Title: The Last Dragon

I saw this film years ago and have raved about it ever since. I finally got it on video! Quote-"You're nothing but a misguided midget ass-hole with dreams of ruling the world!" Genius or what!? Remember the little guy getting tied up then body popping to freedom.

This movie is great. I especially enjoyed the last fighting scene between Leroy and ShoŽnuff, it was so cool. This movie is definetely worth a look.

I saw this movie on tbs the other night.  It kicked booty.  I found it highly amusing and you have to love the absolutely horrid music of that wanna be popstar.

I love the Last Dragon! Taimak is so gorgeous, Vanity was gorgeous.  The movie was very entertaining, I just couldn't stop watching it. And the little brother Richie was so hilarious.  Really good movie to sit back and just reminesce about the 80's. You gotta love it.

I saw this movie on tv in highschool and I never forgot about the movie.  I bought the vhs 10 years later and it still made me excited.  Taimak has a quality about him that makes you wanna be a good person.  It made me bust up so hard when he was eating pop corn with his chop sticks!  If it wasnt for taimak this movie would have been a flop.  Taimak if youre reading this make the last dragon part 2!!!!

Okay.  I just had to say this.  My roommate and I are both huge fans of this site and madly agree with the stuff that comes out of your mouth.  I showed my roommate this movie just one week before you posted it on your site.  We are ecstatic that you agree with us about its hideous horrible greatness.

...I guess I should have just emailed this to you, instead of making it a comment.  Oh well.  Watch this movie people!

I usually only write comments on horror movies but I saw this on here and had to write. I've seen this movie a hundred times and I know I'll watch it a hundred more. This is one of the most entertaining movies ever made. Everytime it comes on tv I feel compelled to watch even though I have it in my movie collection.  The main characters are Bruce Leroy and Sho'nuff. That's all you need to know. Fun eighties stuff.  They don't make 'em like that anymore.

What's up! I was researching my favorite person, Taimak, on Googles and came across www.badmovies.org.  I guess this is in the RUN-DMC way of bad, you know "not bad meaning bad, but bad meaning good!" I was like, "I know they ain't dissing The Last Dragon," but as I read the reviews... I am pleased to post about my all time favorite movies.
I most definitely relate to Cinemaster... I feel this movie so much that I have the VHS and two DVDs, plus the soundtrack on CD... I have it on audio cassette too, from back in the days.
I know how a Trekkie must feel now... to be a fan of a visual art piece, like Star Trek. They have Trekkie functions and what have you. The Last Dragon is not on that level, but since finding www.taimak.net, it has been a outlet for me to post my love for the movie and my deepest respect for Taimak.

Peace, T!

P.S.- Anyone interested in the Last Dragon soundtrack can buy off of www.amazon.com (that's where I copped my CD copy from), or maybe check the big chain music stores like: Tower Records, Sam Goody's and Coconuts (chances are you can order it from them, if they don't have any copies in stock)

OH YEAH! Taimak has the sequel to the Last Dragon in the works, the name is "The Dragon Awakes," so look out for it in the near future... Respect to ya cool peeps!

I love this movie, but for only one reason:  Sho'nuff.  Bruce Campbell's partner from Brisco County, Jr. (and who can forget that show, huh?) and his funkiness.

"Am I the prettiest?"
"Sho'nuff!"
"Am I the baddest?"
"Sho'nuff!"

Oh yeah.

The best thing to come out of Motown (Barry Gordy produced this) since Marvin Gaye.  Not saving Private Ryan serious, but very entertaining, in an eighties kind of way.  It's worth seing for the fashions and hair, if nothing else; like a video time capsule.

I must have seen this movie 30 times and loved it every time.  Little did I know 15 years later I would meet the cousin of Ernie Reyes (the little kid that kicks everyone's ass).  My life is fulfilled, I only wish I could sleep.  This damn glow keeping me awake

I have the movie (VHS, Laserdisc & DVD), I have the soundtrack (Album-Remember those? & CD... Can ya tell I love this funky lil' movie?
I saw this movie many times..., I was homeless then.., & I couldn't get enough of "Star", Upset Stomach", "Seventh Heaven" & my personal favorite, "Fire". I kinda even  liked "First Time On A Ferris Wheel"..., I get misty eyed over stuff I would have killed to get back then, clothes, hair styles, tennis shoes, music..., i'm now looking at it going "EWWWWW"!!!!! Thank GOD I didn't get ANY of that stuff! But it's nice to watch people who looked good in that stuff!!!

This movie is one of my favorite movies of all time, right up there with Buckaroo Banzai, Big Trouble in Little China and I don't know what else (Scorpion King?).  Yes its cheesy, yes its a bad movie, but it is so much fun.  And the music brings a tear to my eye.  I envy the guy who has the sound track.  Must find sound track, then I, too, will have The Glow.

