease any die hard horror fan. So give Midnight Hour a chance. You may (or may not ) enjoy it.

I still remember when the show aired on TV. I wasn't to crazy about the film until sandy the cheerleader came on.
What ever happened to her in real life? She was really cute.
If you haven't seen the film its worth checking out. Just remember it was made for TV.

This little flick has some good points.

It never takes itself too seriously and isn't afraid to laugh at itself... an essential in any good "formula" horror film.  The dead cheerleader as romantic ghost thing actually plays quite well here. We really ARE on Sandy and Phil's side even though we know their romance can't last.

The thing about horror movies that occur on Halloween that makes them successful is the ATMOSPHERE!  Don't you feel it when you walk or drive around on Halloween?  It really IS a different kind of day and this film captures this spirit a little better than "Trick or Treat", but not as good as the orginal "Halloween".

I give this one three popcorn kernals out of five mainly because..

Shari Belafonte-Harper is HOT HOT HOT!

Dick Van Patten makes his role as a vampiric dentist
work on, well, so many levels.

ANYTIME you can see Kevin McCarthy in a horror flick,
makes sure you do it!  From "... Body Snatchers" to
this one to "Twilight Zone", he's the best.

The old cars are cool, and I used to have a carbon
copy of McCarthy's dark blue Chrysler New Yorker.

    Good late-night rental... three kernals!

Does anyone know the title of the song that is playing in the background during the wine cellar scene?  I know it's a real song cause I heard it on the radio last week, but I couldn't make out any of the words in the song, and they're weren't many to begin with anyway.  I hope someone knows who made that song cause it is great background music.  Thanks!

Huh, no posting from Chaplin yet.

Heh, I remember watching this movie on TV when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I thought it was the greatest movie ever then. I haven't seen it but for small bits since then, and it makes me laugh. Shows you how "Sophisticated" an 8 year old's tastes are.

Loved this movie when it came out 20 years ago (I was 13) and still love it today! It's a bit cheesy, but Lee Montgomery still looks HOT to me! Great makeup on the monsters, too! I recommend this to any horror film fan. It's not scary, but it's a lot of fun!

Halloween is just about over folks, and I hope everyone out there enjoyed the evening's festivities. I just got finished my annual viewing of MIDNIGHT HOUR, and that final scene where Phil is dejected after Sandy disappears still brought a small tear to my eye (it's the romantic in me) 4 years after I first bought this movie, and i still love it. Cant believe Levar Burton was such a lecherous perve in this film. lol Imagine Geordi Laforge.with raging hormones. lol I wonder what some of the principal actors are doing now? What the girl playing Sandi is doing these days? The should either make a sequel or even have a reunion of some of the cast. Nonetheless a great experience once again, so goodnight folks, Happy Halloween and if you meet a strange lonely girl who looks like a 50's teenager just remember she may not be a girl in costume. (boo)

I first saw part of this movie when it first came out in the late 80s', but I didn't get to see much of it beyond the raising of the dead sequence.  This Halloween, I got to see it with Chaplin who invited me to his home to watch it with him.  Although it is a cheesy horror flick, it does have a lot of scary and comic moments (I particularly enjoyed the scenes with Kevin McCarthy and Dick Van Patten).  Also, although no one seems to have noticed, Mitch is played by Peter DeLuise, the elder son of comedian Dom DeLuise, and who earlier had made a big splash on Vancouver-shot TV series 21 JUMP STREET, costarring a then unknown Johnny Depp.  Some unanswered questions, too, at the end: what happened to Phil's mom and bratty sister?  Also, what happened to all the people turned into zombies and vampires AFTER the spell was undone?  Did they go back to normal, as if nothing had ever happened, or did they disappear with the rest of the pack from the neitherworld?  And was that singing ghost actually supposed to be the Phantom of the Opera?  And also, if everything went back to normal at the end, what happend to the stuff stolen from the museum?  Oh well, I guess one can't know everything...
I should also point out that the Phil/Sandy storyline is based on a classic urban legend : The Disappearing Hitchiker.  You  know, the old story of a lonely driver picking up a lonely hitchiker, usually a young girl shivering as if from a cold, inspiring him to play the gentleman and offer her his coat, which she accepts.  He drives her to the address she gives him, only to find that she has disappeared without a trace when he arrives.  He then finds from the residents of the house that the girl in question had died many years ago in an accident near the spot he picked her up from.  Not believing it, he goes to the cemetery where the girl is buried, and sure enough, he finds on her tombstone his coat.  Except for the residents at the girl's former home (usually they turn out to be her parents, and in this version, the girl's home is torn down), this movie has all the classic elements of the legend, right down to the driver's coat on the girl's tombstone.  Boo!

I Love The Midnight Hour, because it is a excellent horror movie when you got Lee Montgomery as Phil Grenville and Peter DeLuise as Mitch Crandall in it, they are the most cute looking guys on the movie and this is the first movie I've saw with Peter DeLuise and he played the part as dumb jock, but I've found it very sexy.
Lee Montgomery in this movie was so cute when he had Sandy with him and it was so cute when their eyes met each other and Phil was the town hero and I think he also saved the town and the people too.

Peter DeLuise is my most favorite actor in real life, because he a wonderful and sexy actor and he played his part really good in this movie and Peter was also my favorite one on 21 JUMP STREET when Played the part as Doug Penhall.

I absolutely loved this movie the first time I saw it and I have been looking for it to show to my kids. My oldest may not appreciate it, however, I think it is perfect for my 8 year old and 5 year old.

The problem being, of course, it is so old that I can't find it anymore.

Anyway, I love the movie and it is not a bad movie.

Good morning fans. I usually dont write after Halloween at this post, but I wanted to thank those who have written (Thanks Lalyn) I had my annual viewing of Midnight Hour, and as I always do, I had a tear in my eye at the end. Too bad they dont do a follow up film, and have Sandy return years later, to either find out what's up with Phil, or have a new adventure of her own. If they do, then I will be there to see it. If not, then well we at least have our claasic MH to see each and every year, so from me to you all, Take care, and keep writing in to this post, and see you all next year!!!

This is my favorite movie on the face of the earth.  I watched it when it came on TV a long time ago.  Since then, I rented it about  a thousand times when you could rent it.  I am now 32 and it is still my favorite movie.  I don't understand why it is so hard to find, I even emailed Anchor Bay about releasing it on dvd.  It is not a bad movie at all.  It is a great movie and it will always be my favorite.  I wish they would show it every year at Halloween time like they do Charlie Brown--how come you can buy that at every gas station around-but they won't put this clean great movie out to buy?  It will be a custom at my house to watch it as much as I can.  I hope all the actors who played in the movie are OK, and I hope they know that this was not a cheesy movie but a great addition to anyone's movie collection.  Angie

Just bought this movie and watched it for the first time since 1987.  OMG - Love this movie.  It's kind've spooky for a made for tv movie I thought.  I love the eighties.  Everything always seemed more fun.  They need to make more movies like this for Halloween.  I was so excited to watch it although I could find no one to join me .  I still very much enjoyed and will watch it over and over again.  Lee Montgomery is soooo hot. I loved him in 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun'.  Or as Melissa writes during a game of hangman 'Ghouls Just Want To Have Fun'.

WOW, I can't believe it's been THAT long. My mom showed me this movie when it first aired on ABC in the 80's, something about Lucinda that frightened the hell out of me. Especially that scene with her and Shari Belafonte in the wine cellar and Lucinda talks about "quenching the thirst", that whole scene creeped me out when i was younger:P I'll never forget it. Even tho it was made for TV, I think it is still pretty cool and quirky:P I wouldn't mind watching it again, it's been about 20 years or so.

Stardate: 09/25/2010 - well Paul Westbrook so far this year it looks like just you and i posting. According to the passed logs last year it was just you who posted here about this great movie. There hasn't been much interest since 2006. 2007and2008 only had two postings each and then like i said just you in 2009.
Man, i truely hope no one got tired of this movie cause like i said it is a great movie! For many years i have been wanting to comment about The Midnight Hour Movie but never got around to it for some reason; i don't know? Tonight i thought i would after seeing the lack of interest in this movie since 2006. I am a huge fan of this movie - I LOVE IT! my favorite story in it is the Phil and Sandy love story. I watch it every Halloween to see them. I love stories of young love and i am a huge fan of the 1950s and 1960s so i like Sandy and her cute 1950s cheerleaders outfit Phils a lucky boy! TTFN but i will be back on Halloween to drop a line again and i hope then to see the old fans writing again or some new ones!   Bye!