I've been involved in the martial arts for over 20 years. I saw this movie when it first came out and became an immediate fan. It's not realistic, but it's a great movie! Where else can you see an action, martial arts, romance, fantasy, comedy all rolled into to one and done so well?  A black protagonist that thinks he's Chinese, three Chinese that are trying to be black, a two-bit arcade operator that wants to be a mob-boss video producer, a really wierd (and funny) kung-fu mobster, etc., etc., etc.
I've owned it on VHS for some time. Thanks to it's continued popularity I have now been able to obtain it on DVD. Long live Bruce Leroy and THE GLOW!

OMG.  I am so gld there are so many people out there agree that The Last Dragon was a kick ass movie.  I saw the movie in 1988 when I was just 7 years old.  It left indellible marks on me.  I just saw it on tv about a month ago, and now I cant get the catchy tunes or Taimak and Vanity's faces out of my mind!

Taimak, wherever you are, keep doing movies, and Please, pretty PLEASE get to work on a sequel to the last dragon...It's almost 20 years overdue.

And as far as that website, taimak.net goes, I've been having lots of trouble getting on there.  Does it even still exist?

About a week ago (just before Thanksgiving 2003) I visited New York City for the first time in my adult life.  One night, I went to watch a play w/ my friends, and it was the funniest play I'd ever seen.  And if that weren't enough the lead was played by Taimak (aka Bruce Leroy).  That brought back some nice memories from the 80s.  ;-)

I had to post this...he mentions in his review that "some unknown actor who would look more comfortable with a hard hat on his head and a shovel in hand" initially implores Laura to play Arkadian's stuff.  That unknown is actually William H. Macy (boogie nights, fargo, mystery men, etc.).

I watched the Last Dragon in Japan when I was serving in the Navy. 1986

Now in 2004, I rented it AGAIN to have my 8 year young son watch it and experience the GOODNESS that rolls off the screen as you watch this film.

AWESOME, ENTERTAINING, Everyone from cast to crew, A to Z cared about the audience and it showed while you watched this film.

Please do the Dragon Awakes.

This movie makes you love the 80's just that much more! It's most definately a classic and one of my all time favorites. Taimak was beautiful and Vanity gorgeous(even though she dated Prince), Sho-Nuff was awesome even though he was the bad guy(doesn't he remind you of Bustah Rhymes?)....and oh yeah--everybody kicked butt!!

I am totally smitten with TaiMak aka Bruce Leroy. I have to many favorite parts in that movie. To name a few I enjoyed when Taimak asked Vanity to show him some MOVES. Or when Sho nuff destroyed Daddy Green's Pizzeria. The tears in Taimak's eyes when his brother called him a coward. He was so convincing. Taimak I would love to see more of you in movies/tv. Maybe one day we will bump heads. My sister works for a Fashion Co. in NewYork that would love to work with you.        Smiling At You,   *CheeChee*

I've always loved this movie but it was so hard to buy or rent until it was released on DVD and I bought my own copy a few months ago. This is just a fun movie, Sho'nuff is hillarious, Leroy and Laura are both gorgeous and I could watch it every day if I had the time. One of my favorite scenes is when Leroy is in Laura's apartment and he runs away when she comes onto him. I laugh every time I see it. Great review.

Hey! Just have to say this is one of the best movies ever! Perfect blend of cheese, humor, action, romance and 80's craptastic clothing. Sweet manna from heaven this movie is moist with perfection.
Also watch it again just to see the one and only Chazz Palminteri get his ass beat by Leroy (when trying to abduct Laura for the first time). He's the one sporting the porn mustache.
Sho'Nuff is like Bootsie Collins on steroids! I really like his plastic vertical blind sunglasses. Just seeing those made me want to get parachute pants and go through puberty all over again.
If you don't watch this movie you will get a horrible rash on your nibblets!

Yeah this movie is Off the Richter! Taimak was Great! and Vanity and her seducing and Beautiful Smile! But Sho' Nuff made the movie Flow like a Breeze! His off the hinges type of character and his demeaning one liners were hilarious! I do hope that they follow through one the sequel, but I just hope it is better than some of the rumored scripts that I've heard! It would totally do an injusice to the Classic Original! Does anyone know that if Taimak was trained by Van Clief???? He fought Royce Gracie the UFC legend in like UFC III! Anyhow Big Shout out to Taimak! Martial Arts are more sophicated than Jessica Alba!!!! Lmao!

Taimak, Hollywood doesn't care how many signatures you get for this sequel. At the end it's all about the benjamin's..
It's been 25 years. If Hollywood was interested it wouldn't have taken that long.  They have other interests like Von Damm and Jet-li to name a few.  That bubble garbage would be a flop at the box office. Stop using Bruce Leroy's name to get in the door. Your a 40 year old man living in the past.