Stardate: 01-25-2011 - Hello Paul and everyone else which are not many as i can see. Sorry i could'nt make it last halloween as i promised but my old (one of the 1st windows 98s perhaps a collecters item one day) computer crashed on me just before halloween and it was just recently one of my sisters helped me get it up and running again. Mickey is a computer wiz i tell you man! my sister is chief engineer here at starbase 12 and i don't know what i'd do with out her.
Well as usual like Paul Westbrook i dug out my copy (I have it on dvd and believe it or not on vhs also) of The Midnight Hour on Halloween and like many many times before it was good to see Sandy and Phil save the Town Of Pitchford once again!

P.S.   There is only one thing I DO NOT LIKE about the movie and it is that Sandy at the end of the movie always has to go back to where she came from. Heaven i'm sure!   Hailing Frequencies Closed.

Stardate: 10-18-2012: Transmitting From Starbase 12 - Well, i'm the 1st one for the entire year again like last year and that really worries me because last year there was only me and one other where there have always been an average of 6 comments each year two of which would usually be Paul Westbrook's and Pauls' got me worried also because last yr for the 1st time ever he did not make an entry and he's been loyal to this site since 2004. The other with me last yr was a 1st timer called alandhopewell. I truely hope Paul is ok and makes an entry this year and that this site don't die out because one more thing worries me and it's big! i red the comments back to the beginning and no one comes back. The comments every year are always  of new people no one from before.   I will be back every year as long as this site exists because i love this movie very much. For me when i watch this film it is nice to imagine there was still a simpler time with adventure and romance in this country in 1985 like it existed in the 1960s on back (which was really untrue in 85 just like today). So once again it is time for me to pull out my copy of " The Midnight Hour " and see the small town atmosphere and mostly see two teen kids Sandy and Phil save their small new england town of pitchford from the undead and most of all watch these two teenagers fall in love in the process.   Will be back again on Halloween and i hope to see more fan comments this Halloween year and old loyal Paul W.   Hailling Frequencies Closed For Now.

I haven't seen it this year; again, I only saw it in '86, but I'd love to find it, and make it a Halloweeen tradition at my house.

Someone pointed out the connection between Sandy and the vanishing hitch-hiker legend- I loved that aspect of the film, as this is my all-time favorire ghost story.

I have halloween off this year and i'm not doing a hole lot today i'll just be doing a couple of things in town wearing my starfleet uniform of course cause it's halloween the only time i get to wear it. Then i will take it easy here at the starbase the rest of the day til i go to my sister's house (Ensign Claire Gathings) this evening to help her pass out candy then the rest of the night til perhaps morning we are going to watch scarey movies on tv beginning of course with the movie The Midnight Hour my favorate halloween movie. My sister claire will be seeing it for the first time. I hope she likes it as much as i! Well thats about it except i would like to say to Alandhopewell thanks for comming back again with your comment about this terrific movie The Midnight Hour and i very much enjoyed your Music Laurie Video Clip. Your clip makes me think of a early 1960s one hit wonder rock song i like very much titled " Last Kiss" by J. Frank Wilson And The Cavaliers. In the song J. Frank is singing about a teenage couple while out on a date have the misfortune of having an automobile accident and the boy wakes up from being unconscious after accident and runs over to the girl and she dies in the boy's arms after their last kiss. Very sad song! Again, Happy Halloween Every One!!!   Hailling Frequencies Closed!

Now, i'm not going to talk about it because many people in this life have serious problems not just i and we all have to deal with them! all i am going to say is that my life and world went seriously down the toilet to where once along the way i thought seriously about suicide. Now, DO NOT WORRY for that thought was a year ago and i am still hanging in there and my life should be back on track next september.     Well enough of this depressing talk for it is Halloween!!!!!!
so lets all enjoy the day and once again of course enjoy watching Sandy And Phil save Pitchford from all the diferent kinds of monsters and fall in love with each other in the process.   Happy Halloween Every One And Hailing Frequencies Closed!!