Loved the movie; I've watched it 3 times and I still like it. The scary thing about Angie's video is that even though it's laughable in today's standards, I'm willing to bet that in the 80's that video could actually be brodcasted if it really existed. I have the dvd and I watch it sooooo much. I can't get enough of it. I love every part of the movie and I love the way bruce leeroy looks when he is glowing. Taimak is the best. I hope and pray that a sequel is in preparation for the future.

There's quite a few bit players in this (as others have mentioned) so lets put them all together and play "Find Semi-famous Waldo":

William H. Macy (Jerry Lundegaard in "Fargo", Quiz Kid Donnie Smith in "Magnolia", The Shoveller in "Mystery Men"
George Parker in "Pleasantville", Little Bill in "Boogie Nights") was trying to get Laura to play Angie's video.

Anthony Payne II (Cockroach on "The Cosby Show", Cole on the sitcom "Martin") is in the pizzeria scene as one of the kids in a gold jacket running away from the bad guys...

Ernie Reyes, Jr. (Manito in "The Rundown",  Johnny in "Surf Ninjas" & Zing in "Rush Hour 2") plays Tai.

Keshia Knight Pulliam (Rudy on the Cosby Show) plays Sophie.
Chazz Palminteri (Primo Sidone in "Analyze This", Mr. Zadir: Roxbury owner in "A Night at the Roxbury", Elleroy Coolidge in "Mulholland Falls" )has a 70's mustache and gets his ass beat by Leroy in the first attempt on Laura.

Mike Starr (Joe 'Mental' Mentaliano in "Dumb And Dumber": the bad guy who Harry and Lloyd kill with antacid) plays Rock.

And; a possible Wesley Snipes in the Debarge music video, "Rhythm Of The Night", wearing a red headband and dancing all eighties-like? (He was in a Michael Jackson video after all.)

Youtube has brought the magic home for those of us w/o the dvd or vhs, if there is a sequel you cant mess it up by taking it to serious and it doesnt have to all be over the top parody either a good middle ground and most definitely fun. Notice how much vulgarity there was but Taimak balanced it out, you gotta reach for that.

This is by far my most sought after film that couldn't even be topped by my childhood favorite "Goonies". The Last Dragon has all the qualities that made up my personality and my desires of that time in my life. I ordered the DVD last year and I couldn't wait for it to show up so I ended up renting it a day before it came in the mail  No regrets. That movie is Freaking Awesome! Entertainment! Entertainment! Taimak made me want to be a better person & my life has been forever shaped by the character Bruce Lee Roy. I'm not so sure a Last Dragon could surpass the or even match the impact that the original Last Dragon has made to everyones childhood. If you're gonna try, please give it a different name as to not tarnish the title "The Last Dragon".

This is the movie that really inspired me to work on the jump spinning kick.  I eventually got so good at it that for demonstrations I would do board breaks with it.  Blindfolded.

Thanks for the inspiration!!

I was at a showing of "The Last Dragon" about two years ago in Queens NY and Taimak was there to answer questions. Nice guy and of course he addressed the issue of "The Last Dragon 2." Mainly everyone wanted to do it but there were some complex licensing issues to work out. Guess it didn't happen  :bluesad:

This was probably the first movie to give me a genuine 'mulitcultural' experience.

As a child I was too young to understand that significance. As an adult this would likely make me groan for its 80s camp.

Truth be told, I'm not going to rave about how essential this movie is, becuase if you're going to have people glowing, you might as well have them shooting fireballs and fighting ghosts.

A former co worker suggested that I watch this film, since it's just corny all the way.  I watched it during my leave of absence from work, and loved the film.  It's one of those films that it's corny, but you just love it.

Perhaps you should read my review, then decide if I "get it" or not.

Julius Carry (http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0141114/)  He passed away on 19 August 2008 at the age of 56.

Busta Rhymes would have been about 13 when this was made.

The IMDb (http://www.imdb.com) is an online database that lists just about everything you could ever want to know about movies.  Lots of the information is user-submitted, so it can have omissions for older films or even incorrect data, but it's still a fantastic site.

When I was in the Navy in the mid 80's, I took Goju Karate under Charles Dixon, the 9th degree master who trained "Bruce LeRoy" in the martial arts.  A bunch of us black belts would watch this movie together over at Dixon's house and mimic the moves.  Good times, good times!

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this, but lookout for Chaz Palminteri as the evil limo driver  "I'm just doing the right thing, and you're gonna do the right thing too!" who spirits Vanity away to a meeting with Eddie..

Pretty darn entertaining. Impossible to not make a "Soul Glow" wisecrack when you watch it.
